My first impression of Dr. Harrington was during the required group informational meeting. He seems very professional, direct, and respectful of those who are obese.
Met with him today (7/1/02) for the surgical consult. Very informative, yet friendly. Felt very comfortable with him and him appears very confident about the results of this procedure.
Dr Harrington is very patient and thorough in explaining the procedure, life-style changes and possible complications of WLS. He made me feel totally at ease when discussing how I feel about being overweight and he truly understands the problems associated with obesity, be it physical and/or mental.
He is very busy and it did take some time to get my paperwork to the insurance company. But once they approved it, things seem to be moving along well.
I MET WITH DR. HARRINGTON ON JAN.7,02. DR. HARRINGTON WAS VERY INFORMATIVE ABOUT THE GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY. HE WAS VERY DIRECT, AND TO THE POINT ABOUT EVERYTHING. HE ADVISED ME OF ALL THE THINGS THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DO BEFORE AND AFTER THE SURGERY. I REALLY LIKE DR. HARRINGTON AND HIS STAFF THEY ALL MADE ME FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE. OVERALL I WOULD RATE DR. HARRINGTON AND HIS STAFF A 10+
My first impression of Dr. Harrington was his manner. He is very gentle a good listener, I had many questions written down to ask him when I met with him. He was very reassurring about his technique with Lapriscopic surgury, with all his patients having good results. I met and heard several of his patients in a support group and found they thought he was very good at what he does. Very compassionate man. He said if I followed everything he told me to do I would be very successful. The program seems to have a great support system set up for the patints throughtout the time you are accepted for the surgury and beyond the first year as well. As far as risks concerned Dr. Harrington said that his patients that did the best were the ones who followed his guide throught the program. And that his success rate in the surgury were 100%. My surgury is April 11, 2002, I will most likley have more to share as to how everything is going. I really don't have negative input at this point, and hope to remain postive and prayerful!!! I will be praying for Dr. Harrington as well, if fact I told him this, he seemed to take me seriously!!!
He seemed very caring during the "group" informational meeting. I have a feeling when I saw him for my initial one on one consultation it wasn't the best day for him. I had to wait over an hour past my set appointment time so I may not have been in the best mood either. I felt rushed and although he asked if I had questions when I began asking them he seemed a little annoyed. I'm sure I'll find he is really as nice as he originally seemed. Hiliary Surratt is the coordinator person and she is awsome. She has always been extremely nice (even though she is most likely overworked)and is full of information! There is a monthly support group patients are encouraged to attend and I plan to do just that! The receiptionist wasn't very warm and constantly made irritated faces when the phone rang or someone asked a question of her. I will say once I'd been waiting for 45 minutes she tried to be nice and reassure me I was next in line.
Had my initial consultation with Dr. Harrington 1/4/02. I was really frustrated because I had to wait for almost an hour before he seen me and I was his first appointment! Anyway, once he finally came in, I felt better. He seemed very knowledgeable and honest about the procedure. He was honest about his track record and was able to discuss the differences between the "open" and "lap" version of the operation. All and all, it went ok. I kind of felt like he was a tape recorder, repeating the same long speech he has done forever. But, maybe it was just a bad day. We all have those. I still feel as though Dr. Harrington is the right doctor for me.
1/17/02 - Dr. Harringotn still has not gotten my paperwork to his assistant (she mails to ins. company) - I am very frustrated !
1/23/02 - Dr. Harrington still has not compelted his paperwork. I think this is unreasonable. All they will tell me is that he is behind on his dictation. Frustrated !!!
1/30/02- Info was sent by Dr. Harrington's office to my carrier today. Almost 1 month
from my initial consultation. Hopefully, the approval will come much quicker.
Dr. Gary Harrington was very understanding and sincere. The first year post op, Dr. Harrington sees his own patients, instead of a nurse practitoner. I really trusted him. The staff was great!
The only thing I didn't like about him was he was very tall and slim! Unlkie me, of course.
Dr Harrington's surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.
