Dr. Overcash has been great so far. I am in the early stages with this. He was very honest and forward. I personally like that. He stated, "He doesn't believe in waiting list unlike, the only doctor in Jax.(which I waited 5 months before, I was told it would be Feb. 2002 before I would get an appt. with him). Dr. Overcash's front office staff are wonderful, especially Wilma. She was most helpful and I am looking forward to my surgery date. I will update as progress continues.
My first impression of Dr. Overcash was one of confidence. He takes the time with his patients to answer all of the questions. One can tell that he really is listening and not just going through the motions. His office staff is excellent. When dealing with HMO's you tend to get the run around. His office helps you jump the hurtles and to deal with the frustrations of having to deal with referral agents and insurance personnel who don't know what they are doing. He explains his structured aftercare program on the initial vist and you leave knowing that your surgery (When Approved!) Will be in great hands!
My first contact with Dr. Overcash's office was of course a phone call. A very friendly and helpful person named Patrice answered all my questions and scheduled my first consultation appt. with the Dr. My first impression of Dr. O was he is very convented about the procedure. He sat with me for over a hour discussing all the procedures avaliable and which one he recommend for me.He dicussed risks benefits, and post-op care. He sent me home with to booklets one on the surgery(stats, etc.)one on pre-op and post-op.
After answering all my questions I was given a Patient Profile to complete, it was about 10 pages long. I filled out the profile and faxed it the following day. With that he dictated Letter to my insurance. About 1 1/2 week later I recieved my approval. Then Madelin called me to pick a date and tell what i need to do as far as pre-amit at hospital. I live almost 2 hours away so I was able to pre-admit over the phone and am scheduled to do necessary testing am of surgery. I have called office several times and every time they were very helpful and pleasant.
My first impression was I thought he was the nurse because he called me and took me back to the scales to weigh me. He is very firm in what he tells you. He explains everything in detail. He spends a great deal of time with each patient. My husband was with me and he is not easily impressed but he liked it that the Doctor would not take any bolony off of me so to speak.
He stresses the risks of surgery. His staff is wonderful. Very professional and caring.
Patrice is a wonder woman and Madlyn ?
is very nice also. I look forward to my surgery as I know I am in wonderful care.
Also the Doctor answered my email on how to come to the office.
My first impression with Dr. Overcash is that he is very matter of fact when letting you know just what the term "morbid obesity" means. He pulled no punches and let me know that unless I do something to start reversing the 329 pounds I was at, that I would not live very long. His office staff was very helpful, and one of his nurses also has had a gastric bypass. Although I choose the gastric banding, I knew that she could realte to where I was at. Dr. Overcash can be a little hard on you, especially if you are not losing as fast as he feels you should, but overall I believe he means well and cares for his patients. I am on a one year monthly follow-up. and he assures me that he is there for me if I get into trouble. He does play down the risks of surgery, because he sees more danger in staying heavy than having the surgery, but he did inform me that some people die as a result, more so with the bypass than the band. I believe in his competency as a surgeon, but maybe his bedside manner could be a little more gentle, as he tends to be a little rough. This is just my opinion, but overall I was very happy with my surgeon.
I meet Dr Overcash yesterday 7/26/01. I really liked him. I feel like he will be a great surgeon. He is very direct and to the point, and I think that is great. He explained everything to me as far as before after and in between. His office staff was really nice. they all make you feel at home, and not out of place. Patrice is going to submitt my info to the insurance company, and I guess now all I do is sit and wait with my fingers crossed. I let ya know.
Dr. Overcash is very direct. First thing he tells you on your initial visit is the risks of the procedure. He then explains the risks to you as an individual. Your age, current health condition and the procedure you choose all factor into the equation of the risks. As far as his office staff goes Patrice assisted me with any questions or concerns. She was my right hand during the process of approval and consultation visit and I know to this day I can call her with any concerns I have.
While Dr. Overcash is an excellent surgeon, and is aggressive in his treatment of obesity—I highly recommend keeping visits and interactions totally professional. His office staff is excellent and truly interested in being helpful.
My impression of him has changed over the year and a half I have seen him for post op care. If things are kept on a professional level, then there should be no problems of any kind.
He can be moody and detached during some visits and overly caring during others.
Generally, his bedside manner is great, and I cannot stress enough that he is great surgeon with (from what I hear) very low rate of negative incidences post-op.
This statement only reflects my own personal experience and not his patient care in general...I can only speak to what I know.
DR OVERCASH WAS VERY UPFRONT,HE WAS PLEASANT AND ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS HE NEVER TRIED TO SELL ME THE IDEA OF WLS HE ENCOURAGED ME TO READ ALL THE PRINTED MATERIAL HIS OFFICE PROVIDED ME WITH AND THINK ABOUT LONG TERM COMMITMENT BEFORE I MAKE A FINAL DECESION. THE STAFF WAS FRIENDLY .THE DOCTOR WENT INTO DETAIL WHAT THE PROCEDURE INVOLVES,DREW ME A DIAGRAM EXPLAINED THE AFTER WARDS WHICH I THINK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT,HE WENT OVER ALL THE RISKS INVOLVED AND STRESSED TO ME THAT THIS IS JUST A TOOL IN THIS LIFE TIME BEHAVIOR CHANGE.I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH MY FIRST VISIT I WAS NOT AT ALL DISSAPOINTED IN DRIVING ABOUT 1HR AND 45 MINS TO THE APPT.I AM STILL CONSIDERING IT HE DID SAY I WAS A CANADIATE IF I DO DECIDE TO GO THROUGH WITH IT THE NEXT STEP IS CONVINCING MY INSURANCE CO. TO APPROVE IT.
