I had my consult on May 20. Dr. Overcash made me feel so comfortable right from the very beginning. He was VERY thorough in explaining all aspects of the surgery and post op. I'm getting everything together to submit to the insurance company. May take 4-6 weeks for approval. Trying to wait patiently.

Well, I went to my consultation with Dr. Overcash. It was quite a wait in the waiting room but he was extremely busy. I didn't mind waiting. Dr. Overcash was everything that everyone said. A very nice person , but right to the point which is nice sometimes.
He answer all my questions. The only ones he didn't answer were the ones I didn't ask. I forgot my list of questions, so it was my fault. The office staff was also great. I am so happy with my choice. I'm on my way ...
Dr. Overcash is direct and to the point. He tells you the positive and the negative about the surgery. He even talked to my husband about the surgery- he wants to make sure that you have a good support system. His office staff is VERY helpful!!! I feel that I am ready for surgery and I am comfortable with Dr. Overcash being my surgeon..
On 4/25/02 I met with Dr. Overcash. His is very busy man. His office was packed and it was a wait but I didn't care. I love that he brings you back to the room himself. Although that keeps his waiting room very packed. His got strait to the point and said something like if you have come this far you have prolly already deceided to do surgery for sure. Damn skippy I am sure : ) He was very informal and I liked that. Cocky in a good way, makes you feel confident in his abiblites as a surgeon. So far so good.
I arrived at his office and he was running behind, but it was great because I think I got to meet like 20 other people who had either had the surgery or were going to have it. My first impression of him is that he is pretty laid back and humorous. His office staff was really nice and helpful. They were so busy and handled it really well. The least thing I liked about him was the fact that I really felt like I didn't get much out of the consult. He weighed me, told me about risks and benefits, gave me a patient profile to fill out and a book about WLS. I didn't not have time to ask any questions and felt hurried. I am hoping this is just a result of being so busy that day. He really emphasizes aftercare and I got the impression that he does not put up with any BS. It seems like it is pretty structured and said since I lived in Ocala, I could come see him once a month for as long as I needed to for check-up and blood work. He is very blunt about the risks of surgery as well as being overweight. I like the fact that a lot of his patients that I talked to were only "under" for 45-60 minutes. I would say his surgical competence is excellent. He performs the operations literally everyday! His bedside manner was OK, he was nice and funny, but I felt a little rushed. Suggestion: When you go to your consult, be ready to speak up and act quickly, or it'll be over before you know it and you'll have had no time to get any of your questions answered.
Dr. Overcash and his staff are wonderful! I cannot imagine going to anyone else. Meeting your spouse is very important to him. (He wants to make sure you have a good supporter.) He does not have a nurse to bring you back. He does that himself. He is very quick and thorough. You better be prepared when you go in, he's a very busy man. You better be able to handle his bluntness. He will go over any questions you have. He will explain the pros and cons of the surgery you are going to have. He wants to make sure YOU are sure of having wls. After care was a big topic of discussion when we met with him that day. I trust his skills and his judgment completely. All of his office staff are every bit as excellent as he is. **Shelly**
5/1/02 I had my initial consultation today. Dr. Overcash was late arriving at the office. However, when he arrived he jokingly announced himself as late again, and greeted patients. He, himself called me into the office and weighed me. I brought my mother for support and of course all the motherly questions that I knew I would forget. Dr. Overcash was concerned that I didn't bring my husband and stated that he would have to meet him. Dr. was very upfront about the process. Very to the point, tell it like it is. Answered every question I had and more. Very impressed.
I had my first appointment with Dr. Overcash on April 18 2002. Being from Orlando, I had trouble locating his office in Ocala. His staff was very helpful in directing me to the office via my cell phone. Additionally, his staff was friendly and was able to get my insurance approval while I was at the office. I am scheduled for surgery on May 6 2002. Dr. Overcash was very direct as to the risks associated with this surgery. He stressed that he would have to meet with my husband prior to the surgery and that the morning of surgery was adequate. He stresses exercise as part of the aftercare program but I am not sure of anything other than exercise. Overall, I was pleased with my office visit and I left feeling confident of his abilities as a surgeon.
