Dr. Vaughn was wonderful! I spent almost 2 years researching different surgeons in and out of the area that I live in and I finally found him. First impression was that he was competent as well as sincerely concerned for my health. I was not 500# but I was morbidly obese and others disregarded me because I was not 500#. My impression only got better and better over time. I am a PA so I had alot of techinical questions as well as the regular "patient anxiety" questions. He always took the time to explain things to me and ease my mind. He never beat around the bush about the risk invovled which helped make me feel that I was getting all of the information. His staff was also wonderful. I never had to fight for an appointment and they were always kind and respectful. I can not say that there was anything I did not like about him. When he came to talk to me right before I went into surgery he even was willing to say a little prayer with me (which made me feel even better about my selection). As important as all of the pre-op stuff was, he always focused on post-op issues. He always made sure that I knew that there was alot of hard work after the surgery as well and made sure that I knew that I had alot of support there at the clinic. Overall, I would rate him as an outstanding person, surgeon as well as doctor with a great bedside manner.
My Mom and I both met with the Dr. Eric Vaughn on Friday, May 9th. He was very great! He took his time explaining the procedure and all the risks. He also made sure to answer any questions we had. We had a great conversation about what the surgery could do for me physically and why I wanted to have the surgery. I was very nervous before the appointment but now I am really excited about my big day!
I had my consultation April 25, 2003 with Dr. Vaughn at BTC. He was very friendly, down to earth and personable. He explained everything thoroughly, although he sometimes spoke so quickly and in Doctor-ese that I didn't initially understand what he was saying. My husband followed the physiological Dr. talk better than I did. Haha! ------
I had brought QUITE the list of questions with me - some taken from the many profiles and personal websites I've seen here - and after a little while Dr. Vaughn seemed kind of "put off" by all the questions, at one point even asking me if this was that list that is online (he's obviously heard about! ha.) He eventually said that he had to go because he had another patient to talk to and that the patient counselor would finish up with me. She talked even faster than he did! Haha ------
I guess I felt a little rushed; although I can certainly try and understand the multitude of people Dr. Vaughn sees, the number of times a day he repeats the same information and answers the same questions - this isn't an every day decision for me to make. And when it's all said and done, I (along with my husband, family and other loved ones) live with the results of this procedure - good, bad or otherwise - and if it takes me 3 hours to ask 200 questions before I feel that I know all I need to know, than I kinda feel entitled to that? ------
Ok, I'm done venting about that and I really don't want it to appear that I was unhappy with Dr. Vaughn because overall, both my husband and I were very pleased. And trust me, I'll know all I need to before having surgery! I know in the end, it's really MY responsibility to learn all I can, get any questions I have answered, be a prepared pre-op and pro-active post-op.
~~~~~~ POST-OP Just a side note to say I was and am VERY pleased to have had Dr. Vaughn as my surgeon. He was upbeat and positive during my entire hospital stay. My husband and family seemed very comfortable with him also. I've never had major surgery before but my husband said Dr. Vaughn did an excellent job on my incision. ------
He's been so very supportive in my post-op visits and his office has always returned any calls I've made to answer any questions I had -- I even had a nurse call me back just from seeing my name and number on their caller ID!! I hadn't even left a message but she called back to make sure I wasn't having any problems, now THAT really impressed me!!!!
WOW!!!!!!THAT WAS MY FIRST IMPRESSION (HES VERY HANDSOME). HE ENTERED THE ROOM WITH CONFIDENCE WHICH PUT ME AT EASE. I AM A NURSE OF 22 YEARS AND I THREW EVERY QUESTION AT HIM I COULD THINK OF. I FELT THAT THIS WAS THE RIGHT MOVE TO MAKE. THE OFFICE STAFF WAS KIND AND CONSIDERATE THEY ALSO MADE ME FEEL COMFORTABLE.SINCE I AM STILL PRE OP I HAVENT ADDRESSED EVERYTHING. I DID FEEL THAT THE INSURANCE DEPT. WAS A LITTLE SHORT WITH ME. HOW EVER WHEN U R WAITING FOR AN ANSWER IT IS STRESSFUL AND THAT IS SOME OF WHAT I HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH.
At first when I met with dr Vaughn, I was unsure. I didn't think that I was going to get along with him. He seemed so professional. Like he didn't have a personality, but then BEFORE the surgery, I saw his sense of humor. He is wonderful! He is VERY concerned and caring about how you are doing. A bit on the busy side, but he is great! I would refer anyone who is looking to do this surgery to him. He addresses everything with me about the aftercare and the risks that came along with the surgery. His bedside manner is wonderful as with the entire staff at Northwest Suburban Community hospital. I didn't want to leave even though they told me that I would get more rest when I was home. LOL.. That is true but I still liked all of them.. Kudos to that hospital.
MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR. VAUGHN WAS THAT HE WAS YOUNG,BUT VERY CONFIDENT AND MOST KNOWLEDGABLE. HE WAS VERY KIND AN PATIENT WITH ME AND MY HUSBAND, TIME DIDNT SEEM TO BE A BIG FACTOR, HE WANTED US TO BE SURE WE UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING AND ALL OUR QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED. HE HAS A WONDERFUL PERSONALITY AND IS A BIG RAMS FOOTBALL FAN SO HE HAS TO BE GOOD. I AM VERY GLAD I CHOSE DR. VAUGHN TO BE MY SURGEON. EVERYONE I CAME IN CONTACT WITH WAS REALY NICE AND MOST HELFUL. MY DAUGHTER HAD SURGERY THERE IN JAN. OF 2003. WE HAVE BEEN PLEASE WITH THE CENTER IN BELVDERE.THIS IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CENTER AND DR. AND ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD GOOD EXPERIENCES NOT EVERYONE MAY. PERSONALITIES ARE DIFFERNENT AND PEOPLE LOOK FOR DIFFERENT THINGS IN THEIR OWN PERSONAL DOCTORS.
I had my consultation on April 23 with Dr. Vaughn. He was late but I was not concerned as I knew he had patients he was visiting with before me. I first talked with the patient counselor. She began her spiel and spoke rather quickly and she seemed a little ill at ease. It took my asking questions to get her to slow down and relax. I was able to learn a lot from her by hearing of her experiences with the surgery and recovery.
When Dr. Vaughn finally came in he started out explaining the procedure and answering questions. He apologized for being late but the more we talked, the more I realized that he really wants patients to take as much time as they need to learn about and become comfortable with this life-changing decision. Also the more we spoke the more I saw of his sense of humor and we got along great. I like a doctor who can relate like an every day person and not cop a high and mighty attitude or throw large medical terms at a patient. Dr. Vaughn is very down to earth and I feel like he really knows what he is doing and that he really cares about the outcome of his patients.
