He had the softest hands and very soft sopken. I was a little nervouse because everytime we had an appointment he was late or he forgot about me. But over time his nurse Alfreda was so nice and comforting to my issues. The staff seem very busy, but answered my questions. I was a little concerned that he did not get back to me when I called but I now know that he was in the process of relocating to another office. Dr. Harrington was very nice and kind. His bedside manner and surgical competence was great and this is very important to me.

WELL, I HAD STARTED WITH DR. TERRENCE FULLUMAN AN ASSOCIATE OF DR. HARRINGTON BUT AS OF 09/01/04 DR. GARY HARRINGTON WILL BE MY SURGEON, DUE TO SCHEDULING AS I STATED ABOVE , NO PROBLEMS WITH DR. HARRINGTON EVERYONE SAYS HE'S A GREAT DOCTOR AND FROM WHAT I'VE LEARNED IN A SHORT TIME HE DOES VERY WELL WITH COMPLICATIONS WHICH CAN ARISE FROM SUPER-OBESE PATIENTS SUCH AS MYSELF.

Dr. Harrington has a wonderful and caring personality. He is very thorough and his ability to relay information in an positive and forthright manner is great. I felt very comfortable speaking to him. He does not sugar coat or mislead his patients into thinking the surgery is easy; however he demonstrates through experience with past patients how it is beneficial to those who take heed. The total plan seems to be very well mapped out and I am excited about tis journey and I am pleased that he has moved into the DC Metropolitan area.

I again have a new surgeon. Due too getting insurance, I hope this comes off without a hitch. I haven't meet Dr. Fullum as of yet. but my first consult is June 2, 2004. I did meet Dr. Gary Harrington, at Washington Adventist Support group meeting. I really liked what he had too say. Update more later...

Okay as of today.. 9 July 2004 It has been confirmed that Dr. Gary Harrington will be my surgeon. I have only spoke with Dr. Harrington once other than at his support group meeting. I really was impressed with his manner in which he handles all patients. I felt like I was a human being not, just $$$. My final consult with Dr. Harrington is 28 July 2004. I cannot wait. Praying for no snags........

I found Dr. Harrington to be a very appoarchable, surgeon who appeared to really care about the plight the obease individuals face.
He was very informative and willing to provide as musch time needed to answer any and all questions.
To date I impression of him still remains the same.
I can not think of any specificthing that I did not like about him.
That if you are serious about surgery, Dr. Harrington can make it happen for you with all of the necessary pre-opt elements able to you through his practice.
Dr, Harrington is a strong advocate of aftercare and he has a comprehensive Aftercare Program available,
Dr. Harrington advises the risk of surgery by requiring all potential patients to attend at least two informational seminars (led by him and his staff).
In a range of 1 to 10, I would rate Dr. Harrington a 9. I think his surigal comptence was much better than his his bedside manner, but there was nothing particularly wrong with it.
The office staff were all very friendly and helpful, however because they are very use to the whole process, I think that there are occasions when they may have just taken for granted that you already new the answer or what to expect. But once I toke the time to just inquire any an all of what I wanted to know, they never hestitated to provide me with the answere or point me to a resource where to find answer.
If I had any complaints about the whole process, it would be that of how some of the nursing staff at the hospital where the surgery took place made me feel. I had my surgery at Washington Adventist Hospital. I would recommend future patiences seek out another hospital. Althought there were lots of very helpful, dedicated, knowlegible staff, many of the nursing staff that worked with me, were less than desirable. I was taken to my room after surgery and observed my husband that I had soiled myself during surgery. He was informed my one of the nurses that I would be cleaned up and that the nightshift staff would come and help to get up during the night. Neither of these things happened, I layed in my own feces until early afternoon the next day, when I finally was able to get myself out of the bed and discovered I needed to clean myself and the bed up. Several of the night shift staff were literally asleep on their feet dealing with patients. This concerned me particularly when it came to giving out medications.

Dr. Gary Harrington is very well educated and experience withe bariatric surgey. He has trained Dr. Terrence Fullum and has done both the Open and Lap Gastric Bypass Surgery. He has done over 1000 patients. i am very confident in him. I am very pleased to hear he is back in the Washington, DC area.

My surgeon, Dr. Harrington, is relocating his practice to the MD/DC area, and is a partner in the practice of Dr. Terrence Fullum. I attended Dr. Harrington's pre-op informational session at Washington Adventist Hospital in April, and again in May. I found his Powerpoint presentation very informative, he is clear about the risks of morbid obesity and the risks of gastric bypass surgery. He emphasizes aftercare, and there is a support group for post-ops held at the hospital each month. My consultation with Dr. Harrington was May 5th and I found him to be very friendly and he was happy to answer all of my questions.

When I first met THE DOCTOR, he was very professional, thorough, supportive, attentive,
and encouraging. Over time my impression changed because I became more dependent of his medical knowledge. The office staff was fair, they seemed a bit over worked at times I guess most people in this day and time are a bit over worked. The thing I liked least about him was his final decision to move to DC, I just wanted to keep him here for my follow ups. All of his future patients should know that he comes highly reccommended from me to them. Aftercare is much emphasized by him, he asks questions to find out exactly what you are doing or not doing to address any issues that you may have (ex. hair loss) then advise and / or re-emphasize needed steps to take in getting rid of the issues. He has I think the most structured aftercare program that I know of. He addressed the risks of surgery very clear and openly. Overall I would rate Dr. Harrington professionally on a scale of 1-10, as a 9. I think surgical competence is more important than bedside manner however they both are needed.
Good Luck
Dr.Harrington in your new location.

Liked everyone on staff, especially Barbara the nurse prac. I had heard from some other patients that he was slow. but I didn't mind that just meant he was thorough.
