Dr. Gandsas is absolutely amazing!! He is so nice and listens to what you say. The office staff at Sinai is also fantastic. They are by far the nicest secretaries, nurses, and doctors that I have ever been to. Dr. Gandsas doesn't \"BS\" you at all and will tell you like it is. He is very intelligent and not pompus about it. I would definitely recommend him to anyone contemplating surgery. Everything about him is amazing :)
My first impression of Dr. Gandsas and the Mt. Sinai surgical team was great. The office was obviously busy, however, the staff was friendly and efficient. The waiting room was filled with comfortable chairs that weren't restrictive. At least 2 of the staff members have undergone bariatric surgery so it really feels like the people in the office are not only knowledgeable but really sympathetic to the woes of being obese.rnrnDr. Gandsas was also friendly and to-the-point, but not in a way that made me feel like just a dollar sign or just another surgery. He asked which surgery i was considering and after looking over my info, agreed w/ my decision as the sleeve being a very viable and good choice. He explained to me how the next 6 months would go since i hadn't completed the 6 months mandatory weight loss and handed me over to a member of his staff that gave me a packet of pre-op testing i'd need (EKG, barium swallow, etc.).rnrnSince then, i've gone to the office every month for a quick meet with Dr. Gandsas and to weigh-in so that we could have documentation for the insurance. Although it was hard to get specific information about insurance requirements (the person handling that was retiring and busy training a new person), my overall experience has been great. rnrnFor future patients, It seems that Dr. Christina Li (the other surgeon), is out on maternity leave. Dr. Gandsas has taken on all her patients, however, the only change i've really seen is that i'm now having a couple 'group' weigh-ins a month for all patients needing documentation. its not a big deal and it hasn't worried me about my standard of care. rnrnThe aftercare components appears to be extensive. After speaking with the dietician i've found that there is a large network of support groups and activities associated w/ those groups. Also, the $150 program fee covers unlimited meetings with the dietician for up to a year after your surgery, which was the lowest program fee i found and she is very good and nice. rnrnThe only really frustrating thing was trying to get started with the sinai group. I went to the initial seminar, filled out all the paperwork, and sent it in, however, no one called me about setting up an appointment. When i called, i was told they had not received it but i should give it a week. I ended up waiting 2 weeks and they still hadn't gotten it. I was told to bring it the seminar that day and hand it personally to one of the program directors ( who perfusedly apologized for my inconvenience). When i arrived at the seminar, i was told that my packet info had been found and that she had personally tracked it down. i got an appointment a few weeks later. The whole incident put me back 1 month, but, the handled the whole thing very well and was very apologetic. Nothing of the sort has ever occurred again.
My first impression of Dr \"G\" was one of comfort and knowledge.Dr \"G\" will make sure that you are fully aware of the procedure's risks and advantages. The only negative thing that may be said is that you may have to wait for a little time while in the office for a visit. The Bariatric team at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore are very friendly and helpful. The moment you call the office to the time you leave the hospital after surgery your experience will be one of satisfaction.Dr Gandsas office staff is very willing to go the extra step to make sure you are fully prepared to make your life altering decisions.Dr Gandsas will make sure that you are feeling 100% before you are released home after surgery and you can be assured that the hospital staff will always cater to your every need.My experience at Sinai Hospital was a very satisfied one.
When I first met Dr.Gandsas, my first impression was that he had a pleasant personality, down to earth, easy to talk to and, an excellant bedside manner. Even if he came to my bedside by robot, he was still excellant. The office staff is prompt and efficient, there is never a long wait for vitals or anything. The only thing I would say to future patients, is that you must follow all instructions that Dr.Gandsas tells you, so that your surgery will be a success. In order to have successful aftercare you must read the information packets and pay attention to your discharge instructions and you can't go wrong. Also, you must attend at least three Weight-loss seminars in order to have the proper knowledge of this life changing experience. Dr.Gandsas explained every risk there is when this doing major surgery. Dr.Gandsas has completed close too 550 patients Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass surgeries, out of these only 3 patients he had to cut open. I would recommend Dr.Alex Gandsas/ Sinai Bariatric Surgery Program to everyone. On a scale from 1-10, I would give the surgeon and the program an (11).rnrnThank you for changing my life.
