My first impression of Dr. Ameri...compassionate, intelligent. He took his time with me, I never felt rushed. He answered all my questions honestly. I am looking forward to a wonderful patient/doctor relationship with Dr. Ameri.

Dr. Ameri's office staff: Linda his secretary and Louise his nurse are wonderful women! You almost look forward to your doctor visits...you are welcomed by Linda with a big smile (even though she is incredibly overworked!) Louise is just as wonderful...a bit more serious, but then so is her job. I felt very "calm" after meeting with Louise...she put all my fears to rest...a difficult thing to do.

I liked Dr Ameri right away. He really seemed like a all right guy.

Dr Ameri was very caring, concerned and attentive to me when I first met him. He took the time to answer each of my questions in detail. His nurse, Louise is incredible. She'll be in the OR with me. It's very comforting to know someone will be there who's travelled this journey with so many others. Louise reviewed the risks of the surgery. Although no one wants to hear that there are risks, she's very open and honest. She set me at ease right away.

Linda, the office manager, is unbelievably helpful and patient. She handled all the insurance correspondence, and kept me informed through the entire process. She has such a gift to offer these patients.

My first impression of Dr. Ameri....compassionate! He is a wonderful, caring man and I immediately felt at ease. My first visit to the office was wonderful. The first face I saw was Linda, the office manager who immediately made me feel like an old friend! I was taken to a room and met with Louise who is Dr. Ameri's assistant. She spent a great deal of time with me and explained everything that I would need to do prior to any surgery date being scheduled. She is extremely knowledgable, helpful and has a very calming presence that made this patient feel much more relaxed, because let's face it...although we are all looking forward to this procedure....it is still major surgery, so having a team that is as friendly, professional and comes across as soothing..is such a comfort! There was nothing I liked least about this wonderful crew. Dr Ameri is such a delightful man. I have researched this procedure extensively and have found Dr. Ameri to be the best! This was evident at my first and second meeting with him. He spent an extensive amount of time with me, answered every question (and there were quite a few). I have NEVER felt rushed by anyone in this office!

I have been researching Gastric Bypass for a year. I have called Mass General, Newton-Wellesley, NEMC, and several other facilities, however I was treated like a number. I called Dr. Ameri's office after reading about him on the website, and am I glad I did! My first call was with Linda, she kept me on the phone for about 30 minutes explaining how things work. She was the first person to make me feel like a normal person! The I met with Louise and Dr. Ameri. Both were fantastic. Again I felt very comfortable. The only downfall to the office is that they are very busy. It is hard to get a hold of people there and scheduling is tight. I wish they had someone in the office to handle just the obesity cases. Other than that I am very happy with them and would recommend anyone there.

Dr. Ameri was great! He is very supportive, knowledgable and highly respected. He has a great office staff in Linda and Louise. There were only two items I thought could have been better 1) scheduleing took a long time and was bumped once at the last minute and 2) the pre-op requirements are intense, and they really don't help you out with them (i.e. referrals, etc...)and if you don't get them done, you don't get the operation. I felt as though this created a real demand on work-time and had to use lots of time out to run around for appt's, following-up for letters, etc..
I am 5 days post-op, so I really cannot comment on aftercare yet, but I do know they give you a detailed set of booklets to help you understand the requirements and nutritional guidelines. I know he is working to create a more structured and wholistic support approach including aftercare than they currently have.
He explains the risks completely and very matter-of fact - although he is very confident in his own abilities. He told me to not worry about the surgical risks, but instead to focus on what I can control, which was helpful.
Overall I would give Dr. Ameri a very high rating and would recommend him to others.

I posted a review before but it didn't seem to go in. I would like to say that Dr. Ameri is awesome. He did surgery on my daughter when she was only six years old (for her appendix) and he later did surgery on my husband for gird. Both operations were fine and he was so good to them through it all. He’s an amazing surgeon and I consider him to be brilliant. His bedside manor is awesome. He is a kind person, very caring and has no problems talking to you and making you feel at ease. His assistants are equally as wonderful. Linda & Louise manage a very busy office by themselves and do an incredible job at it. Louise works right along side Dr. Ameri and is very knowledgeable of the whole procedure. They make you aware of the risks and make sure you are well aware of any complications but at the same time they also are encouraging. I am grateful that we have such a place so close by. It is so good that Dr. Ameri does the gastric bypass laproscopically. It is very hard to find a surgeon who does the surgery this way. It makes it better that he is such a great guy and that he has Linda & Louise (wonderful people) to work along side him and help run things smoothly. They are very busy and yet they try hard to get everyone in as soon as possible and work with people as best as they can to please everyone. I'm sure that is difficult at times to do. I can't wait for my surgery. If you are searching for an awesome surgeon, he's the man.

