His bedside manor isnt much to speak of. Very abrupt and upfront but honest and knowledgeable.

Office staff great. 2 of them had surgery previously.

He has a strict aftercare diet- hi protein, no carbs.

Makes risks of surgery very clear.

He was a wonderful surgeon.

Surgical Competence by far outweighs bedside.

Dr. Wongsa was very hard on me the first time I visited him. I was only 18 years old and the first thing he said to me was "your too young for surgery" I was very discouraged after the first time I saw him... I did all my required test to have surgery, and then I was denied by insurance, because I did not have 6 months of recorded diet with my primary care physician and also a 5 year history of being obese. After 6 months of weighing in and finding 2 more years of proof of obesity, I went back to Dr. Wongsa and he was a little nicer than the last time, he told me before I could have surgery, I had to lose 15 pounds. Two weeks after I saw him I was approved to have surgery. The only reason I stayed with Dr. Wongsa even though he was very ugly to me, was because he was a highly recommended surgeon. He is good at what he does on the surgery table. He may make you mad or even make you cry with his bedside manners, but he is an awesome surgeon.

I have the highest respect for Dr. Wongsa. My first impression was he was tough but cares about his patients and that has never changed. His office staff is wonderful and helped me every step of the way. He can be very blunt but that's why I chose him. I needed all the help I could get and this was my very last chance to lose my weight and I didn't need a friend I needed someone to guide me... and he did. He makes sure you stay on a strict diet before and after surgery and it works. Dr. Wongsa was very clear about the risk. I would give him a 10. His surgical competence is much better than bedside manner but I needed a surgeon not a nurse I had plenty of great nurses. If you want the best surgeon in Houston I thing Wongsa is it. If you can't take someone being hard on you when you aren't doing what he tells you to do then you need to pick someone else. He never told me anything that was not true.

I researched this surgery for about a year before stepping up to the proverbial plate. A few friends from work used Dr. Wongsa. I got his number and set up an appointment. My first impression was good. Quick appointment. Wasnt sure if it went quick because I was excited or just that it went quick because I didnt ask a bunch of questions. The office staff was great, great bunch of girls. Dr. Wongsa was great as well. I had an overall great experience with the whole thing. I did have an experience at one time with the doctor telling me I might not be successful. I proved him wrong of course. hehehe.

I felt that maybe they should have informed me a bit better on what to eat and what not to eat when I got out of the hospital, but support groups helped out with that.

I can say I was satisfied at my one year check up when the doctor said he was wrong about me being successful and even more satisfied at my 2 year check up when he added that not all patients lose more weight after their first year and that he was specifically proud of me.

Dr. Wongsa is a no nonsense doctor. Hes not whimpy by far. He will let ya know if you need letting know. I say a big "High Five" for Dr. Wongsa!!!
I went from 328 lbs the day of surgery to a present weight of 145lbs.

My first impression, was strict, to the point and honest. After I left his office i felt like he didn't even want to do the surgery because i didn't weigh enough. But with my medical problems i still felt that there was a possibility of approval from the insurance company. I have only met with him once, so I don't have any new feelings as of yet. The office staff was excellent, they were very helpful and a delight to talk with. Future patients...be ready for the truth...he's blunt and to the point. No messing around with this guy. He addressed the risks of surgery, well, how do i say it...pretty bluntly? haha. Basically he told me that I could die. There's always that chance with any kind of surgery and I already knew this and expected it. I believe now that he was testing me to see if I was serious about going through with this. I cannot give a rating of Dr. Wongsa at this time with only meeting with him once.

I thought I had done my research pretty good on Dr. Wongsa, but I wasn't prepared for how tough he is! He is serious about this surgery and wants to make sure you are too. I have to lose 25 pounds before my surgery will be scheduled. I was surprised at that at first but then I started thinking about it and it all makes sense. You have to start the discipline process now so you will have an easier time adjusting after the surgery. The staff is wonderful, helpful, sensitive and caring. I would recommend Dr. Wongsa to everyone considering bariatric surgery. Actually I do recommend alot of patients to him, I am the referral coordinator for a family practice doctor and every patient inquiring about bariatric surgery gets sent to him for evaluation. He is the best there is.

I hae met Dr waongsa and he is a straight shooter which is what I wanted because i am a straight shooter to and I dont want it to be sugar coated just let me know what i need to do and keep doing and he did just that.

Dr. Wongsa was very informative and stern! He is very strict about you following the program but that is because he wants yoiu to see the results you have sacrificed for! If he even detects that your not ready to do what it takes he will not perform the surgery. I feel very comfortable with him and also confident in his success rate.

My cousin went about a month ahead of me. She recommended Dr. Wongsa. I liked him very much. As I went to the hospital for pre-op prep, the nurses asked who was doing my surgery, when I told them, they even said "good". When the nurses like him I felt like I had made the right choice.

My impression did not change. I still am happy with Dr. Wongsa.

His staff was professional and very helpful.

They should know that he was very sucessful with my surgery and that I am happy.

He wanted me to come back periodically, but I live 180 miles from Houston so I only went back once.

He told me the risks, I decided it was riskier to stay fat. I was diabetic and I haven't had any insulin or pills since my surgery over two years ago.

Both were great!
