Dr. Monk and his staff have been wonderful. When I first met with Dr. Monk he was very soft spoken. He answered all my questions. He told the risk involved with doing the surgery and not doing the surgery. I went thru all my pre-op testing and when it came to trying to get my surgery approved the first time my insurance company denied it because I needed to go thru 6 months of clinical weight lose classes. I went thru the classes and just got my surgery approved by the insurance company. Paid for 100%. Dr. Monk's nurse Sue has been fantastic. The lady is very busy but will take the time to stop and talk to you and solve any issues you may have. She is a godsend.

Dr. Monk was always kind and very informative. He answered all my questions and explained anything I didn't understand the first time. Dr. Monks nurse has always been very helpful and returned my phone calls promptly. The remainder of the staff is kind and helpful also. Dr. Monk seems to care about the obese patient, treating them like a person, not looking down on them, not treating us like we have a dreadful incurable disease. But a real person with feelings, and a hope for the future. Dr. Monk and his nurse explained all the risks several times to me, and again as I signed all the paper work. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest rating I would give Dr. Monk a 10. I cannot think of anything that I dislike about Dr. Monk or his staff. I would recommend anyone who lives in this Pennsylvania area to visit Dr. Monk.

Excellent surgeon but no bedside manner.
Hasn't. Friendly staff and sort of efficient. He is a freakazoid but all that matters to me is his skill. He strongly emphasizes aftercare. Yes he does. Very good, Would rate him a 10 for skill zippo for bedside. More important is skill.

Dr. Monk is an excellent doctor! He and his staff was very helpful, caring and informative about my surgery. His assistant, Sue, went the extra mile to make sure my insurance approved the surgery 100%. Dr. Monk does have a rather long waiting list and this was a bit frustrating.
Dr. Monk was very honest about the 3 patients who died after surgery (one died from something other than the surgery) and any complications other patients had. He also provided me with lots of positive feedback about patients. He made my husband, Dan, feel very comfortable with being the dr. who would perform my surgery. While I was in the operating room, Dr. Monk made sure that Dan was kept updated as to how the surgery was going. Other than having some bloody stool movements after surgery (this was fixed by taking me off the blood thinners) I have had absolutely no complications! The above is just my opinions and others may not agree but I have had no bad experiences with Dr. Monk or his office.

My first inpression of Dr. Monk was that he was very kind and soft spoken. He answered all the questions I had ( and I had alot of them) truthful and honestly. He tells you the risks involved with the surgery and doesn't "sugar coat it". He explained the surgical process and what to expect in the hospital and what to look for afterwards. His staff was really nice Thanks Sue so much. She is Dr. Monk's nurse. I give Dr. Monk a 10++++. If you looking to have the surgery done and you live close to the York area definatly look him up. I will update this after I have the surgery but I have a feeling that Dr. Monk's bedside manner will be the same as seeing him pre-op.

He's a very friendly person. Did not change.
Very friendly. He emphasize on the care after the surgery. Yes. I would rate he at 100%. He did go over the risk of the surgery. Both were great.

When I first met Dr. Monk he was in a different practice as chief resident for York Hospital. He was so busy that you didn't get much time with him. Nevertheless, he made sure to answer all my questions.

On subsequent visits if have found that Dr. Monk is a caring doctor who genuinely cares about my whole body health. He also makes sure to cover all bases before proceeding with surgery. I have a fairly rare bleeding disorder and he is making sure everything is covered on that end. His nurse, Sue, is definitely a sweetie; she's so very helpful. They took care of everything concerning getting approval from my insurance, I didn't have to do a thing. As for a rating - I'd give them a 10+. I'm sure I'll have more to write after surgery.

I really like Dr. Monk at least so far. He was kind but yet told me what to expect. He answered all my questions and I had quite a few. I'm still pre-op, so I can only give you my opinion until this point.
