'Dr. Rumbaut and his staff are excellent. They are young and vibrant and have a great sense of humor. There was alot of laughing over the course of 4 days. They sure work some long hours. Surgery starts at 7:30 am and they are sitting with you in your hospital room at 7:30 pm to see how you are feeling and explaining your various pains. I couldn't understand why my left shoulder hurt a bit
I liked Dr. Rumbaut and thought he did a good job--which was confirmed by another doctor when I got back home. The biggest problem is that he is 1,500 miles away--I can't go back to him for follow-up. If I had to choose again, I'd go with someone local so I could get quick care when I need it. Sometimes less expensive is more expensive.
Dr. Rumbaut is a kind, professional, VERY personable physician that I would recommend to anyone. He is quite good at follow up, and takes a keen personal interest in each of his patients...at least that has been my experience. I have had some "functional" complications from surgery (cramps and burning) and Dr. Rumbaut said to call him on his cell phone anytime. I am going back for tests tomorrow, and have been assured all is well. I think this guy is a truly gifted surgeon with a well-oiled practice, and would definitely do it all over again. The only thing I can say that might be a negative is aftercare, due to the fact that his practice is in Mexico.

Dr. Rumbaut is FANTASTIC! My 1st impression of him was "woah- he is hot!" :) The 2nd impression was that he is very caring and understanding of living with obesity. (In fact, he wears a lapband himself). He showed me an actual band (filled and unfilled). He also shared with me his own, personal band mishaps. This made me really connect with him on a personal level.
The negative to Dr. R is that he is very busy. I saw him twice after surgery - he came by twice in the hospital and once while I was in the hotel. However, he sent his assisting docs daily. I always felt well taken care of ad had Dr.R's phone number at all times. Plus how many American docs would you see 3 times following surgery.
I was a bit concerned after having my lapband surgery. I think my body went into crisis mode. First, my body seemed to reject the IV and it actually "came out" of my hand the night after surgery. The nurses kept trying to jiggle it back in......I was very upset by this and communicated that to Dr. R. He had the nurses remove the IV and all pain meds were taken orally. Secondly, I also had diarrhea on my empty stomach. I kept having this really weird yellow discharge instead of normal diarrhea. Dr. R didn't seem to think it was a big deal. However, his assistant Dr. did seem concerned about it. Dr. R quickly said something to him in Spanish and the subject was dropped. Thirdly, I started my period -- 3 weeks early! Dr. Rumbaut said my body was just reacting to surgery -- everyone is different.
The other ladies who had surgery the day I did were fine. They didn't have any of the issues or nausea that I had. Although I was only 23 years old at the time of surgery, the ladies in their 40s were bouncing back quicker than me. The other ladies thought I had a stomach "bug" following surgery. I don't know - it is really difficult to tell when you have an empty stomach. I think my body is just weird! Surgery-wise though, all was great. The scars are minimal and my gyn even commented on how clean my incisions were.
He is a very good surgeon and wants success. He is far better than any doc I have ever met in the states! The hospital was gorgeous. I would have Dr. Rumbaut perform surgery on my or my family members any day of the week. He is a class act. I am proud to say he did my surgeon.
My experience with Dr. Rumbaut and his team was wonderful. Dr. Rumbaut was very personable. The staff were very friendly. His team, nutritionist and associate doctor, really emphasize the six weeks following surgery - what to do, what not to do. I didn't address risks of surgery with Dr. Rumbaut as I had already completed my research before making contact.. On a scale of 1 - 10 I would rate Dr. Rumbaut as a 9. I In my opinion surgical competence wins hands down to bedside manner.
My first impression of Dr Rumbauts was that he was kind, personalbe, interested in his patients and excited about the work he was doing. The office staff were very helpful and made every effort to communicate effectively being english is a second language for most of them. They provide everything they promise. Aftercare was not talked about a great deal because I am here in the US and had chosen to do follow up here. They do offer a program with on-line support. I continue to learn more about who he is..he is pretty renowned for his work with the lap-band, training surgeons from all over the world, he has done some 3,000 bands and has one himself. I can't complain things went great. Dr. Rumbuat, Dr. Rodriguez, and the nutrisionist were all great. I really can't think of anything negative to say.
I was banded on Sept. 22, 2005. Dr. Rumbaut and his whole office staff are awesome. They are the most caring Doctors office I have ever delt with. During our consultation he answered all my questions and was very up front on everything. He actually showed us a band, and let us hold and see what it looked like filled. He was very easy to talk to and funny I might add. They took care of everything you could think of. The nurses in the hospital were very nice and helpful. They were always checking on us. Everyone in Mexico it seemed like they went out of their way, even our taxi driver. They are very serious about customer service unlike in the States. I am so happy with my band. This is the first time in my life I havent been hungry. When I was back in my hotel room if I had a problem they were always there if I needed them. I cant think of one bad thing.
