I watched a video on Obesity. It was informative. His staff was very nice. When I met Dr Dewitt, I was impressed with his demeanor and professionalism. He had performed the surgery on my daughter a year ago, so she was with me for support.
We had the consultation and reviewed my medications, and past surgery history. He took notes, asked me a few questions and I asked him a few questions. He's very congenial and helpful. He agreed that I would be a candidate for the surgery and I was ELATED!! In my excited bouncing out of the office, I forgot to pay for the visit. I got almost home and realized I didn't pay. I went back the next day and they understood how easy it was for me to forget.
Surgical Competence and Bedside manner are BOTH important to me. I like for my doctor to have a good bedside manner and put himself on my level when we talk and not talk above my head. We're both people who should be respected equally.
I HAD MY INITIAL CONSULT WITH DR DEWITT ON 11-19-02. HE IS VERY NICE AND WILL GIVE YOU EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ON THIS FIRST VISIT. I VIEWED A VIDEO ON THE SURGERY THAT WAS 30 MINUTES LONG BUT VERY INFORMATIVE. MY INSURANCE APPROVED ME ON 12-13-02 SO IT TOOK ALMOST A MONTH, NOT TOO BAD I GUESS. MY PREOP APPT WAS 2-4-03 AND MY SURGERY IS SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY 2-17-03!!! I LOVE DR DEWITT AND WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE. THE OFFICE STAFF ARE FRIENDLY ENOUGH I GUESS, NOT REALLY THRILLED WITH THE PERSONALITY OF ONE OR TWO PEOPLE BUT IT COULD BE ME BEING NERVOUS. OVERALL I FEEL VERY CONFIDENT IN DR DEWITT AND HIS SURGICAL ABILITIES/BEDSIDE MANNER GREAT, MAKES YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE AND AT EASE.
i was very impressed with him, he took the time to answer any questios i had; thus far i still have the same impression; friendly to a point, they need someone in the office that has first hand knowledge of the surfery; i haven't found any thing yet that i dislike about him; he is very nice, patient, caring, concerned, knowledgble person; he makes it a point that aftercare is very important; don't know yet; he told me the risk and that many things can happen as a result of surgery and thay i should go home and think real hard about this decission;thus far he is a 10 on my scale; both, he makes you feel comfortable that he knows what he is doing and he makes you feel like a human not just a number
I really liked Dr. deWitt as soon as i met him. He greeted me with a big smile and a firm handshake. He answered almost all of my questions before I could even ask them. He did a thourough physical and history. He gave me pleny of time to ask any questions at all i need to ask. His nurse was very nice/polite. I liked Dr. Dewitt alot and feel fortunate to have chosen him. The people who answer the phone in his office were discouraging when I called for an appt. but the day I was there to see him they were fine. He explained the risk of the surgergy very well going into details. Overall I would rate him a 10. TOPS. I have no negative comments at all except my appointment was for 3:00 PM and I didn't see him until almost 5:30 PM but that happens everywhere at some time or other.
My first impression of Dr. Dewitt was that he was not only informative about the surgery, he was also interested in all questions I had. He was not in any hurry. I could have stayed five minutes or five hours was how I was treated. He wanted to make sure I was comfortable and that I had researched surgery and he was down to earth and extremely easy to talk too. I am now two weeks post-op and my impression of him has not changed. He gives excellent care for every situation that I have encountered. The staff was friendly and helpful and I enjoyed how attentive they were to the needs of patients. Future patients should trust that they are great hands. Dr. Dewitt does not leave any room for error if you follow his instructions. I felt safe. Aftercare is more important than the decision to have surgery. Anyone can decide to have surgery, but if you do not know what to do afterwards, then you are in trouble. Dr. Dewitt and his staff are available for any questions, follow-up is essential, and he and a nutritionist talks with you about what you can and can not eat and how this is a lifestyle change, a tool. Surgery is not taken lightly, he explains to you the risks, both the good, bad, and even the ugly. You know going into this what could happen in every situation. I would rate Dr. Dewitt with an A+, I have no regrets in him as my surgeon. His surgical competence and his bedside manner are both great. Sometimes surgeons do not have a bedside manner, and often seem as though they don't care about the patient, but I can honestly say that with Dr. Dewitt he seemed like a friend, he made me feel comfortable, I felt informed, and a part of the decision making process. I never felt he did not explain things or left things out. He has both, bedside manner, and great surgical competence. In my opinion he was a great choice for me and my needs.
I really liked Dr. Dewitt from the first time that I met him. He seems very warm, kind, and easy to talk to. I did have some initial communication problems with his office staff but this could easily be explained by the fact that his main surgery scheduler had to have emergency surgery and was out for several weeks. Unfortunately, my paperwork for insurance approval fell victim to her emergency surgery. It was easily remedied and I have been pleased with his office staff since then. He does not have a structured aftercare program, although they are supposed to be starting one in the next couple of months.
Dr. DeWitt was really wonderful. I had a bad experience with the first doctor that I went to and Dr. DeWitt was very patient and understanding. He explained everything to me and answered all of my questions. My first doctor was not very experienced at bypass surgery and my insurance company had denied me.
The office staff is wonderful. Judy and Bonnie have both been extremely helpful and concerned.
