I had extreme gas pain, I was never offered gas ex, the way they administered my pain med was not as it was written, after given my apin med, I was not checked on to see if I had relief, thet did not tell me I had more meds for breakthrough pain therefor I suffered for hours waiting for next dose. Had my gas pain been treated , My general pain my not have been so severe, I am livid about what happened, many excuses where made, I think it is ignorance, poor nursing care. I f I had not made a big deal about this I wouln not have seen a nurse, One shift never enen looked at my abdomen, or incisions. In the am, I asked for the dilaudid, because the roxicet, was tried x2 with little relief, I was told, That I was not going home with an IV so I needed to ry roxicet again, so I did, but I said If thei does not help In 1 hour I want my MD called. ! hour later, I called to tell my nurse and she said she would call, I waited , No response, I called again and another nurse was covering and she said, You can't have pain med for another 2 1/2 hours, I was so upset, I demanded the dilauded, finally after seeing many different people with all sorts of excuses I got the medicatio. I am a self pay pt, I aonly stayed over to have my Pain managed well, and I was severly let down.
The staff was great and services were as well. The only problem I had was very noise in the hallway with staff talking loud as they helped the patient next to me or walked past the room and there was a loud door that would slam every once in a while. I only slept 1 hour during my one night stay (partially due to slight discomfort, but mostly due to noise).
To be honest I felt more like I was at a hotel then in a hospital. The room (and hallways) were very clean, and the entire staff from the doctors, nurses, priests, cleaning staff, food servers, etc. took time to greet me and ask how I was feeling. It was an extremely comfortable experience and I would highly recommend St. Vincent's Hospital to anyone in need of hospital services.
I have had to use St. Vincent's on many occasions and found that be it a major emergency or a less minor medical problem St. Vincent's care was more than EXCELLANT. In conversation about the hospital I always seem to say that St. Vincent's is my hospital, meaning that this hospital is my priority in medical care for both myself and my family.
