I haven't met with Dr Overcash yet...my consult is scheduled for Jan 6, 2003...My visit with Dr Overcash was as I expected it to be..he is a very busy, yet personable man. I feel safe knowing he will be doing my surgery. His office staff was very helpful. I received a call from Patrice the Friday after my consult and she told me they were mailing my packet of info to the insurance co (after 5 days!). I received my approval 1 1/2 weeks later. Thank you Patrice, Jennifer, and all the rest of the staff. Can't wait to come back a loser!
My first thoughts of Dr. Overcash:
Cute
Nice
To the point
Truthful
and
One in a million
I think is a wonderful Dr. and I am so glad I decided to see him and let him do my surgery. He wants the best for us and only the best. You do what he tells you and you won't have a problem if you don't guess what its your fault nobody else. I think that sums it up. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me.

I have my consultation scheduled with Dr. Overcash on 1/31/2003. I have been waiting for about 4 months (for my insurance to change). I am very excited and trying to get ready, as I hear from peers in my support group that he is wonderful but very tough!! I will update again after my consultation.
2/1/2003 Let me start with it pays to be prepared and do your homework ahead of time. As stated in many posts Dr. Overcash was very thorough in explaining in detail the process and stated his goal was to talk me out of it (NO WAY!!!!!!) He was very to the point but extremely personable. He even joked with my husband about a possible effect of the surgery being that I would clean the house more! I was very comfortable with him, as was my husband and grandmother. He even went so far to come out into the lobby, full of patients waiting to see him and appologized for running late. Never have I seen a physician do that. He did not rush and allowed me to go through my list of questions I had prepared for him. I also met Patrice who was also wonderful. Gave me lots of tips on how to get everything rolling. All in all an A+ experience, even with an hour wait. It was well worth it and feel that I have chosen a great surgeon!
I think that Dr. Overcash is one of the best Doctors I have ever gone to. I have never been one to go the a doctor much and I hate it when they don't know what they are doing. If you want great bedside manor and a lot of handholding Overcash is not for you. If you want the best Surgeon doing this kind of surgery Dr. Overcash is your man. It does not take him very long to size up your health or your problems. He is blunt and does not waste his or your time. There are lots of places for you to do your research about weather you are ready for this change in your life. He will not talk you into it. You will get facts and risks from him based on your health. It is not the same for everyone. His staff is helpful and will do all the hand holding you need. I did not get much of an aftercare program because I live in Orlando and he is in Ocala. All he said to me when I asked him about what I could eat was" Here is a list of the things I suggest But Eat anything you want....you will only do it once." And he is right. I feel great. I have lost about 20# per month and for the last 3 and1/2 months. I am down over 70 pound and I feel about 5 years younger already. My legs and knees say thank you Overcash everyday. I cant wait to loose another 100#.
Being a nurse, I had some preconcieved notions going in. I felt Dr. Overcash was informative but I would have liked a little more time with him initially. His staff was courteous and professional. Newbies should bring a list of questions with them to ask so they can utilize the time with him effectively. He is very open about the risks involved with any surgery, but was abrupt at times with me personally, but all in all,his bedside manner was passable. I would rate his surgical competence an 11.
I met with Dr. Overcash very briefly at the initial consultation. I thought he was a male nurse calling me back to the appointment. He explained the surgery and asked if I had any questions. He was very personable, but in that short a time I didn't have that much info on him to really form an oppinion. I can however say his office staff has been absolutely WONDERFUL. Everyone is very helpful and willing to do anything it takes to get answers, and approval from the insurance co. It puts me at ease when I can call a doctors office and it's not a problem for them to assist you anyway possible. I have had expiriences with other Doctor's office staff that gave me the impression they were doing me a favor by talking to me.
On some of the questions posed I will have to wait until my surgery is over before answering. As far as addressing the risks, the doctor was direct and informative. The only thing I would consider perhaps an area for improvement is maybe spending just a little more time with the patient after the initial consultation and before the surgery, perhaps to answer questions. But the nurse on the phone assured me if I had any questions I was welcomed to call anytime.
I had my appointment on Monday the 13th. It went
great. The Dr. & staff were great & very friendly
Now I'm just doing the waiting game.. I had
turned in all my papers @ my appt. I hope it
will not be long... All I can do is pray &
leave it in the Lord's hands.. If he wants me
to go through with this surgery then I hope
it will be soon..
