Dr. K did my open RNy on May 20, 2003. When I went in for my consult Dr. K answered all my questions. My first impression of him was a good one. He was a bit on the businesslike side but I think you have to be this way in the begining. Over time my impression of him got even better. He was very friendly the day of surgery and made me feel at ease. His after care was wonderful as well. The office staff at BTC in Langhorne is fabulous. I would recomend anyone thinking of WLS to check them out. I would never have made it in a "normal" hospital. The nursing staff is over the top. They couldn't have been any nicer. I got the feeling they really did care about me and my health. Everyone at BTC emphasizes the aftercare program they provide. This is another reason that I would recommend BTC over anyone else. Dr. K made sure that I understood ALL of the risks of WLS. We talked in detail of the risks. We wieghed the pros and cons. I never felt like I was being pushed in any way to have this done there. Overall I would rate Dr.K a perfect 10. His surgical competence and bedside manner are great. He is a real joker at times.
I was very happy with him, he seemed very friendly and very informative. I was very happy with the way things went with my first visit. I agree with the comments of the receptionist, was not very friendly at all. Seemed like she was bothered by having to do things. Office was very nice and I'm happy with the fact that the only thing done in the facility is geared toward the surgery.
The only thing I'm leary about is having open surgery vs lap. Risks were well explained and I am aware of risks.
I have only met this surgeon on one occation, (my initial consultation). Which was at the Bariatric Treatment Center in Langhorne, PA., he was very nice and explained everything in detail and seemed genuinly concerned about my health issues.
Sent me for all of the appropriate tests through my own doctors, ie. heart and sleep study.
THE ONE THING THAT THEY DIDN'T COVER WAS THE FACT THAT THE BARIATRIC TREATMENT CENTER IN LANGHORNE, PA DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHEILD.
That first visit was in May 2002. Here I am nearly a year later with all of my testing completed and all docs agreeing that it is medically necessary, BS/BC approval to find out that the BTC has been dragging their feet getting into the BS/BC network. This I got directly from BS/BC. They kept telling me "any day now", "still waiting to hear", and I find out that they never even applied until December 9, 2002.
I have contacted other doctors in the area but ofcourse the waiting list is months long and all of these tests will no longer be valid.
I really had a lot of faith in the BTC. The whole idea of it being a facility that does nothing else but deal with WLS sounded great to me and it is a beautiful new center.
I am really quite upset about this, I thought that I would have had the surgery by now.
I guess that I can do nothing but hope and pray that they will come through and all will go well.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd certainly be glad to hear them.
God Bless and Good Luck to All,
LouAnn
I had my consult on 1/31/03. Dr. Kaczmarski (at BTC in Langhorne, PA) was very professional and matter-of-fact. He didn't seem overly warm, but I didn't feel uncomfortable. I'm not looking for a buddy, but a good surgeon. He has done 1000+ procedures, which gives me confidence in his abilities, i.e. he has probably seen almost every possible scenario in the operating room. While I felt a little rushed, that was more me because I knew that he had another patient waiting for him. But he took his time and answered all of my many questions. I think his explanation of the complications was pretty cursory, but I have done a lot ofd research on my own so I think I'm well aware of the "ugly" side to WLS. Now that I've been researching WLS deaths and reading some of the scarier personal stories out there, I probably have a few more questions I would like to ask him. It can wait until after the insurance comes through and I'm approved. He emphasized the aftercare, which I think is nicely standardized at BTC. They don't just operate on you and then leave you to your own devices. I heard about the importance of taking vitamins, getting in protein, etc. Overall, I feel comfortable with Dr. Kaczmarski. FYI, the new facility in Langhorne is very nice. My only complaint was the receptionist was seriously slow, and appeared to be not all that happy about being at work. I was thinking that it would be important for the first contact at BTC to be an upbeat and cheerful person. Minor quibble.
Very young - seems very competent.
I believe that my first impression of Dr. Kaczmarski was correct.
Dr. Kaczmarski is on staff at the Bariatric Treatment Center in Langhorne, PA. This is a hospital that is totally committed to helping people lose weight surgically and the hospital and staff are incredible!!
Cold hands - LOL..
He's very business-like and that is good for some people, I think some people like to spend a little more "quality time" with the surgeon.
Since he is affiliated with the Bariatric Treatment Center, the aftercare is as important as the surgery to Dr. Kaczmarski.
The BTC has a very structured aftercare program - this was the main reason that we chose BTC over other alternatives.
The Dr. was very straight-forward about the risks and they were given to me in writing.
I'd give him a 9 and a half out of 10.
I prefer surgical competence - he's excellent there and his bedside manner is good as well.
My first impression of Dr Kaczmarski was that he was very friendly and very well informative. He explained everything in detail to me and my husband. The staff at the Langhorne BTC hospital were also very nice and polite.... The hospital was very well kept and very bright and beautiful.
Dr Kaczmarski has preformed over 1000 plus procedures and has been highly recommended to me by alot of his patients from the Ohio office.
In my book Dr Kacmarski is a 10+++++++++++
