The first and only time I saw Dr. Rumbaut he was friendly, but in a hurry to move us in and move us out--but with a smile. Felt a little like the salesperson mentality - say what makes us comfortable (though it may or may not happen). Cathy, the USA coordinator said Dr. Rumbaut would be happy to show my husband (a fellow physician) how to do the fills. That didn't happen (though he did get a little \"toy\" to practice with while we were there). His assistant said my husband could observe the surgery, that didn't happen. Dr. Rumbaut said he would dub some instructional videos to show how to do a fill, that didn't happen. His assistant said he could watch/assist with the only fill she had scheduled that day-that didn't happen. Dr Rumbaut said he would be back out to get my husband after about 45 minutes to come see me in recovery. Over 3 hours later, my husband freaking a little, they finally had taken me to my room and took him there. So what I mean by the salesman personality thing is that they seem to say a lot of things to please you, but they don't actually get done. I don't know if that is cultural or what, but I was assured my husband would be taught how to do a fill (not just play with a fill toy) and that didn't happen! So this is my biggest disappointment.rnrnDr. Rumbaut's staff were all very nice and friendly. They also seemed very competant at their jobs. The front desk did change my plans upon arrival without letting me know, so I went to two wrong places before making it to their office and when your driver doesn't speak English this was no small task! The nutritionist very thoroughly went over how my diet needed to change especially over the next few weeks and what the risks were it I did not. The assistant surgeon covered how the procedure worked and took any questions we might have. Both were very nice. rnrnI was checked on in the hotel by one of his very friendly Dr.'s on staff who brought my post op report. I received a call from Dr. Rumbaut that he had stopped by, but we hadn't made it back from the hospital at that point. He said he would stop back by before we left the next day, but he did not make it back.rnrnI came to Dr. Rumbaut because of his renowned surgical abilities and extensive experience and I imagine I would do it again. It is just after all the glowing reviews I had read about his personality, I thought I would feel more at ease once I met him and I didn't. rn
01/31 06:19 PMrnHi Everyone! I'm back & I want to celebrate an AWESOME trip to Monterray (except for the daily rain & cold temperatures!) to meet Dr. Rumbaut, and his team! Wow! What an incredible group of medical staff he has assembled on his team! it's lucky for them all that my suitcase size wouldn't allow me to 'roll' them up and bring them home with me....smile! Dr. Rumbaut, Dr. Horacio, & Dr. Richard are so...ooo...oo cute and incredibly caring, compassionate individuals. Their bedside manner was always upbeat making me feel I was the most important patient in the hospital! I believe it when they say the love what they do. It shows!! Dr. Lizcelly and Dr. Adriana (who visited me each day @ the hotel) are absolutely wonderful and so knowledgeable & helpful. The office staff are the best! They all truly want to improve the health & well-being of those suffering from obesity. I felt so comfortable (I travelled alone) and always felt that I was just a phone call away if I needed anything. I am now 2 weeks out and will be starting on soft foods later today. I have Dr. Rumbaut's cell phone # (how incredible is that!) which he gives to all his patient. Drs. Richard, Horacio, Lizcelly & Adriana are also just a phone call away. The follow-up post-op to me is so important & as the \"Team\" says, this is a lifelong journey and they will be there for us every step of the way! A special 'thank you' to Brigette, my PC, who has been incredible and the angel on my shoulder! Thank you all!! Cheers, Janice (Mary)
My first impression of Dr. Rumbaut was first through his website and the information I was able to gather on him.. I researched for months and months. I kept coming back to him. I was intrigued when I found out about his robotic surgery update. He is a very learned man!rnrnMy impression of Dr. Rumbaut only got better when I was contacted by one of his patient coordinators. His staff was right there to guide me all the way through the descision process and the surgery. My worries about having the surgey done in Mexico were quickly squashed when I did some research on the Medical hospital and staff there. rnrnDid you know that the hospital that he works from is the first choice of BOTH President Bush 1 and 2? I have never seen an Amercian hospital to be its equal. rnrnDr. Rumbaut's staff is still with me now as I follow through with my post op. I would feel so alone without them!rnrnI guess you could say that Dr. Rumbaut has saved my life. I am very grateful to him and his amazing staff!rnrnDo I have anything negative to say? Yes...I wish I spoke Spanish but I am glad that there were enough bilingual people around that I got around just fine.
Dr. Rumbaut was the most down to earth physician I have ever met. He gives out his cell phone # and actually answers his calls. His office staff is orgainzed and efficient. They are always there pre & post op to answer questions. If you are considering having surgery in Mexico you would be hard pressed to find a more experienced surgeon. Aftercare is emphasized and referrals for Dr's in my area were given. I would rate Dr. Rumbaut a 10 out of a score of 10 in competency, bedside manner, and kindness.
Dr. Curry is one of the few American surgeons who will accept patients who have had their surgery elsewhere. I was lucky enough to have him agree to take me on for fills and aftercare before my surgery in Mexico. He is charming, personable and has an abiding interest in every patient, and in LapBand surgery and Bariatric surgery, in general. He is readily available by email even on weekends. He apparently does fills for out of town patients on one Saturday a month and charges a reasonable fee for them. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking an excellent surgeon in the Cincinnati area. I really can think of nothing negative to say about him other than my insurance would not cover surery, or I would have had it here rather than making the journey to MX.
Dr. Rumbaut made a point to call his staff and ask if I could wait a few minutes in his office so that he could personally meet me and my husband. To answer any questions or concerns I might be having. (he was running a little late from the hospital) He has a great staff and by the time I met with Dr. Rumbaut I had been given more then enough info and reassurance. He is a very nice Dr. Much different from most Doctors in the US. I never felt rushed by him. He is intellegent, confident and has the lap band himself. Who better to know what we will be going through!rnIn an overall rating 0 -10 rnrn *10+*rnrnHope this helps!
My first impression of him was energy-he seems to be a fire ball and very excited about helping people on their weight loss journey. He has a Lap Band himself and his staff always emphasizes that this is a tool, not a cure. It helps but you need to make it work for yourself! He has a great command of the english language and I never had a problem understanding him or the other surgeons with him. Risks of surgery were listed on his website and then he reviewed them again the day prior to surgery. He is very very thorough with pre op testing and lab work.rnrnIf I had to change one thing it would be to not have hiim answering his cell phone in the middle of conversations.
After extensive research, I choose to have Dr. Rumbaut do my RNY on 7/18/05. I urge anyone looking into WLS to look into his practice! His prices are extremely reasonable and for the care and service you receive, well...you just can't beat it! Dr. Rumbaut was very personable yet extremely professional in explaining the entire procedure to me. He has a great sense of humor and makes you feel like you've known him for years! His staff is top notch and the facilities at the hospital...WOW! From the time I arrived at the hotel until I left, his staff took care of scheduling all my appointments and all my transportation. All the doctors and almost all the staff spoke english so I never felt \"alone\" or \"lost!\" I would recommend Dr. Rumbaut and his practice to anyone looking into WLS! The only thing I wish is that I could have communicated with the nurses at the hospital better as I don't speak Spanish and their english was limited. I am 13 months post-op and down 131 lbs, thanks to Dr. Rumbaut and his great staff!
