I have meet Dr.Overcash, What a doctor. He was completely down to earth, I felt very at easy with him. I have not seen a doctor like him since; I worked at a hospital back in 1981. What a refreshing feeling to know that the man your putting your life in his hands cares so much about you and this is the first time your meeting him. He was straightforward and asked if you have all of your affairs in order. He wants you to know every possible risk, and weather you like it or not he is going to make sure that every aspect of possible risk is covered and that YOU will be alright prior to him performing the operation. Including ordering additional testing beyond what the insurance wants. He took an hour and a half speaking with us.
OH and do not think your going to slack off during recovery. I thought recovery would be at least 3-4 weeks, Ah no try the day after you get your staples out your back to work. And your up and walking the day of the operation within 2 hours, and by your 2 week follow up you should be up to walking a mile. My thoughts on this is thank the lord I have Dr. Overcash on my side, someone who cares so much and is willing to push us to make us the best we can be.
I have researched this procedure for a while and had contact with many patients (his and others), so the technical aspect of the surgery wasn't a big question to me. Dr. Overcash discussed the risks/complications related to the surgery and didn't try to sugar coat anything (thanks, I appreciate that). The few questions I had, I think he put my mind at ease with and quite honestly, I feel lucky to be his patient.
As far as aftercare, he told me his expectations, and that the nutritionist will give me the diet needed to follow up.
I think the staff was great, the office wasn't crowded at all, I wasn't rushed, and I felt I was speaking to someone who is more concerned about his patient than anything else. I am SO glad that I found Dr. Overcash!
My first impression of Dr. Overcash is that he is a person. I have been to and worked with many docs who think they are God--Dr. O is very down to Earth and made me feel comfortable right off the bat. I think his staff is very helpful and friendly. I heard Patrice on the phone with an insurance company--she is no nonsense with them and that is exactly how you have to be. She was also very helpful and friendly with me. Future patients should know that this doctor will not try to sell you this procedure. He will tell you ALL the risks and make sure you know it is ELECTIVE!! He has an aftercare program as far as visiting him. I would rate this doc from a 1-10 with 10 being great--a definate 20!! I feel both surgical competence and bed side manner are important. BUT-- if I had to chose I would chose competence over friendliness. Although Dr. Overcash seems to be both! The only thing I didn't like was I had to wait about 40 minutes to be seen. There were no other patients in the waiting room so I didn't understand why--but when we got back with the doc we realized it is because he takes time with you. The ride was also longer than I would like--but I would rather have a good doc than a short ride. :-)
My first impression of Dr. Overcash was that I was impressed by his honesty. He could have said, oh everything will be just fine, but he was honest and told it like it is. My impression of Dr. Overcash never changed, I dont know about anyone else, but I prefer honesty over all.
Dr. Overcash and his staff are great, I had questions and they all are just a call away. They answer the questions and Im happy.
I would say that best thing to look forward to with meeting Dr. Overcash would be his honesty. I mean, he will surprise you with what he has to say, BUT its the truth and sometimes the truth is scary. The risks for instance, he will flat out tell you the truth about the risks. He will also tell you that you need to take care of yourself afterwards. If you are not into this for the long hall, then dont do it!
If I had to rate Dr. Overcash from 1-10, I would give him a 20+. Dr. Overcash was blessed with some great hands, and Im sure he worked hard to be the best.
I THOUGHT that his bedside manner was excellent, and his surgical competence, well is obvious. Im returning to work after only 2 weeks, and I feel great!!
I dont know about anyone else, but I had a good experience with the whole procedure, I had a good hospital stay, plus a great Dr. I personally do not have anything bad to say. As far as others are concerned, they may have something negative to say, but I guess thats what makes us all unique with opinions.
DR. OVERCASH, thank you so much!!!! :)
My first impression of Dr. Overcash and his staff was wonderful. I visited my primary care Dr. on 11/11 and got his blessing to meet with Dr. Overcash. I called Dr. O's office on the same day and was given as consultation appointment for the 17th. I was so impressed. I thought that I would have to wait forever, but only 6 days was great! Once I traveled the 2 hours that it takes to get there I was shocked to see that the office was not overcrowded like I have read about on this site. There were 2 people there, and 2 waiting. This made me feel so much better. He came and weighed me just like everyone says and was so personable. He tells you just like it is! I would have gone with him that very second to get operated on. No qualms! I have now submitted all of my paperwork to his office and am waiting on insurance approval. I am so excited!
My first impression of Dr. Overcash is not quite typical. He really didn't give me an overly good or bad impression. He seemed to me as a man going about his job. He seemed extremely confident, leaning a bit toward the cocky. I think that is good, especially in a doctor. I want him to know what he is doing an be exteremely confident in his skills. I don't care if he is the cockiest SOB in America, he will be working on one of my most prized possesions (MYSELF), and I want to be him to be more confident in himself than I am in him. His staff seemed extremely busy and it seems quite understandable with the enormous amount of people waiting for him in the waiting room. I believe the true test of this surgeon will come when I am lying face-up, disrobed, and on the verge of meeting my maker and I wake up knowing that what should have been done, was done.
When I first met Dr Overcash, I could tell he was a straight forward kinda guy....which is exactly what I wanted. He immediately weighed me, and took my BMI and then we went in and talked. He answered all of my questions candidly and openly. I never once got the impression he was trying to convice me to have surgery...if anything, it was the other way around given how candid he WAS being! Some of his answers are downright scary!
Everyone in his staff has been helpful and friendly. I've called many many times as I have had changes in insurance and they are always helpful.
I would certainly tell other people about Dr Overcash, and I already have despite having only recently met him and not even had surgery yet...I'm confident he is the surgeon for me and have no doubts. For people just meeting him...Beware: He asks VERY blunt, and scary questions. This is a major surgery and not for people who are going into it w/o a commitment to take advantage of this tool. So...see him with your answers, and be ready for some truth. Love to ya Dr Overcash!
POST OP COMMESNT: Dr. Overcash is my hero now. I have the utmost respect for him as a surgeon and as a person. He treated me with compasion and genuine concern while in the hospital, and when I had complication with my my IV he even came to the recuse by putting in a central line himself. I glad he was my surgeon and would be willing to share my experiences with anyone if it helps them chose, in my opinion, the best surgeon.
