Rafael Capella Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

My first impression of Dr. Capella was that he was a very caring and kind person I have not had a personal appointment with him as of yet, (I was at a group consultation) but from talking with him during the meeting this is the way I felt. He has had quite a bit of experience in this field of surgery (he has done more in the New york New Jersey area than the others) I am looking forward to my appointment with him in January 2000.
HAD MY APPOINTMENT WITH DR. CAPELLA, HE IS REALLY A VERY CARING MAN. HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING TO YOU. YOU CAN ASK HIM ANYTHING, YOU DON'T EVEN WORRY ABOUT SOUNDING LIKE A FOOL WITH SOME OF YOU QUESTIONS BECAUSE HE MAKES YOU FEEL SO RELAXED AND HE DOES NOT JUDGE YOU BECAUSE OF YOUR WEIGHT. I WAS IN HIS OFFICE AND I HAD HIS FULL ATTENTION FOR OVER 2 HOURS.
HIS OFFICE STAFF IS VERY PERSONABLE AND VERY HELPFUL THEY EXPLAIN EVERYTING TO YOU AND ALSO ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE THEY HELP WITH ALSO AND YOU CAN EVEN CALL THEM WHEN YOU HAVE QUESTIONS AND THEY ARE HELPFUL AND NOT ANNOYED.

First impression was good. Made to feel comfortable about decision. Knowledgeable office staff. However, the only negative aspect is their post-op followup leaves something to be desired. They leave many unanswered questions. Seems to me that they were VERY interested in me before & during my operation, but forgot about my care soon after I left the hospital. As a surgon, he's one of the very best, but I feel he would do much more business if he expanded his practice to an office in NYC or had Sat. or late night hours.

Dr. Capella was wonderful. I went to him because I believe he is the best in the country. He had an excellent reputation.

My surgery went very well, no complications.

His staff was also very good. I didn't have to do anything with the insurance company, they handled everything.

Overall, I think he is an excellent doctor and I would (and have) recommend him highly.

My first impression of Dr. Capella was through the descriptions of two close friends that had the surgery with him--they both felt he was warm and competent, and felt assured that they had received good care. So, when I got brave enough and went to see him, I was surprised to find him to be not the most congenial. I am a single mom and could only be in the office that day with my kids in tow...and they had me waiting and waiting and waiting, which was really upsetting! (It was a two hour drive for us to get there). This time around, when I went to see him and submitted to my new insurance, my impression was different. He was friendly, informative and positive. And even if he wasn't...I have two close friends who are freed from their obesity forever and feel great for the first time in their lives! That's the best reference I could imagine!

Dr. Capella was very honest with me about the procedure, the risks, and he helped me set realistic expectations for weight loss. I think that I am best off if I am armed with the truth, and he certainly conveys honesty!

I originally called Dr. Capellas' office to inquire about AVGB, the secretary being new, wasn't sure what I was talking about. She told me Dr. Capella would return my call! I really didn't expect to hear from him, but I did, later that same day! He spent time explaining the surgery he does (like the Fobi), asked me several questions about my situation, and invited me to the support group at Hackensack Hosp. I was very impressed with his experience (approx. 2000 surgeries) as well as his bedside manner. I think he's the one for me.

Ecellent surgeon. Very caring & attentive to his patients.
