My first contact with Dr. Gandsas was in November 2004 and I found him very knowledgeable and sympathetic about the problems that obese people have.
After our first meeting I was even more impressed with him. I had every questions answered most before even asking. My stay in the hospital was made much more pleasant by his frequent visits, some times as many as three in a day. Dr. Gandsas has set up very extensive pre and post-op support groups and requires attendance prior to surgery. Also part of the program includes meetings with a nutritionist both prior to and after surgery. Dr. Gandsas requires very extensive pre-op testing and explains each test and there necessity. He explained all the risks of surgery in terms I could understand and made sure you understood everything. Dr. Gandsas has a fantastic bedside manner and his surgical ability is the best. I had almost no pain at all!! The only thing I can say is Dr. Gandsas is GREAT GREAT GREAT. One visit and you will see for yourself
My first impression of Dr Gandsas was he was very soft spoken and nice. After meeting him for my first visit, he listen and asked me my what I thought about the surgery. He answered every question I had before I could even ask them. I love everything about Dr Gandsas. He kept my family informed during surgery and he came to visit me everyday while I was in the hospital and asked how I was doing, not relying on the nurse for an update.I think future patients should do there research and while sitting in the waiting room ask others of there experience, you may learn something new or it may leave you with questions to ask. Dr Gandsas makes sure you know all risk involved, he speaks about them in your last office visit before the surgery and he also request you attend at least 3 seminars before you have the surgery and you learn more about the surgery itself, the different options, and risk. If I must rate him, I would say he is the best.
Dr. Gandasa is a very young doctor who main focus informed about the good, bad and the ugly of this surgery.I have a skin problem called psorisis and I take Enbral for it. He looked in his plam pilotand laptop for how this would effects me before he would tell me about what was going to happen to me.I like the fact that he was very honest with me.
Every question I ask him or his staff was answered without heistation.
The staff members are have a aftercare program in place for the rest of your life!
I WOULD DO THIS AGAIN AS LONG AS IT WAS WITH THE SAME STAFF MEMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My first impression of Dr. Gandsas was how friendly and personable he is.Any questions that you may have he address them with no problem. The office staff are very friendly and helpful.Patients who come to him should know that he is a very good doctor who will do a very good job with your care.He lets you know the risks of surgery and goes over those risks with you.Overall i would give him an a+.
It has been almost 15 months since surgery. I was one of the first group of patients done by Dr. Gandsas when he came to Sinai. He is an excellent surgeon; I followed along with the program, and lost all the weight I needed to. As time passes by, and my life has changed, I realize just how far I have come since December, 2003 and my first meeting with Dr. Gandsas. His interest in my progress has not changed since the first day i met him. My best advice to all the newbies out there is to keep things in perspective. The surgery is one day of your life... the rest is up to you.
I first met Dr. Gandsas on 2/01/05 for my initial consultation. I found Dr. Gandsas and his staff to be very pleasant and informative. Karen Sweeney, RN guided me with completing all required tests prior to my surgery date on 3/10/05. I also found that the support group meetings held on the first monday of the month were helpful. Meetings with Nancy Lum, RD prepared my body for the "life style" change for meals, medications, and exercise. Following Nancy's instruction, I was able to lose 14 pounds between 2/01/05 and 3/10/05.
Dr. Gandsas is very supportive and thorough. One of the things that I remember at a support meeting that he stated was that after the surgery, we should consider him as a husband , because of the support and visits that will follow after surgery. I would recommend him to all that are interested in wls and have made a decision that they are going to do what is needed to be successful before, during , and after surgery.
Dr. Gandsas and his staff and associates are very warm and friendly. My experience as a whole has been very satisfying. All of my questions and concerns were addressed. The program as a whole is comprehensive and thorough. It was a lengthy process to get to my surgery date but in all, I'm glad it took the time it did. From the date of my first pre-op meeting to my surgery date was 5 1/2 months.
Bottom line is that Dr. Gandsas is someone who knows exactly what he is doing. Stands by his work. Brings it all out on the table for you to know. It is confident and not at all cocky as a doctor. He means well, and his bedside manner is excellent in making a patient feel comfortable as they possibly can.
His staff is second to none. Nancy, the nutritionist is very knowledgable and seems to have kept to date with the current trends and happenings in the nitrution world. She has taught me so many tricks and so much so that I can not spend all day at a food lable and only focus on the main things. Cuts the fat and gets right to it ( No pun intended).
The whole staff is great, Karen , Eileen, and Paula all go out of there way to make sure they answer all your questions AND do whatever they can to make your life as easy as possible given that you are going to have the surgery.
Now you may spend some time waiting in the waiting room, but I truly believe that is only because the WHOLE TEAM is so thourgh and do not rush you in anyway whatsoever. They answer all questions and take as much time needed to make sure you understand it all.
Dr. Gandsas and Staff - I rate them a 10.
2/8/05 -
I met him briefly at his meeting last night.
3/25/05 -
I went to my consult and there was a little confusion. But it was settled quickly. I really liked everyone there. Dr. Gandsas is reaaly cool and has a good sense of humor. Paula is the coolest and helped get me in with Nancy quickly. Karen was wonderful in helping me get everything scheduled sooner since Dr. Gandsas moved up my surgery date.

I had my pre-op appt today and had a bit of a wait, but I was prepared for that. The staff is awesome. Paula is too organized. I'm amazed she can keep it all together. And she is one of the sweetest people. Illene is great with all the paper work. Karen is sooo helpful. Nancy squeezed me in real quick to get some supplements even though I didn't have an appt with her. The whole staff will do everything they can to make the process as easy as possible for you. Dr. Gandsas sat down with my mother and me to go over the details of the surgery and stuff, he was mostly reinterating what I already knew; but I appretated that he wanted to make sure I knew everything. Awesome surgeon and staff!!
