Dr. Wongsa was recommended to me by my PCP. If Dr Fillman trusts him thats good enough for me. I am scheduled for my first consult Oct 6 2003.

4/14/02 I met with Dr. Glorsky. I had gone to the initial meeting that they require and knew about the surgery. He reviewed my medical information with me and let me know that I was a very good candidate for this surgery. I was young and diabetic. I informed him that I had not been a willing participant in having surgery until my dr basically stated that I had no other alternative. My husband was not persuaded that easy. But after having a lengthy conversation with the Dr. he finally got it. Dr. Glorsky was very patient with me asked me if I had any questions he did not seem to be in a rush. I was scared being there and there was about 1 1/2 hour wait. But I could hear the other patients laughing with him so that made me feel comfortable. I do not have a date yet just received by referrals to other testing that I am required to do. It is a matter of months before I will actually have surgery.
He seems great.
The only other person that I had contact with was Peg. She seemed very nice and was very helpful.

August 26, 2003. Switched Dr. I consulted with Dr. Wongsa. Great decision for me. He is very straight forward a little intimidating. My husband and myself felt safer with Dr. Wongsa because he has been doing the procedure a longer time. Has a totally different personality than Dr. Glorsky. His staff is awesome. He spent time with us and made me feel comfortable with my decision and said that I would have to loose ten pounds before surgery. I would say he is very stern and expects the patients to give it their all. He made me feel like I was not alone with my struggle and said he would do his part to the best of his ability and would expect the same from me.

I've met with Dr. Wongsa twice. The first time was April 2002. He seemed very straight forward and to the point. He stressed that this surgery is a tool and not a cure all. He lets you know that you will have to do your part. He wanted me to loose a few pounds before surgery to prove I was committed.

After my insurance was denied, due to an iron clad exclusion, I had to wait until open enrollment and switch to Aetna HMO. Then I found out that Aetna has a 6 month Dr. supervised diet and exercise requirement.

After I completed all the requirments, I went back to Dr. Wongsa, 16 months later on August 15, 2003. He yelled at me and told me I was not a good candidate for surgery because I had gained 25 lbs since I first met him 16 months earlier. He very pointedly told me that he refused to do surgery on me, closed my file and got up to leave. I told him that I had gained and lost weight over the last 16 months and did not realize that that would be such a big problem. I just expected that once again he would tell me to loose a few lbs between then and the scheduled surgery. He told me that there are a lot of other doctors out there that would do the surgery on me, but he would not. I told him that all my research showed me that he was the best surgeon, with the highest success rate, so I really wanted him to do it. He thanked me for that and after a lot of heated discussion, he told me that if I loose 30 lbs in 2 months he would do surgery on me. He said it would be too dangerous to do surgery on me now, I might die. I agreed to his terms and am working hard to loose the 30 lbs. He put me on a low-fat protein and vegetable diet. NO CARBS ALLOWED.

These are just my own personal impressions of my own personal experience and I am making no statements about what other people may experience.

Dr. Wongsa has a stern facade which gives way to a man with a sense of humor and one who truly seems to enjoy what he does. Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't want to get him aggrevated with me again.
However, my bottom line feeling is that Dr. Wongsa is the best and most successful LAP RNY surgeon...but you have to do what he says or he will not be pleasant. I'll take surgical competence over bedside manner any day.

my first impression of my doctor is that he is straight to the point. he doesn't beat around the bush and tells you the possibilities of what could happen with this surgery. he told me i have to lose 10-15 lbs. before surgery. he seems to really care about his patients and his office staff is really nice.

I all ways try not to make first impressions of individual. We did seat and go over about 75 questions I had and he was veery favoral about them and had MY interst and not that of others. He spoke to me as an educated individual and DID not talk over my head. He was very caring and I did ask hard questions that people do not talk about or want to hear. I believe that found him off gaurd but he was veery honest in ALL answer even the hardest.I would describe the office staff as professional but very giving to all. There was even a staff member that had gone through the process herself and she was honest about what happened to her when she did not follow he guideness. I like the Least was not since of humor but that was ok, that is not him and I would not like eveeryone to be the same. Future individuals should have their research done and be on the last leg of strong commitment because Dr. Wongsa is a very succure individual and like he stated the success in in the individual not the surgery.Yes, there is an aftercare but it is like everything else it is only as good as you the individual makes it. Did he address the risk- yes, but I asked questions most people will not and he did not cut any corners. Overall - I am having it with him and not the other two doctors I visited. I believe they go hand in hand and it is like a preacherr with a bible. If I need to state one negitive thing it would be his direct and to the point but I would not have picked him for me. Thank You again Dr. Wongsa - Karen

I was told that Dr. Wongsa is to the point - no bull. They were exactly right. He want to know that you will do your part. He has asked me to lose 10-15 lbs. before surgery. He would not put me on the surgery schedule due to my thyroid levels being to high. I have been working with my primary physician and that has now been fixed and I'm on the surgery schedule for July 9th! His office staff has been wonderful to work with. They are soooooo helpful and caring.

Dr. Wongsa does tell you to eat nothing but lean meat and green leafy vegetables for before the surgery and 6 months after the surgery. I have not talked to anyone else whose Dr. has asked them to do that.

I will keep supplying information as it happens!

Dr.Wongsa is great . He lets you know the challanges ahead if you are suffering from a will power shortage. It will take a made up mind and will power to make the change to restricted quanity of food intake or the resulting damage is very serious.
He excells in surgical competence,

07/13 - Dr. Wongsa performed my surgery on Monday, 07/09. He came to see me before the surgery, and after I was in my room. He also came to see me every morning and sometimes two or three times a day. He is so caring; I felt in very good hands.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Wongsa on 04/20/01 and found him to be very pleasant. He reviewed all the risks of the surgery with me and answered all my questions. He has done over 140 surgeries and specializes in Laparoscopic surgery. I'm looking forward to a surgery date.

I was referred to Dr. Wongsa by a wonderful woman I met through my son's friends mother. She was great and she told me about Dr. Wongsa. My first impression of him was comfort. He made me feel comfortable and I got a good vibe. He is very straight forward and that is important to me. The office staff is absolutely the best. I have been working with Jackie and she is patient, understanding and helpful as well. I Love Her!

Dr. Wongsa is quick to tell you that there are risks involved, and what they are. He also makes you understand that this is a life changing procedure.

My first impression of Dr. Wongsa, was very good. He got straight to the point and did not bite his tongue. He told me what he wanted me to do and to do it.
My impression change when I really did not take him serious, and I though he was in it only for the money. But he proved me wrong.
Dr. Wongsa staff is so professional, it's like you have been knowing them for a while.
What i did not like least with him was. My second visit with him was not ok he was not please with my weight loss so he started fussing and got kind of loud. But he quite down. The future pt should know that he is strickley business do not play with him.

He address the risk of surgery real plain he did not hide anything. I rate him on a scale of 1-10, I rate him a 20. Both are better surgical competence and bedside manners.
