Terrific--very responsive and reassuring, excellent educational program and superior staff, extensive aftercare program, reviews risks multiple times to assure patient understanding, good bedside manner and sense of humor, staff in office and hospital hand-selected and knowledgable. My first choice for patient referrals in my state--other surgeons are excellent as well, with good programs, but this program was the best all around, in my opinion. At this time I have nothing negative to say about the program or the staff--the only bad things I can think of to say at present are that I wish I could have had my surgery on a Friday, and the chairs at the hospital are extremely uncomfortable.

I absolutely adore Dr. Shin. He is the sweetest, kindest man and I wouldn't have had anyone else do my surgery. I think the world of him.

I realize that this review seems "suspect" according to the guidelines, but I honestly do not have anything negative to say about Dr. Shin. He has been very supportive during this process and he speaks with you not to you which I appreciate. He explains in terms that I can understand (which isn't always easy) and he seems to really care that this surgery helps you to make a change in your life.

Dr. Shin always reminds you that this surgery is only a tool- the beginning- of the work for you and that you cannot rely on the surgery to get you where you want to be. He makes sure at every appointment that you realize the not-so-easy job that you have in front of you for the rest of your life.

Dr. Shin is wonderful. He will answer all of your questions. His Staff is wonderful and will help you anyway they can. I give them a 10.

"No person can be the "best" in all aspects. Completely 100% positive reviews are generally less informative or even suspect." Is SO not true about Dr Shin! This man CARES about his patients and takes his time, never rushing, to discuss everything with you. Answers any and ALL questions with patience and never talks down to you. Treats you not only with respect but kindness! I would, and do, recommend him to anyone wishing to have WLS. Dr. Shin, YOU ROCK!

My first impression of Dr. Shin was, "That can't be him, he's not old enough to be a Dr". He spoke at the seminar I went to in July. He is a very knowledgeable Physician and we are blessed to have him in our area.
Info for future patients: Dr. Shin has very good bedside manners. He came in to see me before going into surgery to reassure me everything would be alright. He held my hand and made me feel so much better and I knew God would be there to guide him and bring me out ok.
Doctor's office staff: were very kind and accomodating. Different one's stopped by my room to talk and to see if I needed anything. Thanks to all of them, sorry if I was such a bother and a pain.

Dr. Shin. I can't say enough great things about this man.

1.First Impression: Very professional while at the same time personable.

2. Lasting Impression: Still the same since I had my surgery!

3. Staff: No problems. His nurse Angie is great!

4. Least Likes: Current office is at CAMC Memorial's Professional Center. Parking is a bit cramped.

5. Future Patients: Expect a Dr. that will expect you to keep up your end of the bargin.

6. Aftercare: The focus is on the long term and not just immediate results.

7. Aftercare Structured: YES

8. Risks: We discussed them in advance to make sure I know what was out there.

9. Rating: 10. With an elective surgery that is catagorized as "Major Surgery", I chose my surgeon carefully. He is the only person I would suggest.

My first impression of Dr. Shin was that he seemed kind and very concerned about me as a patient. He was informative, answered all my questions and was never annoyed with any of them. :o)

My impression hasn't changed. I feel that he is very experienced and I have no concern that he will take care of me.

His office staff is incredible. They have to be the nicest group of people that I have ever met. They all act like family and include the patient in that family. They are all knowledgable and informative.

Future patients should know that he is exceptional at what he does!

His emphasis on aftercare is stressed at least a million times. It is extremely important to him that you follow-up in the future. He makes it perfectly clear that this is a "Tool" and you are ultimitely the one that will make it happen and keep the weight off. He insists that you continue to follow with him to make certain that you maintain the weight loss. He has a very structured aftercare program that if used correctly will achieve and maintain weightloss.

Dr. Shin was upfront and honest about the risk of surgery. He offered national statistics as well as his personal ones.

Overall....he gets an A+ :o)

Surgical competence and bedside manner in my opinion are equally important...he has both!
