Dr. Vaughn was friendly and appeared to care very much about the work he does. Throughout the entire consult I only felt more at ease with the idea of getting the open roux en y. Office staff were all very kind and helpful. There wasn't anything that I didn't like about him. He is very professional and is very confident in the work he does. He explained everything very thoroughly and in terms that I could understand. He didn't sugarcoat anything about the risks of surgery either. Aftercare is very important at BTC and is suggested for the rest of your life. After care is 2wk, 6wk, 3month, 1 yr. from surgery and every year there after. blood work is done every quarter at your local hospital and results sent to BTC (i,m not sure how long this goes on for) there is also an 800 # that you can call anytime and ask anything. I thought that to be quite comforting as well. So far Dr. Vaughn would get a 10 on a scale of 1-10. Dr. vaughn has wonderful surgical competence and bedside manner.

I met with Dr. Vaughn on 8/01/03 for
my consultation for WLS. I personally
liked Dr. Vaughn, his manner was very
good and he is really down to earth.
He educated me and my husband what to expect from beginning to end. He was very understanding and told me about himself, his
exprience in the surgical field as well as
Bariatric Surgery. Believe me I asked.
He is very confident in himself and takes
pride in helping to change peoples lives in
a positive way and help them defeat the battle of obesity. I do not have alot of co-morbidities, at risk because they run in my family. I want to prevent the problems before they start.
I have been researching weight loss surgery
for over a year now and I have to say that so
far The Bariatric Treatment Center is the place to go for surgery because this is their specialty and I am confident that I will be in good hands there. I feel that Dr.
Vaughn is a great Doctor, he was very good with me answered my questions and he was very straight forward about aftercare.
The confidence he put in himself relieved
me all the more.

Today was my first Consultation with Dr. Vaughn at BTC Belvidere, IL. My first impression with him was very good. I thought he seemed very much at ease with his work and with people in general. I was the last appt. of the day so he was a little slap happy by time it was my turn, Thank you Lord. I am a very humorous person and that is what puts me at ease. The office staff was wonderful. All the way from the receptionist, the nurse and my patient counselor was awesome. The thing I liked least about Dr. Vaughn is that he is the least experienced doctor at BTC,as far as the WLS is concerned, but after talking to him for 2 hrs. and hearing how many patients he has operated on just since the beginning of this year and all their outcomes I was impressed. Should you have a consult with him and he isn't quite as friendly with you just know that he does have a awesome side. He definatley cares about his patients, at one point he got "teary eyed" while sharing stories with us. He stressed aftercare alot, and how important it is to insure your health short and long term. They do offer a very structured aftercare program right there at BTC. He addressed all the risks of surgery, from minor to major not candy coating any of it. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my consult. and feel very at ease with Dr. Vaughn as my surgeon. I felt that both his surgical competence and bedside manner seemed really good. He took time and stayed late and answered "All" of my questions very detailed and made sure I knew what he meant in english not "doctorese". He seems to be very competent in his field. My husband felt very informed by time we left. He has been awesome to support me through all this and I think it was good for him to hear all this from the doctor's mouth not just from what I've read or heard, etc.

I had my consultation with Dr. Schlesinger back in Feb. My insurance approved the surgery without problem in less then a month! Couldn't fit it into my schedule and my husbands for surgery until June 4th. I didn't meet Dr. Vaugn until the day of surgery bjut I didn't have any qualms about this since I had reaserched as much as I could about him beforehand. He was very nice, had a sense of humor and put me even more at ease the morning of surgery.(besides that my incision line looks wonderful!)
Post-op in the hosp. only saw him once but did meet his partners and being in the medical field, felt very impressed by the treatment. My very favorite Dr. during my staay and PAT's was Dr. Hess...he really knows how to treat he patients.

My first impression of Dr. Vaughn was bad...but only because my appointment was at 10 a.m. and he didn't actually come in to speak to me until 11 a.m. Usually that alone would make me leave an appointment, but this is ver important to me, so I waited, and I'm very happy I did. Dr. Vaughn made me feel very comfortable and answered all (and I had a list of about 20) of my questions with patience. The office staff was wonderful and efficient. I can't say I didn't like anything about Dr. Vaughn because he seemed so genuine. He addressed all the risks of surgery and even said my husband could call him with any questions, because my husband was very opposed to my having this surgery. After I came home with answers to the list of questions my husband and I prepared the night before, he felt much better about it and gave me his blessing to go ahead with the surgery, which was imperative to me. I believe surgical competence is better, but with Dr. Vaughn I will have the best of both worlds, sugical competence and bedside manner. I'm looking forward to having the surgery. It's in BTC's hands now, just waiting for insurance approval, then I'll go from there.

Dr. Berkowitz on consult was very kind, non-judgemental and informative man. I was impressed with his humor and knowledge. I ended up having Dr. Vaughn do the surgery due to some insurance crunches and scheduling conflicts. He made me feel very at ease, was kind and warm and very confident.

Met with the Dr. Eric Vaughn on Friday, May 9th. He was very personable and took the time to explain the procedure and all the risks. He also made sure to answer any questions I had. We had a great conversation about what the surgery could do for me physically and why I wanted to have the surgery. I was very nervous before the appointment but now he really set me at ease, I am positive this is the way to go.

My friend Cyndee and I are going to have this surgery together. We met with Dr. Vaughn on 4/24/03, He walked in the room with a smile on his face and a fantastic sense of humor. Although my weight has been debilitating my entire life, I have always managed to keep a somewhat upbeat attitude. I handle stress best with laughter, and he was very good at handling the humor while providing all of the necessary information to keep both my friend and me well prepared for our new lifes. We went to the BTC clinic in Belvidere, which is about 4 1/2 hours from where we live. Although we live in the St. Louis area, I was unable to get as comfortable feeling about having this done in a regular hospital veruse one that specializes in this type of surgery. When my primary care physician and I discussed this surgery and I first brought the brochure of this clinic to him, his response was any surgeon can do this procedure, so you don't need to drive so far. So my friend and I checked out the clinics available in St. Louis, well some have over a year waiting list just for a consult, others are losing doctors right and left. The most important thing was we just didn't feel comfortable, you know the feeling you get when you know you have made the right decision. This is the feeling we both got from the BTC clinic, as for things we didn't like, DISTANCE from our home. We both wish that we could encourage BTC to open a facility in the St. Louis area. As I am pre-op I will post my additional answers later.

My surgeon has been changed to Dr. Vaughn. My dear friend who had surgery last year was scheduled with him, but he didn't have any openings when she had the time off. However, my first impression of Dr. Boe was that he was very informative. Dr. Boe was very pleasant. He answered all of my questions and addressed every concern. With all the research and reading I've been doing over the last few weeks I didn't have many questions to ask. I've read so much about the positive aspects of this surgery, but I haven't heard much about the negative aspects and the risks. Dr. Boe was very up front about the possible risks and side effects of the surgery. My mother and close friends have been trying to discourage me from having this surgery, but after talking with Dr. Boe and his staff (who were also quite pleasant), I am 100% positive I am going to have this procedure done. Dr. Boe's surgical competence as well as his bedside manner were outstanding!!!
