Dr. DeWitt seems to be a wonderful surgeon. I was impressed by his caring attitude and seriousness in explaining everything to me. His staff has been great as well!

My first impression was he was very professional but down to earth and friendly. Not many doctors make you happy to visit and he does. He always has a smile and a great sense of humor.
His office staff are so friendly and easy to talk to over time it feels like they are your extended family not just nurses and staff.
He also lets you know the truth. If you are doing something wrong he will tell you honestly what you should be doing. So prepare to hear the truth.
I would totally tell anyone that is considering gastric bypass and is close to see Dr. DeWitt he is very talented and he doesn't do anything he knows he can't do.
He is at a great hospital that has a floor just for patients. Comfortable and thoughtful for overweight people. He also has a great support group and ask people to take part in this group. He did prepare me that there could be risks but he wasn't expecting any and there wasn't. He is all about excellence in my opionion and that is what he deals with. He is an AWESOME doctor. He visited me in the hospital he also scheduled my surgery to be the only one that day so I felt awful special :o) He has a great team lined up with him a lot of doctors that I guess is training with him at the hospital so you see a lot of people that are checking on you. Also great nurses overall at the hospital.
Everything about Dr. Andrew DeWitt is great so far and I would not trade this for the world. These are my thoughts and impressions of how he did for me.

I met with my surgeon, Dr. Andrew DeWitt at Carraway Methodist Medical Group in Birmingham on August 17th, 2005. The first impression I had of him was very caring and a genuine concern for his patients. I met him on the 13th of August at the hospital's WLS mandatory seminar. I called on the following Monday to make an appointment and was in to see him on Wednesday.

His office staff, some of which have had the surgery by him, are very helpful and thoughtful. No funny looks or crazy attitudes. He examined me and asked a lot of questions concerning my general health and questions concening female problems.

He stresses aftercare very strongly. After your first required visits up to that first year, he requests that you make an annual appointment for the following 5 years so that he can keep up with your progress/situation. I could hear him talking to other patients and he was the same with all of us. Always smiling, very concerned about our health and making sure that if we were getting ready for surgery, that our bodies were ready.

My overall opinion of Dr. DeWitt is that he has a very kind heart, is a good surgeon (having done at least 2000 surgeries of this nature) and has a bedside manner that I wish most doctor's had.

I am pleased that I will be one of his patients and am looking at having surgery in roughly 3 weeks. Because I am on Medicare, I do not have to go through the approval process as with other insurances. WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!!!.

My first impression was that he was treating me like a human. He was great. He acted like I was his only patient.
Over time he treated me the same and made me feel comfortable.
The staff at his office are great and friendly. They dont act like they are put out by you they are always willing to help you.
I dont have any complants or anything I wasnt satisified with.
Just relaxe he will take care of you.
He came to see me everyday I was in the hospital and on my first night after surgery he came in about 10:30 that night to tell me he was going home for the night but if I needed him he would come right back.
He Does have an after care program that he gives on your first visit and when you are leaving the hospital. It is a day by day program that really helps you.
He will explain the risk of surgery without make you worry yourself sick. I was completely comfortable with the risk after talking to him.
Overall I would say he is the best doctor I have ever visited in my life. Friendly and understanding. He also keep my family informed about everything so that they wouldnt worry.
He was great with EVERYTHING!!!!

I can't say enough great things about Dr DeWitt. He was recommended by a friend and she was exactly right. Dr DeWitt is a very experienced surgeon of RNY. He is smart, caring and one feels comfortable with him right away. He is very big on aftercare and also wants us to be educated as to what we are doing - before and after the surgery. He described the risks involved.

His office staff is wonderful. Each person I have talked with that are on the staff are very helpful and friendly.

I would definitely recommend him to anyone to go have a consultation with him and have him do their surgery!

I would definitely recommend Dr. DeWitt. I is very professional and has a great bedside manner. He is serious about what he does and seems to be very thorough in getting everything done necessary before recommending you for surgery. I felt like he really cared about me and not just getting patients to have the surgery. Dr. Dewitt stresses the importance of aftercare and they do have a structured aftercare program in place. He does a very thorough seminar where he answers any and all questions you may have with great sincerity.
He address all areas pre-op, post-op and diet.

His staff was very good and they seem to really know their stuff. They are always willing and able to assist you in whatever you need. I give my experience a 10 out of 10.

***This may not be a negative comment but my suggestion is to have all questions wrote down. Some things you may want to know but with all things considered, it is up to you to ask any questions you have or concerns. Sometimes I thought the office visits were too brief but they were as brief as I made them. NO question is a dumb question and stay on top of your business.

My first impression of Dr. Dewitt was a good one. He was easy to talk to and did not rush me at all, he took his time and answered all my questions and made sure that I knew how risky this surgery could be. My impression has not changed.

My First impression of Dr. Dewitt was that he knows what he is doing and he truly cares about his patients. He takes every precaution to make sure that you are going to do your very best after surgery. He has a wonderful bedside manner and his office staff is great! He has a very structured and wonderful aftercare program. He works with the hospital with this also. They also do a pre-op program too. As a matter of fact he will not do the surgery until you sign up and start the classes. He is very knowledgeable and I rate him on a scale of 1-10 a 10! Dr. D is awsome!
