I love Dr. Jones and his staff. He has a quiet confidence and appears to have a genuine interest in his patients. I immediately felt at ease with him and his staff. I suppose that everything happens for a reason...I was disappointed with having to seek another surgeon, but I am lucky to be in the hands of Dr. Jones. I can't say enough good things about him. Thus far, I have experienced nothing negative.
I'm changing doctors after learning that Dr. Bellanger has moved his practice to NeWeigh which costs $36,500 non-negotiable and paid in advance. I have an appt. with Dr. Jones who comes highly recommended.
I've had 2 visits with Dr. Bellanger. He has done a thorough job of providing much information and answering any questions so that his patients are making an informed decision. So far, I've enjoyed talking to him and his staff. He has written a letter to my insurance company. We are now in the waiting phase.
I have the initial consultation scheduled for 1/21/03. So far the recep/sec. was very nice over the phone. There was an opening in the very next consultation, so it was scheduled for one week after my phone call. Quick!
Well, the consultation went well. As others have said, first a meeting together, then individually. Dr. Jones seems very knowledgable and down to earth. He addressed the risks very fairly and was open to all questions. He seems very positive about the surgery and the health benefits one might gain after the surgery. I liked everyone in the office. They are very friendly.
Well, I've decided to go for it. I called the office and it's scheduled for Feb. 21st. This is one month after the initial consultation! Wow!
Dr. Jones was very layed back & easy to talk with. He was really educated about the procedure, and answered any concerns. Over time, I have really grown to love & care for Dr. Jones. His office staff is always friendly no matter how many times I called. I guess the thing I like most about him is his prompt return to your phone calls. They should know that if they want an experienced surgeon, one who is also caring & compassionate to his patient's needs, then Dr. Jones is the one for them. After care is really empasized as I have already had 2 follow up visits since my surgery 5 weeks ago. He was also made sure I understood the risks of surgery before hand. Overall I would rate him as excellent, the best in the business. His bedside manner, surgical competence, and general overall manner was exceptional.
Dr. Jones is the most experienced Doctor in my area. He has been doing this surgery for 15 years. He is very nice and knowledgable. I have a friend that had gastric bypass by him and she couldn't stop bragging about how she loved him. His office staff were very helpful and supportive. I would have liked more information from them about what to expect on the first few days after surgery. I heard others at the support group say they were very nausated. I would tell others to come prepared with 2 letters from other Doctors supporting the physical need for this weight loss surgery. I did. They make it clear over and over how important aftercare is as well as an ongoing support group. They do have a structrured aftercare program. The risks were upfrontly addressed. They scared me. I am a big chicken anyway. I know the benefits outweigh the risks to me now. The health risks later would be worse to me. I would rate Dr. Jones and his staff with a 10+ on the 1--10 scale.
I was very pleased with Dr. Jones. He seemed to really care about his patients. I moved out of state a few months after my surgery, therefore was unable to keep using him as my doctor. The doctor I was referred to in Michigan wasn't as supporting or understanding and I no longer see him either. Dr. Jones seemed to be concerned for aftercare, and gave me some information, but without support I haven't been very successful in following it. Dr. Jones addressed the risks of surgery in a way that wasn't frightening, but was straightforward about the dangers and complications that could occur. I had no complications during or after my surgery. Overall, I would rate Dr. Jones as a very good doctor with good bedside manner and surgically competent.
My first impression of Dr. Jones was that he is a busy man and that he is one of the best there is. After surgery, my first impression was only confirmed.
The office staff was helpful, even though I pestered them to death during the lead time waiting on insurance approval.
The only bad thing I can say about Dr. Jones is that, like every surgeon, he is so far booked and you have such a long waiting period. In his defense, he has hired a new staff member that should help ease his load a little.
From what I can tell so far, he does have a structured after care program. I can say that he thouroughly discussed the risk and possible complications of surgery and emphasises that it is a major surgery w/ life altering changes.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Jones as the leading bariatric surgeon around. Dr. Jones does things just a little different than some surgeons and my incision line looks wonderful compared to some of my friends.
I would have to say that his surgical competence highly out ways his bedside manner but, BOTH ARE GREAT!
I would highly recommend Dr. Jones to anyone and have recommended him to some of my friends already.
Good Luck to anyone who is thinking of having this surgery
My first impression of Dr. Jones was a mild mannered, gentle person, with a genuine concern for his patients. This impression stayed true throughout my surgical experience. The office staff is very personable. With as many patients as Dr. Jones see's, they are fast to learn your name and make you feel right at home. The thing I liked least was the waiting time involved to get an initial appointment and surgical date (each over 4 months wait) but this is not without reason. Dr. Jones is by far the best in the area, and his waiting list is representative of his reputation for being THE doctor to see. The initial consultation appointment begins as a group meeting with 6-8 potential patients. He goes over in great detail the possible complications, and is very forthcoming about his successes as well as failures/complications.The aftercare is not as structured as some I have heard of. You remain on a full liquid/mushy diet for 6 weeks and then advance to a full diet. He did not recommend any type of protein drink like some doctors. I was given written information about diet and activity progression both at my initial appointment, and immediatley after surgery in the hospital. I returned to the office at 2 weeks post-op and 5 weeks post op. My next appointment is at approx 5 months post-op. The only part I have been a bit dissapointed in was the fact that Dr. Jones was scheduled for a vacation out of the country shortly after my surgery. Therefore I saw him on the day I was sent home from the hospital, but have seen only the office staff at my 2 week and 5 week appointments. (Ofcourse he had another surgeon covering for him should I have developed any complications...and like I said, his office staff is wonderful...especially Trish his NP!)
Overall, Dr. Jones was absolutely wonderful. He has a wonderful reputation in the area for his surgical skill. I'm a nurse manager at the hospital he practices in, and was fully aware of his ability! His bedside manner was excellent. He's is very kind and compassionate, and quick to pull up a chair to sit and visit. I recommend him to anyone considering WLS as an option.
Open RNY scheduled or 05/20/02 at Doctor's Hospital in Shreveport, LA. Met with Dr. Jones on 2 occasions prior to surg; very likable and spent time with me. Discussed the porcedures, pros and cons. Since ia am an RN, our discussion was failrly lengthy. Due to cardio-neurogenic syncope, my electrocardiologist has reccomened a central line due to poor venous acess. Tis was ok's by anesthesia, and then changed by Dr. Jones. My IV came out within 6 hrs of surg and was not restarted, causing me to have a significant drop in BP (70/30, 60/30) and could have been prevented by following the cardiologist recommendations of 3000cc NS per 24hrs. Pain control was inadequate. Doctor's Hospital staff was excellent. No surgical post-op complications. i feel Dr. Jones is an excellent surgeon, but has turned most of his uncomplicated cases over to his new nurse practioner, who I feel is still learning. I do not go back to see Dr. Jones until October, almost 5 months afte surg and feel this is a litle long for a post-op check up. Over all, felt very comfortable with surgical skills, but am a little leary of the aftercare. Won't be able to give full report until appt in October. Over all, excellent results; cont with good wt loss. Pleased and would do it all over again!
