MY first impression of him was that he was quick and to the point and honest. I have just met w/ him a second time and found him to be more personable w/ a sense of humor, his staff was on top of things and helpful, He tells you like it is and wants to make sure you really want this surgery .He wants you to follow up exactly what you should eat and drink and do w/ aftercare He is very truthful about the risks of surgery and does let you know that you could die.I would rate him a 10 so far he took the time to see me again after I had therapy for 5 months to see if I was really o.k. to have surgey I havent had surgery yet waiting for ins. approval and will update then
Well I've officially begun the process, I made the decision last night to go ahead and find a surgeon. After being up all night, I chose Dr Hocking, only to find out he's not accepting patients. I called my second choice, and I have an appt. on April 21st. It's killing me that I have to wait a month!
Upon meeting with Dr. Overcash I found him to be very straight forward and almost offensively truthful. He does believe in reality therapy! However, I could see that he is very knowledgable in this field. During the consultation he made sure I understood the steps I was taking and the risks involved. His front staff was by far the best experience with his office. The meeting with Dr. Overcash was very quick and to the point. Patrice actually took the time to go over the paperwork, look at the records I had brought with me and take copies of medical histories. I will not see the doctor again until the morning of surgery.
I had seen a lot of information here on obesityhelp.com on surgeons in Central Florida, and one really stuck out from the rest, Dr Overcash. I read all the talk about how he greeted patients and brought them back himself to weigh, and how blunt and direct he was, really no nonsense. But I also read how skilled he was, how knowledgeable, and that is what helped me make my decision. When I met him on March 15th, my partner and I were ushered back to the room. He explained about the surgery, the risks involved, what I could expect pro and con. He did not ask me "the question", as my children are all grown and moved from home, but we did talk about how my partner's son would be affected if something happened to me. He asked if I had any questions, and when I pulled out my LONG list, he just smiled, and patiently answered EVERYTHING! In fact, he said he liked seeing patients come in like me, those who would be prepared with questions and all, instead of those that just sat there. He really blew me away, and my partner and I really trust him with my life. His office staff are incredible, and I feel I am soooo very blessed to have found him!
I feel Dr. Overcash has little bedside manners, but is a skilled surgeon. He greatly emphasized the fact that death could occur as a result of the surgery, but did not give detail of the other complications that you may live and struggle with day to day. His nurse Madeline became a good resource for details of the surgery and for problems after surgery. I feel that the nutritional support is lacking, there is liitle information provided on appropriate foods post 6 weeks. I feel that Dr. Overcash is a superior surgeon but his program lacks the support that other bariatric surgeons provide for aftercare.
I think Dr. Overcash, is the best! He is a no nonsense guy and tells you exactly how it is. I went into this procedure fully aware of what to expect (the pros and the cons). In the year since I have gotten to know Dr. Overcash, I have come to really respect and admire him. He has a great office staff too. The only suggestion I would have for him is to have a program that covers the nutritional aspects of the surgery, other than that I have nothing but good things to say about him. He is a top notch surgeon, with a quirky sense of humor.
Dr. Overcash, in my opinion, is a very good surgeon. He is very direct and honest about the risks of surgery. He is abrupt at times, but will answer any question you have, just make sure you are prepared when meeting with him. His office staff is very helpful but I have had some difficulty with follow up at times. I would recommend Dr. Overcash but be aware that he does not coddle others, make sure you have a strong family support and attend support groups where available. He is very individualized to each person and isn't very consistent with recommendations. I feel that he changes his recommendations when he sees success for others or reviews alternate research.
I had been told that he could be a bit "abrupt" and "too the point" and I thought he was cool. He was patient and answered every one of my questions with out hesitation. The staff is helpful and nice. I think that people should be ready for their surgeon. Have your questions in hand, don't waste time. Let him know how serious you are about this surgery and that you've done your homework.
