Roberto A. Rumbaut Bariatric Surgeon

I felt very comfortable with Dr. Rumbaut. He was easy to talk to and he also has the band. His office staff and the people that he has do the pre-op testing were wonderful. Doralisa Martinez helps with all the setting up of your stay in Monterrey and she did an awesome job. I would recommend Dr. Rumbaut and his staff to anyone. I couldn't imagine having used anyone else. Dr. Rumbaut goes through the aftercare he expects and what some of the possible complications are in your initial consultation. He also called me on the phone after I contacted through email regarding the procedure and answered all of the questions I had at that time. Dr. Rumbauts surgical competence and bedside manner were beyond the best. He even came to our room the day after we got out of the hospital to check on us.

First impression: friendly, smiling, open, willing to help! My impression simply got better over time. Dr. Rumbaut's staff is wonderful, and his secretary Doralisa is fantastic, prompt, and polite in helping you get organized for surgery, right down to getting a discounted hotel reservation for you and transportation to and from airport/hospital/hotel. One of the best things (IMO) about Dr. Rumbaut aside from the fact that he is an incredibly highly skilled bariatric surgeon is that he has had the lap band himself... his starting weight I believe was over 300 lbs and now he is *normal.* So he knows exactly what you're going thru, how you feel about it, how you've struggled, and can empathize with you.

The lap band is a low risk, minimally invasive surgery so aftercare is minimal as well, except for fills. I haven't had my first fill yet since I'm only a week post op :) While in Monterrey, Dr. Rumbaut checked on me frequently, had me come to the office, let me feel his port and showed me HIS before pictures.

Negativity for balance... well the nurses at the Hospital San Jose in Monterrey do not all speak English and that can be a difficulty at times. Learn the word for pain (dolor) and say THAT if you need to. I really didn't have too much trouble communicating with them though! Dr. Rumbaut himself and his staff all speak excellent English. I honestly overall rate him a ten... I'm not going to make up something negative about him to sound more "realistic." My experience was overwhelmingly positive, I am happy I did this, and even happier that he was my surgeon.

Dr. RUMBAUT: 7/6/01 I am now a self-pay and am going to go to Monterrey to have this done. Going to have LAP-RNY (Fobi) I have studied my options - emailed and called several people, everyone LOVES Dr. Rumbaut! I can't wait to meet him. I talked to him on the phone (he speaks better English than I do!) His office staff has been wonderful, setting up my hotel arrangements and rides to and from the airport. We should be so lucky to have a US surgeon give us his cell number and call us personally! I am feeling pretty lucky! He's a "10!" and so is Josey!

Dr. Rumbaut was awesome. I decided to have the lap band before it was FDA approved and the funding was private. When we arrived in Monterray, there was a taxi waiting for us to take us to the hotel. At the hotel was a fax from Dr. Rumbaut about an appt with him that evening in his office around 7pm. The surgery was the next morning and things were very timely, his staff very helpful and even though I don't speak spanish and they didn't speak english, we had no trouble communicating! He is an exceelent doctor. My follow up physician is Dr. Louis Martin in New Orleans and I don't have one bad thing to say about him. He is the most down to earth doctor I've ever met.

Well lets see I had gone to a surgeon in Dallas TX. and the price was high not working at the time just had a baby 2 mon. prior a lady had approced me and said have you heard of Dr. Rumbaut in Monterry MX. I had not but travel there often because my husbands family lives there so I called the dr. that next day on his cell phone he answered and was very informative I soon talked to his staff and sugery set for 2 and a half weeks later his staff was great im leaving to Mexico in two days my pre. op is on thur. sugery set for fri. I cant wait to see the new me like I allways tell my friends some people dont mind being fat but me I have a skinny person inside dying to get out

After two group consults one with Dr. Fox and one with Dr. Weber, my husband and I chose Adjustable gastric banding as the best choice for my size, health and life style.

Dr. Fox referred me to Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey Mexico and things just could not have gone better. I met three other women who were scheduled the same day as I was and we did everything together before and after surgery. We were in the hospital 24 hrs and then went bact to the hotel. Dr. R. visited us the day after we got out. You don't get house calls in the US.

For me, surgery was a breeze, the hard part is learning how to use this wonderful new tool I have been given. I do not feel like I am on a diet, I eat normal food, just very small portions and I do not feel deprived.

With any luck and compassion, the FDA will approve this surgery so that more people can have a chance to experience a new quality of life.

No regrets, life is good. I am so happy for fda approval for those of you who are ready.

My impression so far of Dr. Rumbaut, is that he is a very caring, considerate and compassionate gentleman.

Although I have not met him personally as yet, he has called and conferred with me via phone, as well as via E-mail several times. What doctor in the USA would even care so much? He even gave me his cell phone number, to call him if necessary.

Both Dr. Rumbaut and his staff treat you like a person and not just a mere number, as we so often are regarded to in the USA.
He and his staff treat you with dignity, respect and as though you are a most important person in the world.
His staff sometimes does not get back to me as quickly as I would like, but I think this is due to the culture which is much slower paced than that of we fast, in a hurry Americans. However, they always do get back to me......

After months of research, I feel that I have chosen one of the very best surgeons to do my AGB.I cannot think of one negative thing about him.

After my surgery I will post more about this marvelous doctor, the hospital, after surgery care, etc.

I liked everything I have heard about Dr. Rumbaut. I have e-mailed him and gotten quick responses to all of my questions. He has a lap band himself so he really understands both sides of the surgery. He has so much faith in this surgery that he only does the RNY when he feels that it is absolutely necessary. He told me he does at least 8 band to every RNY. He was one of the pioneers of this surgery and has a high success rate. He was raised in Akron Ohio and speaks excellent English. I would recommend him to anyone. He is the most caring Dr. I have met. I wish more of our US doctors were the same!

My Dr. is absolutly awesome!!1what U.S. Dr. would give you his cell phone # I have been in touch w/ his patients from all over the U.S. and have not heard one bad thing. My first impression of Dr. Rumbaut was through emails. He speaks excellent English, having done his residency in Houston at Anderson. Both he, and everyone I met in connection with him, are very concerned about one's welfare. I have never ever experienced the quality of care I did in Monterrey. It was excellent. The nursing staff was superb. Dr. Rumbaut is one of the most charismatic engaging men that I have met. Spent 1/2 an hour talking with me post-surgery, and even visited me at my hotel to check my incisions. He continues to be very responsive to me post-op. I can always reach him via email or his cell phone. I would recommend him without reservation for both a lap-band or an RNY. Only negative thing I can think of is the distance. I am using a US based doctor for follow-up; however, if it was easier for me to get to Monterrey, I would use Dr. Rumbaut. I still hope to see him at least annually.