I have only awesome things to say about Dr. Ameri and his assistant Louise. They have been so awesome and so kind and now that I am post-op I can't wait to loose the pounds. The procedure went awesome and even though I am only a week out I am feeling better and better every day. Dr. Ameri did my procedure Laproscopically and he is the best when it comes to any procedure being done Laproscopically. I love the way they treated me, I love the way they handle things and I am forever greatful that he was my surgeon.

Dr. Ameri was confident, reassuring, knowledgeable, and charming to boot! I liked his easy going manner in combination with his air of confidence. Although I had some pretty controversial questions, he answered them assuredly and with passion. He is straightforward and he likes an educated patient.

As far as his staff, Louise is great. Many people say she frightens them, but she really just presents the facts. I like that. As for Linda, I have mixed feelings. I know she can be very nice and will answer questions when she has time, but I always feel like I am bothering her (and it's not me just being paranoid--she told my doctor I called a lot, which really wasn't true-I called with legimate concerns), plus, she can be a little impatient sometimes. Just have everything you need when you need it. I think Linda is a kind person, just very overworked.

Overall, I will say I was initally concerned with the small office and Dr. Ameri's lack of experience (only 75) until I did a background check and found he was a well respected member of the board of bariatrics, well respected by his peers and collegues in Massachusetts, and had been doing lap surgery for over 20 years.

The small setting has it's inconveniences (no doing everything at once, the wait, rushing, etc.), but there is nothing like the one on one treatment vs. the assembly line service other, larger places offer.

I met with Dr. Ameri on 4/12/02. I feel like I am SO lucky! Dr. Ameri and his staff (Louise & Linda) are caring and confident. Any concerns I had were put to rest by the time I left their office. They spent so much time with me. It was a really nice experience. They are professional, but you still feel comfortable enough to ask questions & you know they really CARE!!! Right now I am waiting approval from Aetna, and I am SOOOOO impatient!! LOL! It is a good thing that Linda & Louise know how to calm me down. Without them I think I would be nervous and anxious all the time. I know this is a life journey, and I am grateful that I have found Dr. Ameri, Louise and Linda to help me through. I couldn't do it without them. :) Ê Ê -- Brenda Pearlstein

Before I start on the tremendous success story from my surgery, let me tell you who I was prior to January 17, 2002. I was a 51 yr old man 5'6 tall and fluctuating around 250 pounds. I was a type II diabetic(at one point 525 after fasting), depressed, and told that I was bipolar and would be on Lithium for the rest of my life. I had severe shakes and sweats from all my medications the doctors had me on. My triglycerides hit 3400. that's right 3400 after fasting. All of my testing was done at the Joslin Diabetic Center in Boston. I had to take 26 pills daily plus 2 insulin shots (80 units and 100 units).

Here is a list of the pills I was taking daily:
Niaspan, lopitor, glucophage, allpourinol, lasix, tricor, glucotrol XL, avandia, empirin, inderal, prinival, prilosec, sonata, celexa, pamelor, xenical and 2 humulin shots a day.

Sleeping was a nightmare. I didn't go out. I didn't socialize and I never wanted to meet anyone. It also helped end a 9 yr relationship with a very nice lady. Life sucked.

Then I heard about Dr. Ameri. At first he was concerned about doing the surgery because of all my meds, especially the lithium. Thank God he agreed to operate. Besides being a great surgeon he is a true gentleman with great compassion and understanding. He really cares for his patients and puts his heart and soul into doing his best for you. For this I will be eternally grateful for giving me a whole new life.

Now is the miracle. Today is May 16, 2002, four months after surgery. I'm 52 yrs old, still 5'6 but everything else has changed. I now weigh 166 lbs, down about 80 lbs. From 26 pills a day I now take 1 Prilosec, 1 Flintstone vitamin, and 3 tums. No Lithium and No Insulin. My glucose level stays around 110 to 118. My depression is gone. Mentally my thinking has never been clearer. I was on Lithium since 1980. I got myself into the habit of working out everyday and it makes me feel great. I go out and socialize now, I just went to my first singles dance. Meeting new people is now exciting. My self esteem is through the roof. Something I never had. People now see me for me and not my size. My energy level is unstoppable. I can't stop looking for things to do. I'll go anyplace and do anything at the drop of a hat.

Again I must thank God for Dr. Ameri. He has given me a whole new exciting life to look forward to. God Bless You Dr. Ameri and your fantastic staff, Louise and Linda for helping so many of us have a much happier, healthier, and fuller life.
