My first impression of Dr. Sonpal was pretty good. I have only had one meeting eith the doctor so far. I think that the staff was helpful and friendly. Patients need to know that Dr. Sonpal is a man about business, he will not baby you, but he gets straight to the point. He talked a lot about an exercise program and how that will affect my weight loss. I really don't want ot rate the Dr. yet because I have only had one meeting with him. I feel that surgical competence as well as bedside manner is important.
Dr schreiber was great at my invisit...he listens to all you have to say, explains all the pro's and cons, even the scary ones, and gives you a chance to ask questions you might have.....
From what ive delt with his staff thus far, they seem to be very efficent, caring and so willing to help....will update more later
My first impression was that of wonder he seem to understand me better than myself and I feel and still feel confident having him as a surgeon. His staff is awsome and that word just could not do them justice I have sent so many emails and called them so many times and they never grew tired of my questions. They have never been rood with me and have taken time to answer my concerns.
All the information they gave me and my concerned family members has been overwhelming and so helpful. The staff and Dr. sonpal have been very insistant on after care also for this is not a cure but only a tool and we should use this tool to our benifit as I know I will and plan to. They have went into the risks and ask if we had any concerns of the surgery and I feel as i believe his other patients do that we understand and are willing to take the risks to be able to live a life that we are wanting for ourselves.
I was so excited about the whole process get my PAT and then my surgery date of january 22nd. the only thing that scared me was the shots having to take for 3 days after surgery. but I found a friend who is coming over to give them to me.
So far with all that I have dealt with I can only give them a 10 . because i have had only good experiance with this office and Dr. Sonpal
I was impressed with his knowlegde but concerned why the laproscopic method was not use by him. His office staff are available and very informed and helpful.
I still think the laproscopic method is preferable and dislike being told it is not done due to taking 8 hours where as in the book "Gut Feeling" the doctor says it only takes about 30 minutes longer than the open method. I think the risks were increased by the open method and I was not well informed.
the after care is good and group things seem more helpful than staff.
1.Well I am bipolar and for thoughs who don't know that is a form of depression with mania. I have many mood swings. When I first met Dr. Sonpal he made me cry, he felt sence i had bipolar his nurses couldn't handle me and which me being only 22 I guess he really wanted to make sure that i wanted the surgery because it was not walk in the park with him.
2.The day of the surgery, Dr. Sonpal came in with all smiles. I still felt negitive about him due to the previous meeting, but my feelings where changing when he starting to treat me like an adult, not a child.
3.Dr. Sonpal office staff was understanding and wonderful.
6.Aftercase is very important to me and to him with out it the surgery is almost pointless.
7.yes
8.The risks of the surgery where adderess by him and at lectures. Also this great person AL i call him an Angel he explained alot too he had the surgery a year ago.
9.On a scale from 1-10 i would rate Dr Sonpal with a 9 because no one is perfect.
10. Surgical Competence
Always dealing with a new Doctor I come in with an open mind and he was a very nice and gentle Doctor, who knows what he is doing. Eventhough I thought his lack of height might be a bit of a problem, but like anything else it's only a problem if you let it become one. Which Dr.Sonpal dosen't let become a problem. The is wonderfull allways there to answer any question you may have about the surgery before, during, and after. You are drilled by the Doctor and the Staff about the aftercare program and how important it is to your recovery. The aftercare program is very structured so you really can't screw up
I just met Dr. Sonpal for the first time on 4/10/01. He seemed very pleasant and thorough. He and Dr. Helmut Schreiber always work as a team during each surgery. This reduces the amount of time spent under anesthesia. I like this concept. I spent approximately 15 minutes with Dr. Sonpal during which he completed a medical history of me to ascertain my risk status for surgery.
The office staff of both surgeons appear very efficient and caring. They have this system down to a science.
They not only have a structured aftercare program, they have a very structured pre surgery program in which a Clinical Nurse Specialist gives a detailed description of what this surgery entails. Risks and complications are discussed in detail. They ask for a 2 year committment from each patient for follow up.
While I would like my surgeon to have a great bedside manner complete with a sense of humor, I would rather have surgical excellence.
12/19/01- 3 months post op. I experienced some problems during my post op period. Dr. Sonpal was extremely attentive as were the 4 other physicians I had on consultation.
I liked Dr. Sonpal immediately. He has a sense of humor and seems very nice. I am impressed with the office staff at CCBS. They seem caring and although busy, did take time to answer my questions.
It is my understanding that there is a 2 year aftercare program at CCBS. I believe he was honest and realistic about the risks involved with the surgery. I have talked in depth with my PCP and Dr. Sonpal said almost the same things concerning the risks involved.
