Dr. Capella is THE BEST in the business. Yeah, I had him do my surgery, but only after I had known him for over 25 years! I have been doing his teaching illustrations, surgical illustrations, diagrams and his logos too, since the early 80s, and I am still with him, as an artist AND now, as his patient too. I had the surgery done in 1998 and I have never been a happier person! Dr. Capella is thorough and patient, he'll always take the time to explain anything you don't understand. I have recommended him to many of my friends who have successfully completed surgery and who are now happily experiencing life as they never have before.
Dr. Capella is a MOST TALENTED SURGEON, he is an "artist" in his field and the best you can find from coast to coast.
What was your first impression of him/her?
He is very business like in his approach. Very thorough in his orientation. Willing to answer all questions.
How would you describe his/her office staff?
His office staff is very helpful but very busy and don't return phone calls. That makes it necessary for me to call repeatedly until I get a person and not a voice mail.
How much does he emphasize aftercare?
Very thorough....is concerned about the diet and exercise part of the program
Does he have a structured aftercare program?
He encourages and expects you to follow his program.
How did he address the risks of surgery?
He was open and honest and frank about the risks.
I liked Dr. Capella from the beginning and have ever since our first meeting. His office staff is caring, especially Melba who handles insurance.
I really didn't have any complications from the surgery, I did make one call to Dr. Capella because of some pain that I was feeling in an area I thought shouldn't be affected by the surgery. He returned my call almost immediately.
His aftercare is great and he has 2 support group meetings that his patients are welcome to go to.
He was a very nice kind doctor, but very professional. As time went on I found out he was a bit stricter with guidelines than some of the other doctors, but it seemed to be a plus. Better caucious, than uncaring and letting bad things happen. His office staff was extremely nice and accomidating. Dr Capella makes sure you understand how important it is to heal properly and it's up to you to do it exactly the way he says too. After seeing other people in the hospital having different types of surgery that are similar, I wouldn't change my procedure or doctor at all. I was recovering and walking better than the rest of the people there. I'm far from an exception to the rule. I just did what I was told and didn't make excuses.
Dr. Capella is the best in the business, office staff can be a little rough at times , but they're extemely busy. They don't give you much aftercare. I learned more on here.He does address the risks beforehand, which are the lowest around for him, since I think he's been doing this surgery longer than anyone else.
My first impression of Dr. Capella was a good one. I went to one of his informational meetings with my husband and after the meeting made an appointment for a consultation. The office staff seem very nice but a bit unorganized. I was also there for a while before I actually got in to see Dr. Capella. I was very pleased with the consultation and got a surgery date right there and then but for 3 to 4 months down the line. In the meantime I took the time to find out as much as I could about Dr. Capella, his patrice and the hospital. I found out that Dr. Capella has done over 3,000 operations and that he is one of the most experienced doctors in the whole tri-state area in gastric bypass surgery. I am hoping that this proves to be true after my surgery 6/12/03!
I think Dr. Capella was absolutely wonderful. I feel so comfortable with him. He is a miracle worker. I believe he trully cares for all his patients and his entire staff was very helpful. I had my consult in March 2002 and was approved by my insurance about (2) weeks later. I had my surgery May 23, 2002 and have lost about 130 lbs. Still have 40 to go.
Dr. Capella came VERY highly recommended by a friend who performed the procedure on his wife, daughter & other family members. My first impression was that he was honest about the procedure. He explained everything thoroughly, including all of the complications & risks associated with the surgery. I was confident that all would go smoothly and decided that he was the doctor for me.
His staff was totally professional & friendly. The only bad thing about everything leading up to my surgery was the long waiting time for scheduled surgery, which was about 6 or 7 months from initial consultation.
Anyone considering this surgery and who consults with Dr. Capella should know that you will be in fine hands with him.
