My first impression of Dr. Fabito was that he seemed very knowledgable and also had a good sense of humor,(which goes along ways sometimes in easing a patients anxieties). That impression must have been right on, because he's one heck of a surgeon, and I've recommeded him to MANY people already! His office staff (especially Ida) are great people as well. They go out of their way to make you comfortable and welcome to ask any questions you have. Aftercare is a MAJOR issue with Dr. Fabito! He says that it's just as important as the surgery! At his seminars, (which you are required to attend), you get all the facts about the surgery, and some about the aftercare, and also about the risks. Overall I would give Dr. Fabito an "A"! I'm very proud to have had him as my surgeon! I would say that surgical competence and bedside manner are both great!Dr. Fabito could stand to do a little better with the bedside mannerthing, but that's only because he's so busy with surgeies and office hours that you hardly ever see him in your post-op care while in the hospital. But I guess that's what those nurses are there for, right?

I got my approval letter yesterday. I contacted Dr. Fabito's office to find out what is next, but the person I needed to talk to was not in today so I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I met Dr. Fabito. He answered all of my questions. He seems like a wonderful surgeon. The next time I see him, it will be the day of my surgery. I feel confident putting my life and future in his hands. He is very experienced and skilled.

I never had the opportunity to meet Dr. Gaskin because he has stopped doing WLS due to the cost of malpractice insurance.
I am now assigned to Dr.Fabito and he continues to do surgery, however, he is not reviewing any new charts. My wait has been going on for almmost 13 months now, and appears that it will be continuing to go on and on.

I finally got to meet Dr. Fabito and his nurse Ida. My first impression of him is that he a very knowledgable surgeon, but is quite frustrated by my insurance company. Perhaps the next time we meet, the circumstances will be different.
His nurse, Ida was very professional and nice and stayed with Dr. Fabito during my H&P. She was very patient and kind to me.

I met Dr Fabito on April 29th at the group consultation. I really feel better after meeting him. He was so gracious and informative. I was so impressed by his knowledge of this surgery. There was even a lady there from Texas who was told he was the best in this type of surgery. She was staying with her family in Springfield Missouri until after her surgery and was able to go back home. His assistant Ida was very sweet and kind of funny. She is so busy and overwhelmed though since Dr. Fabito is the only one doing this surgery now through the New Start program. What I liked the most is how he explained how he does the surgery compared to other surgeons. He puts 8 layers of staples in and also sutors to make sure of no leakage, so there's no need for leakage tests after the surgery. Also he puts you in intensive care for the first 24 hours and the reason for this is he wants his patience to have the one on one care because of the type of surgery. He said that way if we need pain medicine we can get it stat. If he would put us back on the floor, there is like 1 nurse to every 10 patience and we could be waiting a week for the pain medicine. He's really funny too when he explains. He makes you feel so very comfortable and now alone. I know God has blessed him. He really cares about helping us. And I know it's not just for the money. I have my surgery on May 19th. Not skeptical at all anymore. I know he will take good care of me. ---Terry Loskot, Donnellson, IL

9/15/02....I met Dr. Fabito for the first time today and I love him...he was so funny. I spent more time laughing than anything. He showed us a slide show with a general history of wls, possible complications, and we found out that he has been performing wls since 1976 and has done about 2000 with only 7 deaths. That is WAY better than the national average. He even slipped in a few slides from his trip to the Philippines...some young Philippino ladies dancing (nothing inappropriate) and we all roared. I told him that I selected him based on the info from AMOS and that everyone had good things to say about him. He commented 'except that I am hard to understand'...I had no problem. I was nervous about the surgery until I met him. The note at the bottom of this page says that "100% positive reviews are less informative or even suspect".... So I will tell you that Dr. Fabito was late getting to the meeting....so now my info is no longer 'suspect'. 10/27/02....Well I am 12 days post op and doing fine...I would recommend Dr. Fabito highly. He is very thorough and pays close attention to details. He is very busy so expect to wait when you have a check-up appointment.
4/22/03...Im just over 6 month post-op. They make you wait forever in the waiting room...like 2+ hrs to get a check-up then you only see the dr for 3 or4 min. Luckily I havent had any real probs...he knows that so he doesnt seems to want to spend more than a couple min in the room with me. I found that a bit annoying...but I still believe that he is a wonderful surgeon.

