This is my second go round trying to get approved for WLS. I tried late last year and was not successful since UHC and my previous employer had an exclusion on the policy. Needless to say my employment there was terminated on my part because just to save a few dollars they don't meet the needs of their employees, so what's the point of having and paying for benefits if what you REALLY need isn't covered???? My new employer DOES cover WLS but unfortunately not with my previous choice of Dr. Wongsa.
I decided to consult with Dr. Carlos Ferrari and my husband and I both met met with him in March and were very happy we did. He was a very nice man and I really felt comfortable around him and his staff. Luly and Blanca are awesome and they are very caring, sensitive, and understanding about WLS issues. They all worked very closely together and put my worries at ease.We really didn't discuss too much about aftercare since I felt like we would talk about that at my next pre-op visit. His office was full of patients and I really enjoyed seeing all his patients at different stages of their journies. I definitely recommend Dr. Ferrari from what I have experienced so far. If I get approved I have to make a promise to all to keep my profile updated to a TEE!!!! I rate him a 10!
My first impression of Dr. Ferrari was that he was very nice and knowledgeable. I was pretty nervous but he put me at ease and answered all my questions. Blanca (his assistant) was great also (just like I'd heard). She was also very helpful and informative. So far they haven't really talked about aftercare but today was just the first visit. They asked a lot of questions and are now starting the pre-op testing.
Carlos is great! He did my VBG in 1999 and now he is going to do my revision. He has always been very kind and had a very soft hand with me. When I had my first surgery with him, the thing I remembered the most is that he made sure my scar was not too big.He knew I was so young and wanted me to feel okay about myself in a bathing suit soon! I am very pleased with him for the fact that I know he knows what he is doing and what he is takling about. But he does not talk much. It is kind of, you ask him and he tells you relationship. His office staff has always been very nice. After my RNY was over, I felt like I was his child, he took very good care of me. He has always had such a sweet bed side manner with me. Everytime I see him, he tells me to take care of my baby and speaks to me very kindly. Overall, he is a pretty good guy..he has to be for me to trust him with my life 2 times!
dr ferrari was quiet and listened well to my concerns.. took the time to describe the surgery and possible complications in detail. i felt very informed about all the possibilites. he also described my co morbid conditions and how my weight loss would effect the longevity and quality of my life.
the office staff were very good in helping me with my insurance approval process
the aftercare was really good and the group meetings really helped me re learn eating habits and social interaction
overall i would rate the care and expertise of my doctor and staff as very good.
When I first met Dr. Ferrari, I could tell that he was a caring individual. He was kind, smart, informative and efficient. But most of all, Dr. Ferrari's confidence and assurance is what I like the most. His office staff works well with him. It seems as though the office is like a small family. They communicated well with each other. I also appreciated the aftercare program that is in place for follow-ups and support group. I think that is important to not leave you hanging after surgery. His office staff made sure of follow-up calls and return messages promptly. That is also a plus. It makes you feel cared for and in good hands. He does talk kinda fast so you have to listen to him closely, but overall he is A+ in my book. I would say that his surgical competence is the best.
Dtr Ferrari is a superb physician. He is well-balanced and knowledgeable. His staff is excellent. Blanca and Luly are the best. They are attentive and helped the whole way. I saw the Doctor on Wednesday (12/01/04) and had my surgery on Tuesday (12/07/04.) It was relatively painless. Lap RNY four days in the hospital at Cy-fair. Be careful - let them know how much pain you are in. I love Doctor Ferrari - I highly recommend a consult with him. He has been such a blessing to me. He really does have the best interest of his patients at heart.
One visit so far with Dr Ferrari and he was very personable. He allowed time for questions and answered each with terms I could understand. His office staff, Luly and Blanca, were awesome the day of the visit and have since called me several times and have been very supportive. So far, I would rate Dr Ferrari and staff a 10.
