I had had experience with Dr. DeWitt prior to my surgery as both my daughters and son-in-law had had gastric bypass before me. I was impressed with his knowledge and caring manner. He spent plenty of time answering questions and made sure you were aware and informed of the proceedure. He was incistant upon your attenting preparation classes and recieving literature prior to the surgery. My son in law was over 400 lbs and he did everything to be able to perform his surgery laproscopicly. I was impressed with his commitment to doing whatever was best for the patient even though it meant more work for him. He was instrumental in hiring a bariatric coordinator, who is wonderful and very supportive. She has started all kinds of programs both presurgery and post at Carraway for bariatic patients. Dr. DeWitt has backed her all the way. We have an active support group and Dr. DeWitt even covered the cost of the rental of the pavillion out of pocket for our Halloween get together. I have only good things to say about him in every way and recommend him to everyone I meet.
I have seen Dr. DeWitt twice. Once in a seminar and then at my initial consultation. I was referred to him by three friends, two of whom have had gastric bypass surgery done by him last summer. He seems to be a kind, caring, man. He asked a lot of questions and then gave me the chance to ask questions. He also seems to be very thorough. I have already been for several pre-op tests, a psychological evaluation, and I am scheduled for a physical therapy exam and a nutritional session on January 5. I am older (55) so he made sure I understood that the risks were greater for me. He requires follow up visits and suggests you join a support group following surgery. I am excited about the prospect of surgery every though I know the risks are greater. I think it will save my life!!
I met Dr DeWitt at his seminar and I have to say he was great. He didn't start in with " you have to loose 100 pounds before I will help you". He can actually smile and laugh and its not fake. You would have to understand the last six months of my life to understand that statement. Overall I think hew will be wonderful. He has a very strict aftercare program that I think will benefit me greatly.
As far as the office staff, I have met Judy and Johanna and they also are great. They are interested in me and that means alot.
12/3 I am convinced that Dr DeWitt is the best. He has more compassion than any dr I have ever met, yet he is also very strict. He has the most wonderful attitude and his staff is excellent.
Dr DeWitt is very compassionate and kind. He is an awesome man. I think if it hadn't been for him, I would not have made it through my surgery as well as I did. Also, he helped me quit smoking. That within itself helped my health! I have to go back to him in two weeks, and then I am not sure of the rest of the appointment times. When I was in my consultaion, I asked him how long his aftercare was, and his comment was, "as long as you feel you need to see me". That's the kind of doctor I want. His staff has great classes that you attend before surgery to tell you what to expect, as well as what to eat before and after surgery. They have also set up a web group for all of us along with support group meetings on Saturdays. Overall, I give Dr. DeWitt and his staff an A+++++ or Five Stars - he is the best!
I met with Dr. DeWitt July 1, 2003. I had talked to a couple of his patients and they were very pleased with him. I do not consider myself to be easily impressed but when I met DrWitt I too thought he was great. I had a list of questions and he answered them all and even made a copy of them. I did not feel rushed and he seem to understand my concern about the surgery. I had already met with two surgeons and I just couldn't feel comfortable with them doing my surgery. His nurse Judy is wonderful and his staff is very nice.I had my surgery July 22, 2oo3 ( Things moved so fast, even me getting an appointment to see Dr. DeWitt I know God had a hand in things.)and everything went wonderful with the surgery, I have not had the sickness like some patients do. Now for my complaints. I did not like the hospital (Carraway). The nutritonist I met with was fine in the group meeting and said, if you have any question call, "I will meet you in the grocery store if I need too". Well, I call her three or four time and never got a call back, glad I didn't need for her to meet me in the grocery store or I would still be waiting. I would liked to have had more detail on a diet after surgery for good weight loss results and also what to expect as far as pounds lost on the average each month. Post Op Dr. DeWitt is in and out of the room quickly, so have your question listed or you want have time to ask them. The Bariatric Coordinator, Debbie Estep is WONDERFUL. She was the last face I saw before I had my surgery and was timely returning my call. I would do it all again and with Dr. DeWitt as my doctor.
I was very impressed with Dr. DeWitt at our consultation. I didnt have alot of questions because I had researched this so much. He seems so personable and I think that is important in a doctor. The staff has been great. The office visit wait is long, but if I were in surgery, I wouldnt want him rushing to get to his office for other patients, so I understand that.......
Dr. Dewitt is wonderful. The first time we met him he made us feel that he was truely interested in us as "people" not just patients. He is compassionate and caring, but knows the surgery inside out. I would recommend him to anyone considering this surgery. His office staff is so good they will aways talk with you any time and answer all your questions...even if you call everyday...lol just an inside joke for JUDY!!!!
Dr. Dewitt is very strict about his after care he doesn't complicate it, it is a simple plan to follow but you must follow it to heal properly and succeed in this journey
On a scale of 1-10 I would rate him a 11.
