I had read that Dr Overcash was a very personable person. I found him to be very kind, knowledgable, and devoted to his work. It took a while for the office to send the paperwork to the insurance company but once they did it took 1 day for approval. I would recommend dr overcash highly. when going to meet him come prepared, read up on the surgery, do some background work on the subject. It goes much smoother.
He explains everything to you , the surgery, the precautions, the aftercare, he also gives you a book to read. I will update more when surgery done.
Post op update
when i was in preop he came in and asked me if i was ready to die. this threw me off, I told him i was not going to die today, that i trusted him and God. He said trust in the latter because he was human.
I still like him but it is a strange thing to say.
When I first meet Dr.Overcash he was running late. His office was packed with people. So I had a chance to hear what other people had to say.
While I was sitting there. This male nurse would call out the next persons name. People would go in and come out so fast. I didn't know what they where doing behind the door. At one point he had a baby gril in his arms. She was cute.
Finaly I was called and guess what? The male nurse was Dr. Overcash. He was doing it all. The calling of the names. The weighing. The exame and walking you out. All of it with a smile. He talked about the risk and family. I like that.
I did feel a little rushed. I had more questions that I wanted to ask. That's O.K.. This site has help me with that.
the frist time I meet dr. overcash, he was running late. the place was packed with people. he never loss his cool. he even had (i'm assuming) his daughter with him. he did it all. greeting you, weighing you, talking to you and then walking you out. i did feel like i was rushed. put you know i can't complain. they did everything. all i said was "yes this is what i want" and now i have a date.
Dr. Overcash is a very unique doctor. On my first visit with him, he was the one who came out to the waiting room to call the patients back, and he did the weigh in. I've never seen a doctor do this before.I still think the world of him. His office staff is very helpful and very sweet to all the patients. The only thing I think I could say that I don't like, is that he is to quick with the office visit. He's in and out very fast, you better have your questions ready. He appears very proud of his patients, and he gives words of encouragement. He made sure I knew about all the risks before surgery, and he asked me again right before going into surgery if this is what I really wanted to do.I would rate him a 10. His surgical competence is his strong suit, and I think that's what really counts.
I had my consultation with Dr. Overcash on Thursday, Oct 17th. What a nightmare finding the place...smiling. I thought I was going to have a stroke after my husband and I arrived in Ocala 2 hours ahead of time from Orlando just to get lost in Ocala. I typed in the address in our navigation system for 3rd St. not Ct. and ended up on another side of town. Gosh I was frantic after 1:00 p.m. with just 30 min. until my appointment. To make a long story short...I was able to get in touch with the office after lunch and Patrice directed us from where we were at.
After that stressed out ordeal I walked in a office with what appeared to be a million people waiting in the waiting room. For a person with no patience I found the conversations around me very entertaining. This one older gentlemen (bless his heart) appeared to be in his golden years was telling his wife that he's never seen so many fat people in his life. He said the problem was..."They probally just ate a dozen of hamburgers from McDonalds with a sack of fries"...not a large order but a sack. I know some may not see the humor to what the older gentleman was saying but I thought it was funny as heck. The preconceived notion that people have about obese people is a sign of ignorance which makes it funny to me. Another young lady appeared to be in her early 20's had a very small 5lb premature baby. It appeared that she got pragnant one mounth after having the surgery and was looking to have her procedure reversed. I don't know the whole story there my guess is, often young people make decisions they tend to regrete.
As far as my experience with OVERCASH. He was THE (((((BOMB)))))) (hip talk for wonderful). He weighed me right away and said he couldn't believe that my BMI was 40. He said by looking at me I would of guess 35 but nevertheless he deemed me as a candidate for having the procedure....hip hip horrraaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!! He also told me and my husband the risks and explained the procedure. I totally trust this man with my life in just a few minutes.
He's awesome and I would recommend anyone who is serious about a heathly life to see Dr. Overcash.
He was very quick and thorough. It sort of felt like I was in an assembly line of losers to be.
His office staff was very busy and I would have liked to have had te time to ask some questions.
He really addressed the complications and even drew a picture of what the stomach looks like after surgery. He does not seem to have a very structured aftercare program but I still came away feeling confident that he is a competent surgeon.
Dr. Overcash has been a great doctor to deal with. He is very sincere and upfront with everything. My wife, Virginia had her procedure done On June 12th and has lost up to date (Oct. 25) 68 lbs. She looks and feels terrific. I am having my procedure done in January.
Anyway, the first impression of Dr. Overcash is that he is serious, he did not smile at all and was very serious. He remainded us the the procedure was optional and that we could die during the procedure.
I was almost in the floor from a heart attack. The thing is that he explained everything and he turned out to be very cool and patient with our questions.
The day of the surgery, he again told my wife that the procedure was optional that she could diet to loose weight and if she was sure and positive about going through with it. My wife does not speak English, so I translated to her. She was fine with everything. At the end he told her again that she could die in the next 15 minutes, so I translated and she bursted saying you don't need to translate that, OK!!!!!
She is very happy with Dr. Overcash. He is very good and personable.
Dr. Overcash was very nice, as I had heard he is to the point no playing around. He took the time to answer all my questions no mater how silly. He never made me feel like he needed to be somewhere else. He called me in from the waiting room and weighed me hiself not a nurse or assistant. He also wanted all my family that came with me to come in and took the time to answer all their questions also. He was very clear that the aftercare was just as important as the surgery.