Dr Gandsas has been wonderful! I started this journey in late September and just had surgery on 11/14/07. His staff are supportive, helpful & incredibly enthusiastic. They are willing to answer any question & sincerely want to help & they also know who you are & what part of the process you are on. Dr. Gandsas has a great manner about him & seems truly vested in every person who comes to see him. He is matter-of-fact about the surgery and helps his patients make the best choice for the type of surgery. After surgery, he visited me by robot which was surprising, but great because he could follow-up with me from home & make any changes needed which added to his supportive manner. He is always respectful of his patients & makes you feel successful regardless of your decision. 1 week post-op & I have no pain & am going back to work. Looking forward to continuing with the support programs available to post-op patients. Thanks!
I first met Dr. Gandsas at a seminar at Sinai hospital discussing weight reduction procedures. I though Dr. Gandsas was very passionate about helping people through weight reduction surgery. This was in March of 07 and he performed my surgery in June of the same year. The staff is very professional and will go out of thier way to help clear roadblocks during the pre-op testing that is required. I can't count the number of times Eileen faxed something over to a doctors office or made an appointment on my behalf...she was a savoir! My stay at Sinai was brief which included a visit from \"Bari\" Dr. Gandsas mobile video/audio robot that is used to check-up on post op patients. Prior to my surgery I was guided through the process and what would be expected of me pre & post surgery. This included seminar's one to one meetings with Dr.Gandsas and the Dietitian Nancy Lum and numerous documentation that I could read on at my leisure. I would rate the Bariatic team at Sinia Hospital in Baltimore Maryland a 11 on a scale from 1-10!
My first impression of Dr. Gandsas was that he was a very sincere and caring physician. He thoroughly listened to you and offered suggestions as to the best way to help you. I can not thank him enough - because I truly believed that he saved my life - not only once but twice. This repair surgery helped me keep real food down (had a previous lap band surgery 23 years ago and my esophagus had become so constricted that I could not keep food down). Also while in the hospital I had a reaction to a medication and had become dehydrated after the surgery. Dr. Gandsas picked up on this right away on my follow-up visit the next week and immediately administered IV fluids in his office. If I had waited - I am not sure what the outcome would have been. Dr. Gandsas and his dietician (Nancy Lum) have been a lifesaver to me - not only am I keeping food down now - but I am exercising and losing weight the proper way. Thank you both!!
My first impression was that I was familiar with the doctor through someone else's surgery. My impression changed after he performed my surgery(which was quite impressive). The office staff is very friendly and knowledge about the bariatic surgeries. The patient should know that Dr. Gandsas is quite pleasant & knowlegeable about his work. The aftercare was also unbelievable having the doctor as experieneced as the doctor. Yes, the aftercare program is wonderful, considering you have the use of a nurse, nutritionist and the doctor(s) at your service. The doctor described the procedure in detail (the pros and cons). The overall would be 100% The surgical competence, bedside manners are great. I enjoyed the robot, which was quite an amazing machinery, it was as if the doctor himself was present. All I can say is that I am quite gratiful for the procedure and the amazing doctor that performed the surgery.
The surgeon was kind, very competent and professional. Dr. Gandsas has a very full load of patients and it is hard not to sense that. Nonethess he answered every question and the staff was helpful, especially Phillys Johns who was awesome.rn My isurance would not cover and it was a bit unarming that I had to have the funds in cash prior to surgery (no credit cards). There was also no paperwork up front, they said only at the time payment is made would I get a breakdown or something showing for what I was paying over $22,000.00. The hospital (Sinai) does have provisions for a payment plan, and they do take credit cards...but in this case all money was collected through Dr. Gandsas office, and they paid hospital and anestheseligist...oh well. When I went in with my cashier's check and made the payment, I asked agin why this procedure. I was told point blank,,,\"so people don't shop the surgery\" ! Pretty gross in my mind, but I guess that is just the reality of \"business\". rnIn any case I am very very happy with my decision to have WLS and know I am very fortunate to have been able to borrow and make this work.
