He was very busy and the office was behind sechedule because he was at the hospital. But when we ( He took 3 of us new patients back to his office and we talked for about 20 minutes) sat down to talk about the surgery he was very kind and caring. He explained the process and the dangers. He answered all my questions in detail. His office has been wonderful both on the phone and in person.
I am now almost 3 months post op. Dr. Overcash has been wonderful. He has been there for all my questions and a few small problems. His staff and nurse are great. When ever I have a question I can call and his nurse has answer right away. I have lost 45lbs in under 3 months. ( I was hoping for more but... what can you do?)

I couldn't be happier

My first impression of Dr. Overcash was that this Doctor knows his stuff, very to the point with no nonsense. Lets you know from the very beginning what you are getting into and it is your decision to go foward and it would not be easy but if determined would be very worthwhile. My opinion of him when we got to the hospital ,was just reinforced that I had made the right decision. Still very to the point and very strick while my stay was there I had some complications but not due to the surgery but with a cold that I had prior to the hospital and did not tell anyone that I had it. The complete staff at his office is so helpful Patrice is a Godsent she really gives it her all to get you through all the red tape of insurance companies and Christeen on the internet was most helpful with having been through the surgery herself. There was nothing that I would have changed or ask the staff or Dr. Overcash to do any different. Would I recomend this Dr. to future patients the answer is, If you want the best then Dr. Overcash and his staff are the ones you are looking for.I feel that I can call at anytime and get help from someone there.I have heard that his bedside manner leaves some to be desired but what I say to that is that he wants you to start right away to start healing and you cannot do that and be pampered too.But overall he was very pleasant to me and my family before surgery and while I was in the hospital. Sincerely, Flo Vineyard

My first impression of Dr. Overcash was he was straight to the point. He didn't tell you anything good about the surgery. He concentrated on the risks. He wanted to be sure that you have tried everything before you did this and that this was an elective surgery. His office staff was great everyone was very nice. Dr. Overcash has been doing bariatric surgery for about 10 years and his record is great. I just happenned to have a leak when I was eight days post-op. I live in Jacksonville and Dr. Overcash is in Ocala that about 2 hours away. The navy hospital sent me by ambulance to Ocala where Dr. Overcash was there waiting on me. He escorted me to have another upper G.I. done and was there for me the whole time I was in the hospital. He was great to me. I was in the hospital another 11 days plus in ICU for 2 days. His after care has been wonderful. He was great to my family especially to my husband. His surgical competence is great. After you have the surgery he is really on your side about loosing the weight. Once the risks have passed he pushes you to exercise and to eat right and is cheering you on to loose the weight. One thing I can tell future patients don't let him catch you in the bed after surgery he will not be happy with you. He wants you up and moving. He will help you but you have to be willing to help your self.

not talktive but very good surgeon
no my impressions didnt change
the office staff is very good
he is sometimes abrupt
if you have a question ask it dont be nervous

He tells you about the risks
I like him and I think surgical competence is better that bedside mannor both would be great but he can be very nice

When I first met Dr. Overcash I thought, "Wow is he young", but after he brought us back for our consult (he also has other people thinking about the surgery come back with you, which was cool) and explained all the risks, complications and especially stressed that he wasn't there to talk you into to surgery, at that point how he looked didn't matter. His staff was very professional and pleasant. I can't really think of anything I didn't like about him. He is very candid and serious when explaining the procedure, but has a nice sense of humor about him. He went on the say if you cheat or don't follow your new "diet", you'll pay for it. This procedure can be unforgiving (because everything is re-routed). I am not too sure there's any "structured" aftercare, but I plan on using this website for support. I has been awesome! I would have to say the biggest thing I learned about WLS was that an Open vs Laproscopy wasn't anything that I'd thought it was. Dr. Overcash does Open RNY's: 1. You are under anthesthia for less time. 30-40 minutes vs 2-2 1/2 hrs.
2. One 4 inch incision vs 5-6 1 inch incisions. You do the math!
I would rate Dr. Overcash an 9 on what I've experienced so far.

when i first met dr overcash i was impressed with his to the point attitude the more i researched the surgery the more qualified i found him to be the rest of his staff were incredible esp patrice she really fought for me with the insurance company and i don't think it would have happened without her. i really like the dr that i chose there was nothing about him that i can say i didnot like he is a very gifted surgeon. anyone considering to have dr overcash do there surgery has made the perfect choise in doctors. i have had no serious side effects from the operation and i am not intecipating anything i thank god every day for such a wonderful dr i honestly believe that if i had not had this operation i will not live to see my next birthday with all my health problems i am sure the weight would have killed me.

My 1st impression of Dr. Overcash was good. I liked his straight forward mannerisms, the no sugar coating regarding the surgery and the risks involved. I did not see Dr. Overcash again until the day of my surgery and he left the same impression. I think his surgical skills are top of the line. Patrice was great, so very helpful. At this point I have no negative comments to make regarding Dr. Overcash or his office staff.

I would rate Dr. Overcash an 8, on a scale of 1 to 10. I cannot give him a 9 or a 10 because I think that the aftercare information needs to be clearer. I left the hospital without much direction.

I think that surgical competence is the most important. However, I feel that you should feel comfortable with the Dr. you select.

I met Dr. Overcash at a intro-to-bariatric-surgery class. As a surgical nurse I was very impressed with his forthcomming attitude about his successes and failures.

I haven't changed my opinion of him except to say I like him better each time we meet.

His office staff is really nice but Patrice Hinder his insurance coordinator is the bomb!!! She can cut the red tape and get those insurance people to do their thing in record time. Sainthood awaits that chick!

The thing that I like least about him is that he practises in Ocala, FL. I wanted a closer doctor but some times the mountain must go to Mohammed.

Don't be put off by his busy manner and the fact that he doesn't spend a lot of time with you individually. If you need him, he will be there and the "busy" thing just hides a very soft heart from being hurt if one of us should not make it.

Aftercare is very important. If your not going to take your vitamins and exercize he won't do your surgery. End of story.

Sorry, I dont know about his aftercare program structure as yet. My date is 12/9/04.

He was very honest about the risks. You can die, anything less should be just gravy.

He is the man you need in the OR. Surgical competence is the ONLY important thing. Who cares if your doctor has a great bedside manner and totally sucks in surgery. Dead is still dead even if he can say good-bye to your corpse very eloquently.

That is why I'm an OR nurse and not a floor nurse. I have a sucky bedside manner but I'm also the best nurse in the office according to the surgeons that I have worked with. What do you really want: a great result from surgery or hand holding and someone oohing and ahhing over you. Go for the surgery greats and hold your own hands.