I finally met Dr. Fabito. He met with 3 of us at once, and he answered all our questions. He did a drawing of what he was going to do and explaned what goes wrong sometimes. One lady who was there was getting her's fixed, that another surgeon had done and the staples had come loose. Dr. Fabito uses a stronger and better method of stapeling. He fixes a lot of other Dr's messes. I am glad I have him for a Surgeon.

I was afraid about the mortality rate, but his is only 0.17% and he said that the reason the surgery is so high risk is because the patients are high risk. That the ones who wait until they are in bad health before getting the surgery give the surgery a high risk status. I am still in good health so my risk are the same as any major surgery would be.

He is a very busy man, we had to wait.. But I told Ida that most of us had waited over a year (almost 2) fighting our insurance so what was an hour or so waiting on the Dr..

His office is very busy, but they will get you what you need if you keep after them.

He is not extreem in after care, Your office visits are not extensive. But he does want to keep an eye on you after. He seems to like helping people, and he is a Dr. who really does this surgery and fixes past surgerys to help people in need.

A lot of Dr's are getting run out of WLS because the malpractice insurance is so high. We had better hope he can afford to keep helping people.

Well I had my surgery a week ago, and I have no complants. He has a good bedside manner, and he was conserned that my pain meds were not right and got them lined out. He made rounds every day and one day he was there twice. I think he did a wonderful job and I am looking forward to being a normal human ..

I thought he was very nice and definitely funny. He thourghly explains everyhting. His staff (IDA) is very helpful and she is truly a sweety. What I liked least is that he was late to the meeting about 30 minutes. Just know that he is also the best in his field and that you might want to get him as soon as possible, I think next year will be his last in regards to doing this type of surgery. He didn't talk too much about aftercare except that if you have any problems you should contact his office. The New Start programs offers support groups and he made sure that everyone understood the risks of this surgery. So far I would have to rate him a 9+. I think bedside manner and surgical competence is great, but if I had to choose one it would be competence.

I love him!
Just got better!
The staff is absolutely wonderful!
Everything seems normal to him but he does listen to you.
The only negative thing I have and its not necessarily him as a doc just not a good follow up program to make sure you stay on track. As far as a surgeon I love him and Ida to death! I would recommend them to anyone.

Dr. Fabito was great but very busy.
Ida is sweet and so is Ruthie. She also has had the operation and she was always coming by to see me in my room telling me to get up and walk. She also told me about the secret shower which was great. I was not impressed by the nurses on that floor.
If you want Dr. Fabito to do this surgery you had better hurry because he to may be following the other Doctors out soon.
Dr. Fabito explained during his consultation how some of his patients did not do well and why and what he has done to change the outcome of those problems.
I would rate him a 8 and not a 10 only because he is so busy at this time and does not have time to spend one on one with you. He is doing up to three gastric surgeries a day and trying to see his patients that are in the hospital and consultations and he does other surgerys to.

Went to a group seminar where I met Dr. Fabito and liked him immediately. My daughter attended the seminar also and she even liked him. He is a very personable doctor and can cut jokes and talk to you where you don't think he's way above you like most doctor's do. I felt he is really concerned about obese people and tries to help you.

My impression of him has not changed. You can take all the time you need to talk to him and ask any question you may have. You don't feel as if he's trying to get rid of you to go on with things and other patients.

The only problems I had was with his Dietician who was at the time out on maternity leave and was at home. Didn't call me the first week I was home after surgery.

I feel surgical competence and bedside manners are both very important. I don't want a doctor that just comes in and does the surgery and then just forgets about you and leaves you in the hands of his staff. He is thoroughly involved with his patients and is a caring person. I would have no problem with recommending him to others.
