Dr. Rumbaut is an excellent surgeon. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both great. He does a thorough preoperative evaluation (gallbladder ultrasound, EKG, labs, chest x‑ray) the day before surgery (some do it the day OF surgery). He uses two hospitals and they are both JCI accredited.rnHe keeps sleeve patients in the hospital for 2 nights – I felt much better after the 2nd night in the hospital. He removed the stomach through an umbilical incision. He used a 33‑French because when he oversews, it makes the sleeve tighter; 32 would have been too tight. He performed three leak tests – one during surgery, barium the next day, and a barium the last full day in MTY. He gave all postop medications I needed – antibiotic, proton pump inhibitor, pain medications. All transportation is provided. I believe Monterrey to be a safe city. I was able to fly in and out of the MTY airport. The Hampton Inn Gallerias is a great hotel to stay at, great location, right next to a large shopping center.rnrnI was very impressed with him. I felt entirely safe in his hands and, most importantly, trusted him.rnHis nutritionist, Dr. Lizelly Gonzales, is very knowledgeable and approachable. I wholeheartedly recommend him.
I went to Dr. Rumbaut based on a blog of another bandster (see...blogging is important for those of us considering WLS :) ). Dr. Rumbaut and his associate Dr. Guzzman made a great firt impression on me (as did the nutritionist, their intake professional (Cathy), and the rest of the staff). They responded well to all of my WLS-inspired interrogation and guided me into what I should expect, being very blunt and honest about WLS risks and what my weight loss might be after my surgery (best and worst case scenarios).rnrnMy aftercare is being administered by Dr. Nye in Pensacola because of the close proximity of his office to where I live/work. Dr. Nye believes that fills should be done VERY SLOWLY (though I don't know that I agree, particularly since I've been self pay for everything so far). The good news about Dr. Nye is that he has been very gentle with the fills and that I am, slowly but surely, creeping up to where I need to be with the cc's.
I have decided to go with Dr. Rumbaut here in Monterrey. He gave me a surgery date yesterday...October 10, 2008. Finally! It has been a long row to hoe...since my decision to do this. I am excited, but anxious about the 2 week liquid diet I must follow before surgery. I know I can do it...if I have to...rnrnHis staff is friendly...really a very pleasing experience to visit his office facilities. Dr. Rumbaut is friendly and speaks excellent english. I am looking forward to becoming better acquainted with his nutritionist during the coming months.rnrnI raite Dr. Roberto Rumbaut as \"Excellent\" both on surgical competence and bedside manner.
I liked my surgeon right away. His team is great too!rnThe office staff was great. There wasn't anything that I did not like. Future patients or someone looking for a great surgeon and a great team (hospital, office, hotel etc) this is your place to be. They take care of everything and there are no hidden charges.rnThey do have structured after care and they stay in contact with even the out of country patients. I would rate my surgeon and his team against any in the world and I would bet a years pay that they would be the best. There was much more than the great bedside manner and surgical competence. Under this part it say No person can be the \"best\" in all aspects. Well I refuse to lie to make it sould that I had anything go bad when I didn't. I'm sure all doctors have bad days and things go wrong but it wasn't me and I didn't see anything negitive during my office visits or any other contact with his team.
Great Doctor, Great Hospital, Great Nurses... my incision sites are loads smaller than some of my associates who had their surgery done in the states. I have had no complications at all. I began my pre-op diet at 255 and was a size 24/26 and now I currently weigh 128 and am a size 4. I lost over 100 lbs in the first year alone.
I researched quite a bit and was impressed with Dr. Rumbaut's reputation. His staff was nice, helpful and always pleasant to deal with.rnAll of the doctors associated with Dr. Rumbaut were very professional yet approachable and friendly (and beautiful). Dr. Rumbaut's office is very simple yet clean and the staff appeared to be very effecient.rnThey emphasize aftercare and I believe they have doctors all over that they deal with. I am lucky to live close enough to travel back to Monterrey for my follow ups. The pre-op testing was thorough and plenty of opportunity was given for questions. I understood the risks just from research, but everything was covered anyway. I would rate Dr. Rumbaut an absolute 10. Extra points for sense of humor. In my opinion, his surgical competence, bedside manner and overall care measured up to everything I had read about him.
When I met Dr. Rumbaut, I thought he was going to be like most doctors, a quick hello, in and out after he explained a couple of things. But that wasn't the case. He spent over two hours with us in a hotel conference room and explained and answered everyones questions. His staff and everyone that works with him is great. Even his good friend in Chicago, Illinois that does my adjustments. When I arrived in Mexico, I was greeted with the upmost respect a person could get coming to a foreign country. I had a great stay in a hotel with transportation anywhere I wanted to go. The only thing that sucked was, I was on a 3 week liquid diet and the hotel was right next to an applebees and a mcdonalds, but thats ok I was well prepared for this surgery. So the day before surgery was very busy and tiring. I had to do many pre-op tests before meeting the good Dr. So the day of surgery we walk in and are greeted as well (when I say we, I mean my Brother too.) He was the one that helped me pay for everything. I was very nervous going into surgery, cause its kind of scary knowing you might not come out of something like this with at 66.6 BMI. So 1 hour later the surgery was a success and I was in and out of recovery quickly. My hospital stay was only one day and a half of another. Dr. Rumbaut checked on me a few times which is rare in the sates. He even came to see me in the hotel as well. That's what really wowed me bout him.. He is really into his work and I respect that man very much. If I had to rate Dr. Rumbaut and his staff, I would definitely give them two thumbs up. They make you feel so comfortable and so relaxed that you feel right at home. I would recommend Dr. Rumbaut to anyone. He is a great doctor and a very respectable person......
