He is very business like, but friendly. I didn't feel rushed at all by him in getting my questions answered. He was very intent on stressing that it is up to me to make it work and that he really doesn't want any complications. I can help prevent them by the thorough screening tests he asked for, and by exercising and eating 4-5 small meals a day, cutting out high fat and sugar, etc... As you have to do after surgery. I really like him, but now I have to wait on a sleep study before I can schedule surgery. I also like that they have a nutritionist to help you after surgery. Dr. Lane also told me how you still could gain weight if you don't eat right, so to realize it really is a change for the rest of your life and it's up to me to make it work. I don't know how is surgical competence it yet, but hoping to find out. The facility at BTC is well suited for the obese. I almost felt small in the large chairs. They also have a person speak to you who has completed surgery. It was nice to hear about the patient's experience (not all positive).
01/2004 - Only good things to say about him now that surgery is over. He really pushed the walking and breathing exercises while in the hospital and sat down and talked with me before surgery, while I was in pre-op. That was a great personal touch that helped me relax and answer all my last minute questions.

Dr. Lane was everything I thought he would be. He was very polite and took the time to answer all of my questions. I was explained all of the risks before having surgery. Dr Lane and BTC are very involved with aftercare. The nutritionalist calls you at every stage of your transition to real food to give you pointers and see if you have any questions. I would recommend Dr Lane to anyone considering having RNY surgery!

My first impression of Dr. Lane was a good one - even though I had to wait a long time to see him that first day. I was at the BTC about 3 hours for my first consult. They were sorry it took so long - they even refunded my fee! Dr. Lane did explain things well, I feel he answered my questions and concerns. He said nobody he operated on ever died - that made me feel much better!!!

My surgery is coming up on the 25th on Nov. I haven't seen Dr. Lane since the first day. So I let you know how his bedside manner and aftercare program are later.

He had a heavey work load which lead to me seeing a second doctor from time to time but I delt with it.
You are is safe hands with doctor Lane.
Everyone at BTC stressed aftercare.
BTC has a very detailed after care system with a 24 hour 800 number.
Doctor Lane was very up front with all of teh risks involved.
He would rank A++ in my book for overall care.
Both Doctor Lane's bedside manner and his surgical compitence would rank tied as number 1.

My initial thought of Dr. Lane was a good one. He was kind and very helpful in answering my questions. He seemed confident in the surgery, himself and in performing the open RNY (which put me at ease). Since I've only met with him one time I can't comment on much else, but hope to have the chance in the future. I'm very hopeful! Again, Keep your fingers crossed!

WOOHOO!
Just found out today that Dr. Lane will be performing the RNY (Lap). This is new to the BTC in ypsilanti however Dr. Lane has performed this surgery in the past. I'm so excited I could burst. I'm still waiting on a surgery date. Since this is a new procedure at this BTC operation dates are still being fit into the schedule.

I have to say the office staff has been incredible! I've been a royal pain in the behind trying to move this whole thing along. I so much appreciate their proffesionalism and patience with me!

I found Dr. Lane to be a very supportive and caring individual who didn't dismiss my concerns lightly. He answered all of my initial questions very honestly and respectfully. He let me come to my own decision to proceed with the RNY surgery and explained to me in full detail what the operation entailed, and the possible dangers could be. He also in the same light explained that he was a very thorough doctor and that before I would leave the operating room things would double checked to ensure that there were no problems. This put my mind to ease and with his direction I proceeded on the long journey of becoming medically certified to have the surgery performed. It took about a year from beginning to end to receive all of my medical clearances, but it was well worth it. I felt that the Doctor provided me with a 100% doctor and patient relationship, he showed true compassion before, during and after my surgery. I find him to be very supportive and I know that if I ever have any questions, all I have to do is call his office. Thanks to his support and the support of Baratric Treatment Centers I am now 122 pounds and I love life. I truly believe I am the person I was meant to be. I have escaped from the huge body that had held me captive for the last 20 years. At 122 pounds I can do anything and now enjoy everything that life has to offer me. Thank you Dr. Lane

Dr. Lane is a great Dr. he made me feel very comfortable at my consult. He had addressed the risks of the surgery since that was one of my biggest fears. He has not had the oppurtunity to do my surgery yet i am still waiting on the insurance approval but i know he will do great. One thing that put my mind at ease is that he had told me that he has done over 1,200 surgeries and that no one has died from it. Dr. Lane did tell me that he had some of his patients have a couple complications but the complications were caught and fixed without trouble. I can't wait til my surgery date.

My first impression of Dr. Lane was that he was pretty "business like". But after we began talking, he seemed more personable and friendly. The more I talked to him, the more I liked him.

He is soft spoken and did not rush us (husband and I) at all. He took all the time in the world to answer our questions and I felt like that at that time, I was the most important person on earth to him.

His office staff was OK. Not overy friendly, but I wasn't there to see them :)

The only thing about my visit I didn't like was that we had a long wait to see the Dr. He was over an hour late for our appointment.

He emphasizes aftercare a great deal and makes sure you understand that is VERY important in the success of your surgery. He lets you know that it is up to YOU to do the work. He stresses support groups.

He gave all the statistics of risk for the surgery but also let us know that TBC rates less than the national average in many categories. I felt my fears subsiding as he talked to us and feel that I will be in very experienced and excellent hands.

Overall on a scale of 1 - 10 I would rate him a 10.

Since I have not had my surgery yet, I can't rate his bedside manner. I think both surgical competence and bedside manner are important, but if I had to choose one, I would say surgical competence. I truly feel I have that with Dr. Lane.

My first impression is that Dr. Lane is a
professional intent on making sure you fully
understand what is going to happen to your
body during surgery and after surgery.
He also requests that you prepare for surgery
by following his advice to aid your body
in healing and minimizing the change prior to
the surgery. As instructed, I lift arm weights
30 minutes everyday and I am eating 5-6 small
meals which include or are protein based.
I believe this is to build up my lung capacity
and get use to eating multiple meals each day.
I find the exercise is easy and the constant
eating of food difficult.
I would rate Dr. Brian Lane as a knowledgeable
physician who will take the time to address
all issues in a relaxed manner.
I am now post surgical and I would like to add that my expectations of Dr. Lane have been met and surpassed.
My surgical scar is a thin line identical to a plastic surgeons ability. My care was excellent by the nursing staff. I am even more impressed by Dr. Lane post surgery. He is a caring down to earth person - a physician who is knowledgeable and careful.
You could not ask for better.
