My first impression was a very nice softly spoken doctor. I'll now add very competent, and informative.

Office staff is extremely helpful, and willing to work with you on problems

The aftercare is structured as part of the New Start Program - including support meetings you can attend 2 times a week.

He does address the risks, and requires you to attend a seminar put on by his group explaining ALL risks, and the exact surgery they will perform.

I would rate him very high. He has been doing this surgery for a long time, and I felt very comfortable having him muck about in my insides.

He is looks younger than he really is, but he really knows what he is doing. I was kinda of scared about his since he is forigen but I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. This man really knows his stuff. The office staff is very friendly, but Ida is a basketcase. It took her forver to get my paperwork to the insurance company. I finally had to have her fax it to me and then I faxed it to medical managment. Don't get me wrong is really nice and keeps that office moving, she is just overworked and probably underpaid!
Beware....Fabito is never ever on time!!
I think that is because he takes his time with each patient. Its not so bad because the people in the waiting room share their experiances, plus the way I look at is like this...when I was having surgery I certainly didn't want him to rush thru my operation, so I wouldn't want him to do that to anyone else either.

I was very confident in Dr. Fabito. He has done over 1,800 of these surgeries since 1974 (I think those were the numbers). He is very nice. His staff is wonderful. Ruthie, the Pulmonary Therapist is so nice and funny. She also had the surgery so knows what it is like. Ida is also very nice. The hospital staff was great.

I haven't met Dr. Fabito yet. I am still in the insurance approval process. I have heard great things about him. A coworker had gastric stapling by him 24 yrs ago so I know he's been doing this a long time.

I began my journey with Dr. Mitchell in late October of 2001, had my first consult with him in November and was scheduled for surgery February 19th. Four days before surgery, I received a call from his office, telling me that he had cancelled all his gastric surgeries for a 2 week period because of a "family emergency" and that I could have a date in mid-April or later!!! After much back & forth discussion, I impressed upon him that I was desperate to have this done as soon as possible, so they scheduled me for March 11th. Then, on March 1, they called and asked if I would wait on stand-by for Tuesday, March 5th. They thought they'd have an opening. I agreed and late on Monday, March 4th they called to say that they would definitely do my surgery the next morning. On 3/5, I had been in the hospital for an hour, doing paperwork and being prepped when the nurse walked in to tell me that the doctor had cancelled all his surgeries that day "because of an emergency". I was devastated, needless to say! But, I got home later that morning and talked with his office who said that they would just have to put me back on the March 11th date. OK, I could live with that. BUT, at the end of the day, I got an urgent call from New Start (the program that covers wls surgery in 2 hospitals) to say that Dr. Mitchell had cancelled ALL his gastric surgeries for the forseeable future and probably would not ever be doing them again. SOOOOOOO, I had to quickly find a new doctor, new hospital and everything. Bless their hearts, New Start was able to get me in on Dr. Fabito's schedule for next week, so I will meet him 3/11, have a gall bladder ultrasound and repeat all my pre-op blood work & urinalysis on 3/13 and he'll do my surgery 3/15. Don't know how Dr. Mitchell can do this to his patients!!! But I am glad that I have switched to another doctor!

He is very nice and knowledgeable. Ida, his assistant, is very nice. He has been doing the surgery for a while. He sees a lot of patients.

Very thorough. He covered all the bases. I was impressed and felt that if anyone could get me thruogh this he could. I still have the same respect, if not more for him. Ida is the best. I wishall of my Dr.s had one of her. I wish he wasn't so busy, but then he wouldn't be able to help as many as he does. Listen to hin. He knows and will take care of you. There is no choice! You have to have it. He covered all on the possible problems. I had complications so I was confidant that he would do what needed to be done and it was. He got me through it. I wish that I had as much confidance in all of my other Dr.s that I have in him. The condition that I was in, bedside didn't matter. I just wanted to survive it. I have yet to meet a Dr. that I have more respect for. I have no problem with bedside manner either. He gave me the attention that I needed and still does.

My first impression did not come until 1 week before the surgery, which was bothersome to me, but he was very informative at that time. The impression was always the same , this is a business doctors are in and out and unless you are prepared with questions, good luck getting information. He did hand out lititure with the risks and went through the anatomy changes, so I found that helpful. I have been a nurse for 10 years so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect, I am concerened about people that don't have medical backgrounds. My least favorite thing about him is that he is always late and rushed. His office staff is very helpful and knowledgable. Aftercare is very important I will see the Dr 1 week 1 month 3 months 6 months and 1 year post op, then yearly for 5 years and ever 5 years for life. The dietician has already called me at home twice and always makes herself available for questions. I would rate Dr Fabito an 8, he is an exceptional surgeron which is most important to me he just needs to slow down and take some one on one time with the patients.

Both the office staff & Dr. Fabito himself were quite friendly and informative. I found Dr. Fabito to have a very pleasant demeanor when discussing this surgery. He did not treat me like another way for him to pay his mortgage payment. Anytime I have any questions or problems, Ida (his Office Manager) or Dr. Fabito are more than happy to help me out. I owe my life and happiness to them.

Dr. Fabito was very honest about the risks involved in surgery.

And, as a side note, prepare to wait at least an hour or more to get in to see him. One good thing about this is that the waiting room can easily be compared to a support group meeting hall.

The only negative thing I can say is that he is two hours away from him. I don't believe this is his fault in any way. Just wish he would move closer to me. *hint...hint* : )
