I am very impressed with Dr. Shin so far. He has a great personality and talks to me like a real person. He almost acts more like a friend than your surgeon but I like that. I have the up-most trust in him and I am impressed with his accomplishments. He genuinely appears to take your heath very seriously and wants the best from his patients. The Metabolic company in Charleston West Virginia has a great program and a great staff. I only wish it was in Huntington.
My first impression of Dr. Shin was that he is very young, however just after a very short time I realized that he was also very educated, caring and professional. He is very dedicated to his patients and their success. The Medabolix clinic is very well staffed and they address every issue with surgery including aftercare and risks of surgery. He has the best bedside manner of any physican I have ever known and being a nurse for 14 years I have known alot of doctors. He is also very competent, I would definately choose him again if I was just starting my journey. I would rate him a 10.
Dr. Shin is wonderful!!! I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. I did some research about him before deciding to let him do my surgery and found that he is one of the top surgeons in the state of WV! He will spend all the time you need in answering your questions and addressing your concerns.
This is a very structured program. The entire staff is trained to work with bariatric patients. They have a nutritionist on staff who will work with you and address your diet and nutritional needs. The office staff was very helpful with submission of insurance paperwork. They are also eager to help bariatric patients. The clinic also has a gym and personal trainers who will help you get started with an active lifestyle. These trainers are very nice people who want to help you...no matter how heavy or thin you are!!! The nurses and PAs are very nice.
Best of all, there is a support group, both online and offline. No matter where you live, you can reach them online. There are also meetings held in different towns across the state and you are welcome to attend them no matter where you had your surgery. In fact, you are welcome to attend if you are just thinking about having the surgery (bring your friends and family, too).
I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Shin to any person considering this surgery. Their clinic has an informative seminar each month where you can meet Dr. Shin and see an entire presentation on the surgery and the lifestyle changes that come with it. To check on the next seminar, see his website at http://www.lifequestwv.com/
Please understand that these are my observations and views based on my personal experience with Dr. Shin. If you are considering surgery, do all the research about your surgeon you can. Weigh the good and the bad, because no doctor is perfect. I recommend attending seminars and support group meetings, if you can. Talk to other patients who have had the surgery. Good luck making the decision that could change your life!
I met with Dr Shin on Dec 10,2003. He is very thorough and has reasured me in my decision. He did NOT skim the highlights, assuming I already understand. (Many doctors do this because I am a nurse.)He stressed the lifelong commitment to aftercare. He is also very kind down to earth. So far, I am very comfortable with Dr Shin as my surgeon.
My first impression of Dr. Shin was that he looked very young, but after hearing him speek about the surgery I knew that no matter what his age was, he was very confident about his job. Dr. Shin and the staff at Lifequest are wounderful, they sent all my paperwork into the insurance company. I did not do a thing. On a scale of 1 to 10 they get a 10!!!!! I would recommend they to anyone and everyone.
(10/13/2003) I went to the seminar on (I think it was 09/12/2003). I had my office consult on 10-08-2003. I went ahead and had my psych-evaluation on the same day. Normally you do not have them on the same day unless you request that. I have to drive about 2 1/2 hours to get there so that is why I had them both scheduled on the same day.
My first of impression of Dr. Shinn was wow he looks so young. I saw him first at the seminar that I attended and as soon as I heard him begain talking I thought to myself that is the Doctor that I am going to go to. He was so nice and informative. After my initial consultation my impression was even more of a wow. He talked to me like I had been one of his patients for a long time. He is definitley concerned about his patients. He makes sure that you have no other questions and makes sure that you fully understand the surgery. His office staff is wonderful. I enjoyed talking with everyone of them. I can not think of one thing that I did not like about Dr. Shinn he is very nice and handles himself very professionally without making a person feel intimidated. He talked about the risks as well as the benefits of the surgery and also the aftercare of the surgery. my overall rating of Dr. Shinn is two thumbs up!!!!!!! So far.
Hopefully, I will be hearing something very soon about my insurance(if they accepted it or deniied it)
Dr. Shin was very nice. He emphasized alot about the after care and made me feel as if he would be there for me. He addressed all of the ins and outs of the surgery both pros and cons. He made no bones about the fact that there was a risk including death. Bedside manor was wonderful, I hope he stays that way even after the surgery.
Dr. Shin was a wonderful person, very thoughtful and very caring.Explained everything about the surgery and what was expected of me before and after the surgery.
The office staff at life quest is super. Ann is wonderful as are all of the others that i have had the pleasure to speak with. Thanks for the kindness and understanding. Dr. Shin stressed that this is a life long commitment and the after care is very important and they will be around for us for the rest of our lives.
On a scale of 1-10 he is a 20. Thanks Dr. Shin and lifequest.
I am 5 days post-op and i am more convinced than ever i made the right choice with LifeQuest and Dr. Shin what a fine caring man and Dr. he has compassion for the obese patients and a wonderful bedside manner.I would reccommend LifeQuest to anyone. Please have no fear when you put your life in their hands. Because they have what it takes to help you through this stage in your life. God has truly blessed us with a fine man.
On my first visit I was unsure about Dr. Shin. When I saw him at the hospital before surgery, he calmed my fears and I felt very comfortable with him. The office staff have been very helpful and always polite and respectful. I appreciate that. I have no negative comments or dislikes about Dr. Shin. He is a very genuine, caring surgeon who has my health interests at heart. He is very encouraging to assist you with getting in your protein, never scolding, just gently prodding forward. The aftercare program at Lifequest is so structured it is unbelievable! The risks of surgery were approached matter-of-factly with all possibilities laid out on the table. I give Dr. Shin a five star (*****) rating. He is not lacking anything in either his surgical ability or bedside manner. I really respect and admire Dr. Shin and am thankful the Lord led me to him.
Sincerely,
Martha Roush
