My consult with Dr. Ameri is not scheduled until September, but I attended one of his support groups. The group was very informative, and my first impression of Dr. Ameri was positive. Will update after consult.
9/12.....
I finally had my initial consult with Dr. Ameri. He and his nurse Louise were wonderful and made me feel at ease. It was a short visit, as I had already attended several support group meetings, which were very informative. He is very open to questions and seems to genuinely care about his patients.
I have not yet had my first consult with Dr. Ameri--scheduled for October 17th. I made the appointment in April and have been going to all of Dr. Ameri's support group meetings ever since. He is absolutely wonderful and I feel extremely comfortable and confident that he is the right surgeon for me. I trust him completely. I look forward to a long and healthy relationship with Dr. Ameri and his associates!
I wanted to update this...My journey started in 12/02 with my consult to Surgery on July 10, 2003. I will always believe I am very lucky to have found Dr Ameri and Louise. From all of our visits and support meetings I have learned lots and established a level of comfort with this team ! My insurance and date-setting processes went as planned. Linda at the Office always helpful and you can hear the smile in her voice. On surgery day I met my team right away as I was the first case of the day. They both reassured me that I would be fine as the tears of fear rolled down my face. Louise held my hand until she had to go and the rest went very well. I did encounter a 4 hr surgery (a little longer than expected) but was immediately told in the PACU that I was doing fine and all went well. Dr Ameri's bedside manner was gentle and understanding and his smile made me feel so calm. The most wonderful news came from the staff at the hospital who made it known to me how much respect they have for him and that really meant a lot !! I am looking forward to a lengthy relationship and feel so thankful !!
I love Dr. Ameri! He is a compassionate, very caring man who is clearly committed to helping those of us who want to have this surgery. His staff is the same and they all have close and supportive working relationships with each other. Their standards are rigorous and you had best be sure you want this and are willing to do whatever he requires of you. If you do what he tells you to do, you will be successful.
I finally had my first consult with Dr. Ameri on Friday, April 4th. My appt was for 12:30 but unfortunately there was a surgical emergency which put him behind & I didn't get in til 2:30. Normally I would have been very upset at having to wait but I was so excited to finally be here it didn't matter. I saw Louise first & we went over all the info re: surgery, risks, post-op diet, etc. She was very open & helpful. When she was done, Dr. Ameri came in & was absolutely wonderful! He was easy to talk to, he listened well & gave me a chance to ask all my questions. Overall, my experience was very positive. Dr. Ameri is kind, caring, & a true gentleman. I know I made the right choice in picking him for this very big decision in my life.
I'd have to agree with the great things that Dr. Ameri's other patients have said about him. He is very kind, he does not rush you through, he takes his time to answer your questions and address your concerns. His staff is the same. Louise, his nurse, meets with you first during your consultation. The first thing she lets you know is that she is not only in the office but will be with Dr. Ameri in the operating room too. I think it's great that you get to build a relationship with the nurse as well as the surgeon from day one. Since my consultation I've spoken to Linda, the office manager, a couple of times and she too shares the patience and professionalism as the rest of the staff.
My first visit was November '02. I met him and his staff. I really liked him. The staff is very informative and helpful from Linda the secretary to Louise the PA. My overall impression was that these were people who really cared and understood the morbidly obese. As an educator, I was very impressed and pleased that it is very important for each of their patients to understand the procedure, the insurance process, and the aftercare schedule. You are required to bring your info packet every visit and take a quiz during the second vist. They impress upon you that this procedure is very serious. All of the risks are covered and the risks do give you pause. I now have to get an ultra sound on my gallbladder and visit cardiac and pulmonary specialists. I am scheduled to see him until 3 years post op. It seems that no stone is left unturned. I feel very confident that this will be a success. I feel blessed to have had him reccommended to me by my PC. So many things have fallen into place (for example, his office is in my hometown and the hospital is just down the street!)that I really feel that this is the right thing for me. I believe that Dr. Ameri possesses both great surgical skill (people rave about him) and he's very charming.
<p><h3>Surgeon Information</h3> </p>
<p>Dr. Ameri, Stoneham, MA. First appointment: 2/2/01 </p>
<p>I liked Dr. Ameri when I met him. He is amiable and courteous, and very knowledgeable about the subject of gastric bypass surgery. </p>
<p>He was very thorough in his description of the surgery, how it would affect my eating habits, both by limiting my intake and in regards to malabsorption. </p>
<p>I was given lots of information on the surgery itself, and the recovery process, and what will be expected of me. </p>
<p>All in all, it was a very thorough & comprehensive visit. I am quite pleased:)</p>
<p>Louise is Dr. Ameri's private nurse. She assists him during surgery. As she told me, "just look for the green goggles!"</p>
<p>Louise stayed by my side throughout the entire surgery. It was she that held my hand and spoke the Healing Statements I had prepared for her.</p>
<p>She was also the first person I saw when I woke up after surgery. It was a very comforting feeling to know I wasn't being shuffled around to different people.</p>
<p>Linda is the office manager. An absolute life-saver when it came down to the insurance packet, and last-minute planning. She was and continues to be willing to talk to me on the phone whenever I call, no matter how busy she is at the moment.</p>
I had to wait 4 months for my intial visit. Both Linda and Louise were great. I wish they still had an office in Cambridge as it was a long ride to Stoneham. It was worth the ride. Dr Ameri made me relax and answered all my questions. Now that my surgery date has been scheduled my biggest concern is not gaining any weight. As he has told me the surgery will be cancelled if I gain any weight. This is the hard part.
