First impression was of a very competent Dr. with a great personality. My impression has'nt changed.
His office staff is great, and very helpful.
I haven't found anything about him that I don't like.
Future patients should know that Dr. Fallang is thoughtful and caring and has the wellfare of his patients always first.
Dr. emphasizes aftercare quite regularly. He has a support group that meets once a month and he is the one that runs it!
Brutally honest when it comes to the risks of surgery. I spent 4 hours in a seminar that was supposed to last 2 1/2! He covered everything and answered every question.
I would rate him at 9!
His surgical competence and bedside manner are both great! The best of both worlds. The one thing that I found was he doesn't always have the time to spend talking to you. His practice is growing by leaps and bounds and he is in the process of expanding his office and adding another surgeon to help.
I did not meet personally with Dr. Fallang prior to my surgery. The way he does it is he has many people come to an informational seminar in which he explains (for about 3 hours!) everything you ever wanted to know about obesity and surgery. At that time his office staff takes your insurance information and tells you what you'll need to do to get approval. So I did not meet him personally until the day after my surgery. This made me a little nervous because I thought he couldn't know anything about this person he was going to operate on. But I guess he must have reviewed my medical records prior to the surgery. However, if I had serious co-morbidities such as heart disease, diabetes, etc., I would have insisted on an appointment to review all this with him prior to my surgery. The office staff was extremely pleasant and courteous. I loved talking with them because this was the first time I'd ever been treated like a real human being with real feelings by people in the medical profession. They treated me with the utmost respect and dignity. However, they are extremely busy and it sometimes took several phone calls to get things done.
Dr. Fallang's pre-op and aftercare program is not as indepth and structured as some I have seen but I feel it is adequate. I was given a lot of information at his seminar and was also given a detailed diet to follow afterward. I was invited to call the office with any concerns I might have. I liked this relaxed, easy-going atmosphere and appreciated not having to "jump through hoops" for this doctor. I also liked their emphasis on the individuality of each patient. We were told repeatedly that each person's experiences and tolerances are different and that post-op weight loss and diet is highly individual. Dr. Fallang has a great bedside manner. He is very approachable and easy to talk to.
Very impressed when I first met him. I was picking up a friend from the hospital after her surgery & he took the time to sit down & talk w/ me about a specific concern I had w/ having the surgery. The staff is good at the office when you can get ahold of them - they are very busy!
Now that I am 7 months out from surgery I feel that I appreciate Dr. Fallang more now than then. He is very supportive & knowledgable about the post-op course & what to do
So far, I really feel good about my doctor. He was very detailed and honest at the information session, is experienced, and is personable ane open to questions. The staff was upbeat and kind, and seemed determined to help each patient receive the insurance approval they needed.
UPDATE: Now that I am postop, I can say emphatically that I recommend Dr. Fallang and his staff. They and the hospital made me feel like I was the most important person in the world. And that continues: I can call with a question and no one is ever impatient with me and the nurse always returns my call the same day. They have provided information that was complete and encouraging. I feel as if I am part of team--and my health is the goal!
I am very impressed with the entire staff of Dr. Fallang's office and Middletown Regional Hospital in Middletown Ohio. My surgery (Open RNY) was on June 2nd. Everything went "textbook", in Dr. Fallang's words. I was impressed with his bedside manner and his patience in communicating the realities of what to expect. He was very personable, did not speak to us above our heads, and was very reassuring about my progress. His office staff is first rate. My only complaint with the entire procedure was an unusually caustic OR recovery nurse that made my "coming to" VERY unpleasant. But, Middletown Hospital was very quick to assist me with my complaint, so I truly feel blessed to have chosen this particular hospital and physician. Please feel free to email me for more specific information.
So Far So Good. I'm totally impressed with the team
at Dr. Fallang's office. I haven't actually visited
with them in person yet as I am in Atlanta, GA
and they are in Ohio. So far Dr Fallang's staff
is by far the most patient and customer service oriented
staff I've encountered EVER! They have always
received my calls warmly and have always taken the time to
answer my questions in great detail. I'm scheduled
to attend one of Dr. Fallang's support/info sessions on
May 18th (a requirement before surgery)...I believe this
is awesome the way they require everyone to attend before
they operate on you. I'll let you know how it goes!
POST-OP:
Dr. Fallang was absolutely the best! He is so kind
and caring. He took so much time with my husband
and I at my bedside and was very straight up with me
and told me very bluntly and clearly what to expect.
Anytime I was uncertain about what was going
on in my body he would take the time to detail
the human body for me and break everything down at an
elementary level so I'd come away totally understanding
and feeling at ease. I got scared because my blood
pressure spiked, or so I thought...140/92 ...he said
that wasn't alarming considering the changes my body
is going thru and the anxiety I was feeling. He was so right
cuz now that I'm home and getting back into life my blood
pressure is back to normal. He really is a wonderful surgeon. I've
tried to follow everything he told me to do and so far
no vomitting, no nasea..not since the hospital...but even
in the hospital it was only once and it was mild.
Remember I had the surgery Laparoscopically...so the healing
time for this procedure is different than having the open
procedure. I must tell everyone though considering the Lap RNY that
having this done LAP doesn't mean 'WITHOUT PAIN'...I totally
thought I'd be up and out of the hospital day 2 and back to
myself...and that was soooo untrue! There is pain with this
procedure...but I guess it doesn't last as long as having
the Open procedure.
DR. FALLANG AND HIS STAFF WERE ALL WONDERFUL. HE IS A VERY PERSONABLE DOCTOR WHO IMMEDIATELY WON MY ATTENTION WITH HIS PERSONALITY.
I INITIALLY MET THEM ALL VIA PHONE & FAX. BY THE TIME I WENT TO THE ACTUAL CONSULTATION WITH DR. FALLANG, MY SURGERY DATE WAS SCHEDULED FOR THE NEXT WEEK.
HE WAS EXCEPTIONALLY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE PROCEDURE AND OTHERS THAT ARE OFFERED NATIONWIDE. HE WAS WELL INFORMED ON PAST PROCEDURES THAT HAVE BEEN DONE AND THE CURRENT PROCEDURES THAT ARE BEING PERFORMED NOW. HE DID NOT SUGAR COAT THE RISKS THAT ARE INVOLVED WITH SURGERY AND ADVISED THAT YOU CHECK IT OUT TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS WAS WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO. AS IT IS A MAJOR SURGERY!
HIS SEMINAAR EXPLAINED THE SURGERY IN GREAT DETAIL AS WELL AS ANY POST-OP CARE THAT YOU WILL NEED.
HIS OFFICE PROVIDED ME WITH LOTS OF HELPFUL INFORMATION (VIDEO, ETC) PRIOR TO MY SURGERY AND A POST-OP PACKET WITH ALL OF THE INFORMATION I WOULD NEED FOR AFTER I LEAVE THE HOSPITAL.
I RATE DR. FALLANG AND HIS STAFF A 10+!!!
