05/30/04 - Dr. Rumbaut is very knowledgeable and supportive; answered all my questions and some I didn't even know I had; has had the lapband himself for over 6 years; office staff is very supportive and speaks very good english; the logistical support for a foreign country has been great! At this point there are no negatives!
05/31/04 - Arrived and went straight from the airport to the pre-op Doctor. Chest x-rays; blood work nothing out of the ordinary. Was picked up by the hotel van and checked in. Couple hours later had my first face to face interview with Dr. Rumbaut. He went over the procedure; talked about risks; showed me a lapband and explained how it worked.
06/01/04 - Surgery went well very competent hospital staff. It would have been helpful if I had known some spanish, but when I needed something I always managed to get my point across and the nurses responded well.
06/04/04 - Got back from Monterrey last night. Minor gas pains, but feeling great! Surgery went well and Doctors Rumbaut and Diaz are both wonderful. The post-op support was excellent.

this guy is busy, but was very good in dealing w me. if your researching him, you will soon find out he is the best,-with the highest fee to go with.

05/13/04 had my fill on this date. and am both pleased and displeased. pleased because dr rumbault made sure i got a decent fill. displeased because he said he would check up on me and didnt. logically i knew i was fine ,not restricted etc. but still, i came from along way away. if you read this - know that he is busy. im not very assertive, a more demanding person would have seen him again if they wanted to.

Dr. Rumbaut and his team were amazing. I feel like I got better, more attentive, personal care than I would have gotten stateside. His credentials were excellent, and his continuing education, proctoerships, etc made me feel like I was going to be ok.

I did not like the cardiac guy who did his pre-op workups. His equipment was antique and the ultrasound machine apparently did not reveal some adhesions that lengthed my surgery time by an hour, but once I was in the hands of "The Dream Team" (my name for them, not their's) I felt comfortable, safe, and in good hands.

Aftercare is a mixed bag, they pretty much rely on your common sense, but, on the flip side, they ring you back the instant you set the phone down and will spend almost any amount of time on questions or concerns.

My advice is to get a surgeon locally to look after you if you have problems (I haven't thus far) and to join his/her support group.

Overall, my experience was surprisingly good.

I contacted Dr Rumbaut's office by email. He responded within 24 hours each time and gave me his cell telephone number as well as al of his office numbers. He then phoned me at home one evening to answer all of my questions. He seems very kind and was very patient with all of my questions. Also very forthcoming about any and all complications his patients have had.

Dr. Rumbaut is a very professional and personable man. His staff is excellent and he makes sure that you are taken care of every step of the way. My impression has not changed one bit. I am a nursing student and as such watched carefully for aseptic technique and it was never compromised. The care that I received in the hospotal and once I left the hospital and returned to the hotel was beyond compare, and i guarantee that I would never have received the care in the US that I got in Monterrey! I will be going back for plastic surgery and whole heartedly recommend Dr. Rumbaut to anybody considering weight loss surgery even if you do have insurance, you would likely end up paying as much in co-payments as you would if you just go to Dr. Rumbaut, but you will be treated far better!! There is a little disclaimer section below that I just read that says "Completely 100% positive reviews are generally less informative or even suspect." I however have not one negative thing to say about my experience. I have been a patient in american hospitals and have never had better care than I received in Mexico. If I did have to pick one thing that was lacking it would be long-term care as i live no where near Monterrey, I cannot go back for lab work and such.

So far, I am very impressed with Dr. Rumbaut and the assistance of his assistant, Doralisa. Both have been very prompt when answering my questions. Doralisa sent me a lot of pre-op info, and helped make my arrangements for when I arrive in Mexico. Both speak excellent English, so communication has not been a problem.

I will upadate after my surgery.

Dr. Rumbaut was very professional and friendly. He explained how the band worked and gave all the details and answered any questions we had. This man, and his staff, are all very helpful. You can tell the quality of people they are. Very well educated, mannerly, and just plain wonderful. I would recommend this doctor to ANYONE looking for quality care and professionalism.

He called me and we spoke for a loooong time. He knew where I was coming from, and I really felt that he cared. This is all I know for now!

Dr. Rumbaut is very personable and makes you feel right at home. I just returned from spending 10 days in Monterrey where he performed the gastric by-pass on me. I am very impressed with his abilities and my recovery so far. He seems to be very knowledgeable and does both the gastric bypass laparscopically and the lap-band. During you stay after hospitalization, Dr. Rumbaut or his associate comes to examine you daily and is always just a phone call away.

I would rate his surgical competence a 10 and his bedside manner is off the scale.

First impression was extremely favorable.
My impression has improved during and after the process. Office staff was very helpful, they spoke OK English and it was easy to get my point accross. There was nothing that I didn't like about the process. Future patients should know that he is extremely competent, has the band himself (has had for 5 years) is very understanding and answers his cell phone when you call him for follow-up questions. Aftercare can be done by local physicians but I have chosen to use my PCP while consulting with Dr. R. on any band issues. I would rate the experience with Dr. R. as a 9.5 the only negative would be the distance. The greatest positive is his competence level, over 1700 lapband placements and very low complication rate. Bedside manner and personality, none finer.
