The appointments at BTC were running one and a half hours late. The staff apologized and when I finally was able to meet Dr. Lane I was extremely impressed with him. I informed him that I had met with another doctor at BTC and was not comfortable with that particular doctor's manners. When I informed BTC that I was already in their system, I was told that since it was over two years that I would have to pay the consultation fee again. (Was not happy about that) But when I talked to the patient conselor she let the Dr. know that I had previously been through a consultation. Dr. Lane then waived the fee. (Hooray!) I informed Dr. Lane that I had been approved for the surgery two years earlier and gave him the reasons why I did not have the surgery. (wanted to finish my degree) He took the time to get to know both my husband and me. He stressed aftercare and I let him know that I already exercise and that I am committed to going through with this surgery. After this first meeting with him, I would recommend him to any patient that is considering surgery at BTC. I came prepared with a HUGE list of questions, and he took the time to answer all of them. I will let you all know how the surgery goes on May 31, 2002.

I have only met with Dr. Lane once at this time. He went over the procedure with me and answered any questions I asked. I'll know more about him after the sixth of March, when I go back for my pre-op tests.

The reason I picked Dr. Lane was because I was told that he had done laproscopic suragery previously and that was what I preferred. Unfortunately, this will not be possible as they still are not set up to do this surgery yet. He is a soft spoken man. He seems quite nice, but I'm not looking for nice (though it would be a plus)I'm looking for a good surgeon. I was quite pleased to talk with him and we were both able to discuss Dr. Blackburn of Boston. I had seen him on TV and Dr. Lane used to work in his department.
He is very oriented to aftercare. We talked about what was expected and he advised that exercise is very important (haven't we all heard that a thousand times!). I advised him that I walk my dog and he said that was good and that everyone should buy their dog a sweater that has COACH on the side!! He also explained that the exercise would gradually increase and he went into some detail regarding diet. Surgical risks were also addressed with me.

I saw Dr Lane on 2-21-02 and I really liked him. He explained everything and was very open and honest. He answered all of my questions, most of them before I even asked!
He does not sugar coat anything. He tells it like it is. Really I was impressed with him, and am very glad so far to have him for a suregon!!

Dr Lane was a bit formal, and completely professional, but he was easy to talk to. He answered my pre-made list of questions. He explained the procedure in great detail, accompanied by drawings. I didnt feel rushed, and he answered more questions as they popped into my head. He told me to think long and hard before making a decision. He gave me the address for this web site www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity so that I could explore and learn more on my own. They also gave me the phone numbers of obesity support groups in my area and recommended that I attend at least one prior to surgery. I was told to stop smoking, which I wasnt happy about, but I know he wants me to stop 6 weeks prior to surgery for my own benefit and to decrease risks. I feel very well informed and trust Dr Lanes ability.

my first impression of Brian Lane was good, but not informed enough, but part of that was my fault for not looking more into the surgery and also ALL the effects. I wish I would have known about this sight sooner!! I felt like I was well taken care of the first 2 days, after I was feeling alittle betterand up walking, I then felt alittle neglected, in a way and I had a problem with one of the nurses. All I have to say to whom ever is thinking about taking this big step, It will change your life forever and it isn't the easy way out like everyone says, a major adjustment to not only to yourself but also to your family!!!

Dr. Lane and his staff was very pleasant, direct and focus during my entire consultation. Dr. Lane explain in detail the surgery procedure (before/after) and answer all my questions. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

My over all visits with Dr Lane were that of excitement, exhileration, nervousness, and mostly great support. They have support groups for before during and after, and you can always find someone at the exact point your at to know what you are feeling. Medical assistants are kinda stiff, but you know, its not their job to be overly-friendly. Future patients should know that this is truly a TOOL, not in any way a FIX of anything emotional, mental, or anything of the sort. DO ALL requirements that your insurance wants, whether you want to or not. When you're post op, you will do a hind-ite and realize exactly WHY they are requirements PRE OP.
