First impression of dr. harrington was that he was determined to help me get approved for this surgery.
Yes, it took a long time for his staff to send in my info to the insurance company, which pissed me off.
It took along time for me to see him.
i have nothing negative to say about him yet.
he is a doctor who cares about his patients.
he will be in your face if you miss appointments believe it.
dr. harringtons office has a extensive aftercare management department w/ monthly support groups.
dr.harrington pulled no punches and told me of all risk during surgery.
i would give dr. harrington a 9 out of a possible 10 so far since i have not had the surgery yet.
from information i recieved from former patients of his he had an excellent bedside manner and his surgical competence is one of the best if not the best in the state of virginia.
i have not had the s
Dr. Harrington seems very personable and I really look forward to our patient/Doctor relationship. He is very confident, but not cocky and answered my questions. He didn't rush me...he made me feel as though I was important and that really means a lot to me. I let feeling very positive about this journey and would highly recommend him as a surgeon.
Dr. Harrington is a blessing. He is very professional and very thorough. I felt completely confident and safe in his care. His office staff is great! I know them all by first name and enjoy each visit. He is shy and somewhat quiet, compared to me! He is one of the few DR's in Richmond that performs the laproscopic gastric bypass and has modified the original procedure to eliminate some of the negative affects of the surgery. His program is very structured! The meetings and classes are a must for any patient! I felt completely aware of everything and felt all my questions had been answered by the time of my surgery.
I have only met with Dr. Harrington once, but he spent almost 2 hours with me. He was very professional and personable. He explained everything in detail and addressed all my questions and concerns. I did not feel hurried in any way. His staff is very thorough and professional.
Dr. Harrington's practice (Commonwealth Surgeons) is terrifically efficient and organized. They have several classes that I will attend prior to surgery. They stress that aftercare and adherence to their advice will result in the best results. They have a structured aftercare group that meets once a month. I attended the group in May and found it helpful and informative. When I came out, there was Dr. Harrington. Apparently it is not unusual for the surgeons to attend the group almost every month!
The attitude of this surgeon and his associates is that you are a patient for life. They encourage you to stay in contact and to ask questions. In the world of managed healthcare I find their attitude refreshing.
Dr. Harrington thoroughly explained all the risks of the surgery as well as the benefits. After meeting him and speaking with several of his post-op patients, I feel very confident that Dr. Harrington will do a great job.

Post-Op Impressions: Dr. Harrington has great bedside manner. He was calm, honest, and very reassuring. He came to see me at least once (some days twice) every day while I was in the hospital. He is obviously very dedicated. He always took time to answer all my questions and he really listened to me. I would absolutely reccomend Dr. Harrington, and I have the highest regard for him personally and professionally.

Dr. Harrington was very thorough with his questions and answers. His office staff are excellent people, especially Barbara and Florence. Dr. harrington addressed some of the risks of surgery but not all of them. I would rate him as a good surgeon. His bedside manner and surgical comptenence were both good.
Dr. Harrington is the kindest, most professional, most intelligent doctor with whom I have ever come in contact. He is a pleasure to be around. He has been very informative from day one. His bedside manner was wonderful. He was kind and very patient with my family after surgery. I would recommend Dr. Harrington to anyone considering WLS. Plus he's a snappy dresser too!
His office staff is exceptional. From my first conversation with Hillary by phone, to my meetings with Beth, Dr. Harrington's nurse and Barbara, his nurse practioner, everyone was absolutely wonderful. Hillary never complained when my insurance was being a little slow to approve and I was calling her every day for an update.
Dr. Harrington's group offers pre-surgery classes in which one learns all there is to know about the surgery, diet and behavioral changes after surgery. I was so informed by the time I reached the OR that I could have told the nurses a thing or two!
Okay, I have nothing negative to say. But I am being 100% honest. There is absolutely nothing I would have changed about my experience with Dr. Harrington and his staff.
Dr. Harrington is a very caring and professional surgeon. He is very attentive and sows true concern for his patients.
First impression to last was nothing but good.
Office staff are friendly.
Pre-op education is highly stressed and patients are required to attend informative classes before surgery. Classes include: dietary, information related to surgery and post-op care and behavioral modification.
Patients are well informed as to what to expect after surgery and how to care for themselves. The risks involved are always made clear. Patients are given an information book to use & keep, during and after classes and surgery.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Harrington as being an excellent doctor.
