Dr Overcash's office faxed all the information. Patrice was quite helpful. Dr Overcash answerred all my question prior to be asked. I hope the insurance company approves.

Hello, and I can only say one thing about Dr. Overcash!!! He is GREAT!
I was excited that he called me back from the waiting room and took my weight.
I went into a room, sat down and he started talking, he was very sturn that this was an elective Surgery and wanted me to know everything about what this surgery required, he was a bit concerned that my husband was not there, I tried to make an appointment that Joe could go to but Friday is the only day off and thats the day Dr Overcash is in surgery.
So he said he had to meet my husband and talk to him before he would preform the surgery, the day of surgery would be fine!
I can not tell you how important I felt, Patrice she is incredable!!! That Lady is Awesume, I called her on Tuesday, just to get information, she offered to send me out a book and then came back to the phone after putting me on hold, and said "Celeste I just had a cancelation for tomorrow at 9:45 can you make it then?" I was picking myself up off teh floor!
I had to rearange some things called back 30 minutes later and walla I was in.
I showed for my appointment to a warm and inviting personal office, evEryone in the Lady Lake Office was so nice!
I called everyone I knew when I left because I had a surgery date!!! Yes that is correct I was approved in 5 minutes, boy Patrice knows just how to get some answers and I am one lucky lady. I have surgery schedule for May 6th 2002, and I am having a tubal done at the same time.
I am very satisfied and have a lot of piece about DR. Overcash, he lets you know how important it is to be able to follow his plan all the way through and he will be there for helping me get to my goal.
I really liked it when he said, now... I am not here to get you to look like you are 20 again, and I am not here to make you look like Allie Mc Bille, he wanted me to know that he was there to make me a heathier person and to have a new lifestyle!
I am ready, and can not wait to post more!
Hugs to you all, if you are looking for a surgion, I suggest you look no further!
Dr.Overcash is the MAN!!!

Dr. Overcash: Most informative, friendly, very upfront about this being your last alternative, but understanding that it is a generational issue. Talked with my husband alot while there, not to scare him about the risks involved but to really make sure we understood. He also shared how to help with our daughter who is overweight to help her get back on track. That was tremendous. He sees you for a person with a problem that was taught to you, that is surely a learned trait. It was hard to get a word in, but I understood him perfectly and I believe he understood what I wanted. That was good enough. Aftercare is very important to him, if you do what he tells you there will be no problems. He said he has had no deaths to date. Praise God! His staff was very polite and very busy! I saw him on 4-11-02.

Dr. Overcash was a Doctor I knew I would get along with at first meeting. He explained everything in detail, answered all of my questions before I could ask them and made sure I knew at my age,63 this was not something to be taken lightly. He required me to see a cardiolgist for stress tests and checked my heart out completly before surgery which I was all in favor of. I came through all the tests fine and then we proceeded with surgery.
I found him to be very easy to get along with, but I don't think he suffers fools gladly. That's all right with me as I don't either.
His staff have all been very courteous and helpful in answering my queations and I feel that I could call them anytime. I have already recommended him to my niece and a family friend. I have in my time fired several doctor's, so I don't give recommendations lightly.

I have my first appointment with Dr. Overcash on April 1, 2002. I am very excited, but am having insurance problems! I can't seem to get a straight answer from United Healthcare if this is a covered benefit...and keep getting different replies each time I call them...it is very frustrating because I know this is what I want!!! Keep your fingers crossed please!

UPDATE: I saw Dr. Overcash today. He is everything I have read about him here...upfront about the risks involved...and really stressed that this is an ELECTIVE surgery. I found his tone almost vaguely condecending when he said that diets are always the best choice to lose weight. Well, if they worked then I wouldn't be there with him! Overall I liked him very much..he seems confident and knowledgable. He answered almost all my questions even before I asked them! The best news is Patrice was able to get approval while I was in the office! You could have knocked me over with a feather! I have been scheduled for May 23rd!

I felt comfortable with him right away. His staff is very friendly and helpful. I have had just one appointment with him, and am now working on getting all my information gathered up to send to him. He explained the procedure very throughly. He did not minimize the dangers of it either.

I've had a consultation with Dr. Overcash and I liked him a lot. He was direct and to the point...why would anyone want a doctor that is otherwise? His staff has been great...very helpful and patient. I believe that surgical competence, by far...surpasses bedside manner.

Dr. Overcash was actually the second surgeon I went to. My first surgeon had problems with what my insurance company was going to pay him, so after he cancelled my surgery due to this conflict I fired him. After thoroughly searching for other surgeons on the internet I choose Overcash for #1 surgeon in Florida and Freeman for #2 surgeon in Alabama. Alma, and Patrice, the front office staff, were extremely helpful and considerate during my many calls to Overcash office prior to my initial consultation. In fact, because I was concerned about having to re-do my pre-op testing, Alma figured out a way to get me in to see Overcash within 1 week of my first call. She was absolutely marvelous!

