I have always loved Dr.Bruderer. I have worked with him over the past few years and I feel he is the best there is. His staff are great. He and his staff make sure you know everything about the surgery. He is blunt and honist about the risks and benifits. He also lets you know he is there for you at any time and if he is not available there is someone in his office that will be there 24-7. I think his after care program is getting better. I think it would be helpfull to see a dietician but this is not a requirement of Dr.B. Overall, I feel he is the best Doctor in the world. I would not have let anyone else preform this on me. I feel his surgical competence is a little better than his bedside manner but I feel that is because he is busy and he is to the point and gone. He is a wonderful Doctor and I thank God for him every day.
My first impression of Margie(Dr. B's nurse) was I didn't understand her...she talked so fast. But soon I realized how informative and wanting to help she was. I think the docs office is very busy, so I took it upon myself to make sure I had everything in order BEFORE I had my consult. Dr. B was nice and to the point. He tells it like it is.
so far i have met with dr bruderer once for consultation. he was polite and gave me alot of verbal information regarding the surgery he will do . he seems well informed and kind.
his nurse, margy also seems to be nice. at first i thought she was pretty flighty and not real professional but i have dealt with her twice since regarding my insurance and other questions and she was very professional and concerned. i guess i was just pretty nervous the first time i met her.
dr. bruderer and his nurse both emphasized that complications can occur and that any surgery is a risk.
due to my initial impression of flightyness, i contacted a friend who is also a dr and asked about dr bruderer. he gave a great recommendation and stated that dr bruderer has great skill and alot of experience. this helped me to feel more secure with my choice of dr.s
I had my first consult with Dr. B on 1/30/01, he and his nurse Margie were very thourough. They spent a lot of time answering all my questions. They also seem to truly care about helping people to achieve long term weight loss.
He thouroughly explained the procedure and what to expect before and after. He also outlined the risks of surgery.
Margie was very helpful with information about what the insurance companies expect and the criteria that needs to be met for approval.
Overall my first visit went very well.
I think surgical competence is better but a good bedside manner doesn't hurt. And I feel very confident of Dr. B.'s surgical competence.
10/11/00 I have not as of yet met Dr. Howell, I have spoke to Cindy however. I found her to be a great help. She sent me all the information I needed and got me started on what I needed to do first. I am currently trying to get the 3 months supervised diet out of the way so I can get my surgery.
01/15/01 I have a surgical consult set up for Dr. Bruderer on 01/23/01. Once I meet with the surgeon, I will send in for a pre-authorization. I was going to see Dr. Howell, however, he had to go out for a hip replacement and would not be able to see anyone until May, so I went elsewhere. Margie, Dr. Bruderer's receptionist, is the nicest person. She is so forthcoming with information and so helpful. I look forward to meeting her.
01/29/01 I have met Dr. Bruderer. What a great guy! We, my husband and I, had a great conversation w/him. He answered all of our questions with patience and was very understanding of the concerns we had. Margie was an absolute delight! We had a great time talking with her, very down-to-earth and no-nonsense. We just have to wait for the pre-cert and then I can get my surgery scheduled!
Dr.B
Ok this is easy what I thought of him he is a Angel he is the best I could go on forever...... he is straight forward and will tell you the facts and will let you know the way it has to be! My impression of him pre op and post op are the same BUT his wings grew post op! I never had a doubt about him or his staff, OH I have forgot to mention his GREAT nurse Margi geezzzz what can I say I still think IF I could have half of your energy we would have never met and that would have been a crime. Your GRRREAT!
That should let you know how I feel about these people.
Just when you thought I was done telling you how GREAT My angels are I need to tell you about another one of my Angels. His name is Dr. Huber {like that name!} he is no relation but I would claim him in a minute

Update 07/23/00

I have only spoken with Dr. Bruderer over the phone, but when I called his office for more information on the procedure, the receptionist immediately transfered me to his nurse, and when I explained why I was calling, she immediately transfered me to the Doctor himself!!! I was very impressed with that. It is hard enough to speak with the nurse MUCH LESS the Doctor!! He was very informative on what the procedure is. He gave me a brief background of his training with Dr. Fobi. That helped to put me at ease with him. I will post more here after I meet with him at the consult, which, to the best of my understanding is going to be FREE...YES..I said FREE!!!! *S*

Update 07/25/00

I have met with Dr. Bruderer now, and he appears to be very honest and he knows what he is talking about. He basically told me what to expect from the procedure and what I would need to do afterwards as well as WHY some people do NOT succeed after having the procedure. He gave me a time line for what would need to happen from here on til after the procedure. Upon speaking with him, he did give his reasons on why he thinks the FOBI is the WLS to choose. I understand that this is MY decision, but I do agree with him that this is the procedure that I want done. He did explain the differences between the popular RNY and FOBI. I am not too hip on the RNY. He also explained why the FOBI should not be done laproscopically. Since he is a lap surgeon, I would have to agree with him. There are too many little details that need to be verified inside the body that sometimes and most times cannot be done laproscopically. I do not mind having the scar on my abdomen as that is by far a very small price to pay for having a healthy future to look forward to. Post-op, I will post my opinion of his skills for anyone wishing to select him as their surgeon. Till Then...*S* Stay Safe

Update 12-16-00

Ok...so let me talk about Dr. B. HE IS THE GREATEST!!! I could not have asked for a better surgeon. He is so encouraging also. I just went for my three month and he is happy with the results thus far. The scarring is minimal also. His wife is awesome as well. I think Margie handles all of the people issues while he concentrates on the technical aspects of the procedure. I think that is a great plan of attack at anything. Thanks for everything!!
Dr. Bruderer is very matter-of-fact and to the point. He was careful in detailing that this surgery is no "walk in the park" and wants the patient to be sure what they are committing to. He is assisted by his wife, Margie, a tiny little dynamo who gets things done. He answers questions and doesn't mince his words. I felt very comfortable with him.
BEING I WORK AT MEDCENTER ONE I KNEW DR.B.
BRUDERER (I ASKED HIM TO DO MY MOM'S COLON
