John Monk Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

I met him for the first time April 21st.He is very nice.He doesn`t sugar coat this surgery.He answered all my questions.His office staff is top notch! They are on top of things.Dr Monk emphasize aftercare very much.Yes he does have a structured aftercare program.Yes he goes over the risks of surgery.He doesn`t surgarcoat it.I haven`t had surgery yet so I can`t rate him yet.Surgical competence is better.

I liked Dr.Monk as soon as I met him. During my hospital stay (9 days) I found him to be very compassionate and kind. His office staff is very busy. My surgery was at 1:00pm and after surgery I was in the recovery room for 4hrs. so I did not get to my room until 7:00pm. The next AM Dr. Monk told me I would be able to go home that night. I was very suprised and asked him why? ( I did not feel ready and knew my insurance auth was for 2 days) Dr. Monk said that he didn't believe in keeping a pt. longer than necessary. That was all changed after I had my UGI and a gastric leak was discovered. No wonder I didn't feel ready to go home! Dr Monk is very strict about following his plan of aftercare. I received printed instruction along with verbal. I also see Dr Muzzio the weight loss specialist I saw prior to surgery. Dr Monk is straight forward and lets you know exactly what the complications could be and how to avoid surgery. I would rate Dr Monk as excellent in surgical competence and bedside manner.

When I first met Dr. Monk, I expected the best. He is very professional, not much of a joker. I am not much of a joker either, but I think I needed a little laughter to make this experience go smoothly. I am still impressed with his experience, but wish he made me feel like an individual. He does set realist expectations and tries to answer questions before he's asked. His staff has been great. They acutally return calls. I haven't spent any extended period of time in his office waiting. In fact, I arrived approximately 20 min early once and was seen right away. At this early point, I would refer him because he is one of the best in the area and his office appears very organized. They have this whole procedure from the consults to follow-up down. I have even been given information on follow-up care, even though I don't have a date yet.
3/24/05 I just wanted to add that day of my surgery, Dr. Monk was great. I felt like I saw another side of him. He Joked! I was surprised. It made me feel that much more comfortable with my decision. He was great. I would still recommend him. Sue, his nurse is very busy, yet she still returns calls. Although the calls seem hurried, she does answer all questions (if you have them ready, because she doesn't give you a chance to think of them). Overall, this has been a pleasant experience.

I am very impressed with Dr. Monk. I saw him for my final pre-op visit and I told him I read from a former patient that he will pray with you if you want him to. I was glad to hear he dialoges with God throughout the day regularily. That in itself is reassuring to me.I feel he treats everyone respectfully. He is kind. He answered my questions and did not seem in a rush.

When I fisrt met Dr. Monk it was when he had done my neice Lainie. When he came from the operating room to tell us how it went, he addressed all of us and I think that shows a good character. When I met with him for myself he was very straight forward and very attentive towards me and my husband. He came across as a man who knows what needs to be done and knows the safest way for it to be done. He also comes across as it being his way or no way. But I would tell anyone looking into this surgery and newlife style to at least sit and talk to him first.His staff are both great to work with and knowledgeable of their job. Im glad they all will be with me through out this change.

He is very up front. Explained everything very well. I felt comfortable with him, and trusted him. His nurse Sue is great. She helped me with answering questions and is super nice. Really nothing against him. Some people think he is not personable. I like him, he is to the point and answers everything you need. He is very into after care. I saw him each day after the surgery and One week after and one month after. His surgical competance is tremendous. I trusted him with no problem.

Dr. Monk is thorough and precise. His bedside manners are excellent. I felt he took a personal interest especially on the morning of my surgery.
At my first office visit I thought he was a bit "dry", but found out later he is funny and easy to talk to. He only has one nurse that works with him in the office. Her name is Sue, and she is busy. The staff is kind and always willing to assist. Overall, I would rate Dr. Monk high.

I was a bit nervous when I first met him. However, he was very straight forward and very open and honest. He made me feel comfortable even though the topic is one to make you just quiver in your chair. His office staff is very nice and very helpful. I know I've been a big pain in the butt to his nurse. I call her about once a week to check the status of my paperwork and she's always so friendly even though I'm sure she wants to ring my neck. I have yet to have a bad experience and I don't expect to have one. Everyone's been honest and helpful along the way and always willing to answer any question that pops into my head. I'd recommend them to anyone in the area. The only downfall is he's only one guy and he has only one nurse and though they are very helpful, they are also very busy. Patience is a key and I'm not one to have much of that and I've yet to be frustrated.

Now that I'm through the surgery, I couldn't be more pleased with my surgeon. He seemed overly pleased as well with my surgery as he said it went "Beautifully" his surgical staff made me think of a dream and it was over before I realized 4 hours had passed ;-) I am so happy with everything at this point.

I havent met him yet, i met his asst. i will meet him the 16th of december. but i have heard so many good things about him and his staff. the ones i met today were all very nice, and helpful.

I finally met dr.monk on the 16th of december. i like him alot, seems very knowledgable and a sense of humor too.i was very comfortable with him right away. and that means alot to me.

A wonderful man!
My impression of Dr. Monk became better and better over time.
Dr. Monks staff is excellent. Well organized.
Can't think of a thing I don't like. :)
He's a kind and caring man, who really wants to help.
Aftercare is very important. He has a very structured aftercare program.

I knew exactly what the risks of surgery were.