My daughter went with me to my initial consult with Overcash. The visit was very enlightening and painless since I made sure that all my records, including my pre-op tests (x-rays, upper GI, EKG, etc.) arrived the week before I did. Both my daughter and I were very impressed by his attitude, and by his being forthright about what the surgery will do versus what it will not do. He made sure we both understood the risks, and was concerned that my spouse did not attend this session. He said he would not do the surgery until he met my spouse, and said that the morning prior to surgery at the hospital would be fine. He made sure that my family and I understood the risks of surgery, but also understood the small chance of me living much past my 40's in the condition I was in.

He told me exactly what he expected me to do the day of surgery, and what he expected me to do during recovery, then the lifestyle changes that I would be responsible for afterwards. He made sure that I understood that much of my recovery and the success of the surgery depended on my ability to do what he said was required.

The morning of surgery (Tuesday, November 6, 2001), he came into the pre-op holding area at Ocala Regional Hospital in Ocala, FL, and talked to my husband and myself. Overcash reiterated the risks of staying as I was and not having the surgery, versus the risks of having the surgery, then the life expectancy afterwards. It seemed that all of the nurses in this area were extremely happy and enjoyed doing their jobs, and everyone wanted to be where they were.

I remember seeing Overcash a day or two after surgery (I might've seen him before that, but with the drugs I was on, well, I don't seem to remember talking or seeing many friends and family members who dropped by to see me), but I remember seeing and talking to Madeline (his nurse-assistant), and Marchiand (another surgeon in his group, I am not sure how to spell his name) who came in to see me on Overcash's behalf.

The nurses on the fourth floor of Ocala Regional Hospital were God-sent! I remember nurses Carol, Diana, and Paula, and Techs SaToya, and Summer especially. These people were assigned to my room, so they get special recognition for being my own cheer-leaders. Although, when I went walking down the halls (I HAD to get rid of that gas!!!) each and every one of the hospital staff who worked on that floor hailed my praises. They told me that no-one they knew of had ever gotten up literally 'running' up and down the halls so soon after surgery. It made me feel really special, and gave me a little extra incentive to keep up the hard work. All I could remember was that I had to get up and walk as soon as they would let me get up after surgery. The one thing I do remember is that the clock in my room seemed to be the slowest clock in FL the day of my surgery! I remember asking my family and the nurses and the technicians a bzillion times when I could get up and start walking. For some reason, my surgery was at ~8:45AM, but they would not let me get up to walk until after 7PM. That first walk was GREAT. I cannot say enough about it. Although it was only back and forth across my room, I was up. YIPPEE!

On Friday I had an upper GI - YUCK! That yellow liquid was horrendous. That is the only way I can describe it. When they saw that nothing was leaking, the drain tube was removed from my nose, and every IV except one was removed (it was blocked off, but left in my arm in case they needed to use it). Within 1 hour my first 'meal' arrived. These mini-meals came regular as clock-work from 7A-8P, so I had to make sure to drink as much as I could every 15 minutes to keep from getting dehydrated. Anyway, I was released on Saturday evening, and was glad to get home.

I am scheduled to go to Overcash today for my two-week check-up. I know that as of one-week after surgery I had lost 21.5 pounds, since I had an appointment with my hematologist. I was so excited to finally be able to be weighed on a regular scale (it doesn't take much to make me happy).

I highly recommend Overcash and his staff. They have been nothing but pleasant and most helpful during this time of my life, and I cannot imagine having had the surgery done by Peter Sarantos, M.D., of the Gainesville Surgical Group/Center for Obesity Surgery. I know that things happen for a reason in life, and I am truly blessed to have been able to choose Overcash.

Good luck to all who choose this path in life, I believe this was the best option for me. Blessed Be! Angie

My first impression of my surgeon was that I could trust him. He is very honest and up front with you.
I haven't changed my impression of him. He is still honest and caring. He gives you the support you need.
His office staff is very friendly and helpful. I used to call almost every other day and they were always there for me, and still is.
While in hospital he came in every day, but just checked how I was doing. If you had a question you had to be fast and ask before he left.
If you want the truth and support then I recommend Dr. Overcash.
He really emphasizes on aftercare, and follow-up visits. He gives you goals to meet also. Is very strong on walking and making goal on it also.
He was very honest about the surgery. First told me of all the complications, and risks, then told me of the good aspects of the surgery.
On a scale of 1 to 10 Dr. Overcash is a 10.
He is the best surgeon I have had and his bedside manner is excellent. If you have any questions he will answer them truthfully.
I am completely satisified with him.
