My first impression was that he was very knowledgable and helpful. He did a wonderful job of informing potential patients of the surgery, details to receive approval from Insurance, etc.
His office staff was very friendly and helpful Willing to answer all questions.
Dr. Bruderer and his staff have extensive handouts for information that they present to you during an informational meeting. Once you see him in the office, they give you a binder that has almost everything covered from before the surgery, what to expect during the surgery and hospital stay, all aspects of aftercare and diet.
Yes, he informs you of the risks associated with surgery at the first informational meeting.
So far, I would rate him very high. My only complaint is that he didn't help me when I had to send an appeal to my insurance company. I felt he should have come to my aid. I had to write my own appeal letters.
I haven't had the surgery yet, so I'm unsure about his bedside manner and surgical competence.
Dr. Bruderer can come across a little growly but he really is very nice with a somewhat dry sense of humor. He is extremely meticulous about his patients and the nurses at Med Center one even told me that. The office staff are super. They return calls and find answers out.
The only difficulty I had with Dr. Bruderer was that I asked him to explain something to me and he said I wouldn't understand making me feel like he thought I couldn't grasp it.
The nutritionist is nice to work with. I don't feel there is sufficient aftercare. I had developed some problems so saw him a few times but there wasn't any requirement to see him unless I had problems.
He explained all the risks.
I felt like he really wanted to take care of me and all my complications. I appreciated the fact that he didn't want any other doctor to work on me if my problems were gastric bypass related as he knew my insides the best. I also was relieved that he never tried to rush me out of the hospital until I was ready since I lived 3 hours away.
I don't know if he reads these but I do have faith in him. I just wish he would require annual visits just to be sure things are going as they should. (I just want to see your pretty face, Dr. B...much better without the beard).
Thanks
Melody
Only two visits so far, excellent communicator, supportive staff, questions answered not glossed over, took time to speak with me. Nothing to not like about surgeon or his support staff, I have another appointment on the 26th of October.
Aftercare is stressed!!! This is not a cure all it is only a tool to be used wisely. Dr Bruderer is committed to a 4 week eating plan before you are scheduled for surgery and will not tolerate weight gain. Surgery will be canceled if he believes you gained weight on purpose or ate like it was your last meal for the past 4 weeks. Stress the protein drink and vitamins. No nonsense approach, discusses in depth the life style change and the health risks and benefits. Does not try to push you into a decision one way or the other. So far I can only say I am more then just condident with him.
Dr. Bruderer is a very kind doctor. He tells you mater of a factly everything that you should expect with your surgery. I highly respect Dr. Bruder,he is very professional. His office staff is very kind and always there if you have any questions. I belive most all future patients would like him. Dr. Bruderer told me this is a life change and to take advantage of it. I follow the book I recieved from his staff and have had no problems. Dr. Bruderer addressed the risks of the surgery and the gains. I would rate him a very good doctor. Dr. Bruderer is just great all around.
The first time I had ever seen Dr. Bruderer was at the informational session I attended in July.He was very knowledgable and easy to understand as he explained the process of weight loss surgery. He has done over 700 gastric bypass surgeries which definitely made me feel really good about the possibility of him performing wls on me.It was refreshing to find out that he also has a sense of humor. In August,I met with both his nurses, Judy and Deb, before I had a one-on-one with Dr. Bruderer. They were both awesome and very nice.Once again,Dr. Bruderer explained exactly what the RNY surgery entails. He did discuss the risks of surgery, but the benefits are much greater in my mind.He was very matter-of-fact and when he told me this could add 10 years to my life, I knew I was doing the right thing. His nurse sent a 3-ring binder full of information regarding all aspects of the surgery;before, during, and after.Up to this point,Dr. Bruderer has not given me any reason to doubt his surgical abilities or form an opinion about his bedside manner since I haven't had the surgery yet.
I was very impressed with the professionality of both Dr. Bruderer and all the associates. They were all very caring, and very nice when I called in with problems, if I had any. Now, I can go in and get weighed still and get a little encouragement if I need it. I did hit my weight loss goal and am still losing. Dr. Bruderer is a life savior. Hats off to you. He has great bedside manner and surgical competance. He's one of the best doctors, and he has the ability and caringness of working with the obese population.
Dr. Bruderer is an excellent surgeon. Very knowledgeable. His support staff is beyond any words that I can fathom. Judy and Deb are both FANTASTIC. Dr. Bruderers staff gives very good documented information to assist with post op. He sat with me and discussed risks. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Bruderer to anyone considering this surgery. Both his bedside manner and surgical competence greatly exceed any expectations that I had.
