John Monk Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

10-25-02 WELL I HAVE CHANGED MY SURGEON TO DR.MONK IN YORK PA.ACTUALLY FOR SEVERAL REASONS AND THE ONE REASON I WANT TO HAVE IT DONE THIS YEAR (THE SURGERY) BTC DOESNT EVEN CALL TO ATLEAST UPDATE ME ON THE INS. APPROVAL ON THE FACILITY.PLUS YORK IS SO MUCH CLOSER AND MY HUSBAND AND I FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH HIM SO FAR. HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING IN GREAT DETAIL.HE SEEMS TO BE A VERY NICE MAN AND CARING COUSE HES NOT JUST RUSHING IN TO DO MY SURGERY COUSE IAM A SMOKER AND I HAVE TO BE SMOKE FREE AND I CAN APRECIATE THAT.

My first impression of Dr. Monk was very good. I have met so many surgeons before for different reasons, and he seemed the most down to earth out of all. He covered all the bases, and informed me of all the risks. His staff is so helpful and very friendly.

At first when I met Dr Monk I was not sure that he was the right surgeon forme. He was very upfront with me, and now I am glad to have him as my surgeon. The office staff is fantastic, returning calls very quickly and very friendly and funny. Sue was able to make this whole process so much easier. She is a wealth of information.

Dr. Monk seems to be a very caring doctor. He explained the procedure and told me all of the pros and cons. He has a great bedside manner. He made me feel very comfortable. His nurse Sue is also a sweetie. So far, I'd recommend him to anyone. (only have had the inital) The only thing that really bothered me was the fact that he is so busy. In the middle of my consult, he had to leave for an emergency. I had to come back for a 10 minute session. I am excited for the next appointment in 3 weeks. Kathy is also a godsend. She took care of all of my insurance woes.

My first impression of Dr. Monk was excellent. The staff was also great and very friendly. I was only there for one visit so I really can't give you a second opinion of how things went. I go back on Sept. 3rd and can tell you more later. My instincts are always pretty good and I also have a very good friend who had him for the surgery and was very well pleased, so I doubt if my opinion will change. He is very informative and does not make you feel bad for your being over-weight. He addressed all the risks of the surgery and answered my questions. I will be having another visit with him , so that my husband can go along so he can answer his questions also.

Dr. Monk was very thorough in explaining the procedure, as well as all risks involved. He took the time to answer all of my questions in detail. His nurse, Sue, and Kathy in the office are both wonderful. The only thing that bothered me was the day my fiance went to my appointment with me... Dr. Monk kept looking at him and speaking to him as if he was the one forcing me to have this surgery so he could have a "Barbie" on his arm. Please! He is very supportive about what I want to do, but he is the last person who would pressure me to do it. I'm actually afraid that he won't find me as attractive when I'm smaller... but I'm doing this for ME, not him.

I just have to say that I was very happy with the way Dr. Monk was upfront with everything.He made me aware of all the risks and answered every one of my questions.I feel very blessed to have found him.I truly feel the Lord has lead me to him.His staff is amazing and Kathy is a little angel.She is the person who takes care of your insurance needs.If you are thinking about having the surgery and live near York Pa, I strongly suggest you see Dr. Monk.

Dr Monk seems to be a very nice man. He was sort of busy but he took the time to explain the surgery to me. He informed me of he benefits and the risk. He set up another appt to make sure I am sure that I want the surgery. His staff seemed to be very nice. He also give all the information you will need for after care. I would rate him a 10. He was very thorough.

Dr. Monk was very informative. He spent time to give me a physical, and explain the surgery. He also answered some questions. He was busy, but spent as much time as he could on the 1st visit. The second visit was more questions and answers. Dr. Monk also has a support group meeting going on at Apple Hill Medical Center in York, PA, the 1st Tuesday of each month with a great group of people. He explained all the risks, and admitted to losing two patients in his early attemps at this procedure. He is always improving his procedure to protect the patient, and has done over 100 gastric bypass operations with success.

WELL I HAVE HAD ALL THE NEEDED APPT'S DONE, MY NEXT ONE ON MARCH 20TH, WILL CONFIRM A DATE FOR THE SURGERY.

DR. MONK HAS BEEN A VERY WONDERFUL DOCTOR SO FAR. HE HAS ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS, AND MAKES ME FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE. HIS STAFF IS DELIGHTFUL, AND I DON'T HAVE TO WAIT LONG TO SEE THE DOCTOR, HE'S RIGHT ON TIME. AND EXPLAINES EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW, THE SURGERY PLAN AND THE RISKS INVOLVED. I WOULD RECOMEND HIM TO ANY ONE. I am 5 months out from surgery now. down 90 pounds and doing great. Dr Monk has been great for me. Hes a great Doctor. I am so glad I had him to see me thur this. Hes been with me every month. I can always call him if I need him. He's greatttttttt!!!!.
