I really like Dr. Wongsa. I was referred to him by a friend. He is a nice Doc. but he is very strict! But that is what makes him a good surgeon & have the success rate that he has. His office and staff are the best, I could not ask for anything better. I totally trusted him for the surgery and would not have choosen any one else. His bedside manner is great & he re-stated how important that the diet of lean meats and leafy green veggies & nothing sweet really is. From my first consultation he made the risks clearly aware of the surgery. If he tells you need to lose a certain amount of weight prior to surgery you better do it, and not gain a pound before surgery or it will be cancelled. If I had to do it all over again I would use Dr. Wongsa without any hesitation & I recommend him to anyone considering the surgery. This is just my personal view of my surgeon, however it is your responsibility to make your own educated descisions in choosing what is right for you.
After seeing Dr. Wongsa I was given a list of things that I had to do before the surgery.
I was told that these are things that Blue Cross requires: 1. Psychiatric Evaluation
2. Nutritional Consultation
3. 6 - 12 months of weight loss attempts under Dr. supervision within the last year.
I was also told to get Lab Tests, Chest x-ray, EKG, Upper GI and Ultrasound of Gallbladder.
I received a bill from Dr. Wongsa's office and was told to disregard it because they just bill Blue Cross and Medicare at the same time even though they know that Blue Cross has to be billed after Medicare pays to show what they paid.
The next month I received another bill from Dr. Wongsa's office. I called and was told that Blue Cross sent them a letter and that they are not going to pay for any more surgeries for weight loss.
I asked about Medicare? I was told that a lot of their patients are getting stuck paying the total bill because Medicare is not paying now even if the diagnosis is diabetes.
I am in the process of locating another surgeon.
I think Dr. Wongsa is great, but I don't think his office staff would even try to get my insurance companies to pay.
When I first went in to see Dr. Wongsa, I was somewhat intimidated, because I knew he would be very serious about the selection of his patients. You must meet certain criteria to have this surgery. After meeting him, I knew that I had made a good choice, because this was going to be a surgeon who knew what he was doing. The office staff was incredibly friendly, and very helpful in getting my surgery approved. Jackie is an incredible support system as she is Dr. Wongsa's right hand woman! I strongly suggest Dr. Wongsa as a bariatric surgeon. He is wonderful. I had very little discomfort after surgery, and healed well. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being a top rated doctor. He is a 9+!!!
Thank you so much Dr. Wongsa for being such a wonderful surgeon and accepting me as a candidate for surgery. You truly changed my life!
very nice, but VERY strict, I dont mind his strickness, because he has our best interest at heart, but it can be intimidating, The staff is awesome have never dealt with better staff. I like this doc very much, he really does care.Doesnt really emphasize to much on aftercare, and he is upfront about the risks of the surg, does not beat around the bush.I rate him a 9, because noone is perfect, but he is truely wonderful, his competence is great and so is his bedside manner. He did visit me everyday, I did not lose as much weight as others, but that is fine with me, I dont have to much bypassed, but I also dont have as much deficiences. I am very happy with the outcome.
My first impression of Dr. Wongsa was that he was very stern. After talking with him or listening to him for awhile I beleive that he is a very serious man about his job. There is no guessing about where he stands with this wls. His office staff was very cordial and informative when I asked questions. I had heard about Jackie before going and she proved to be as great as I was told. I will update after surgery to tell what I think about aftercare and the actual surgery.
Okay surgery is over and I feel great and am very happy with the aftercare and the actual surgery performed by Dr. Wongsa and his staff of people. Yes there is a structured aftercare program.
I would rate him with a overall 10! While he was stern in the begining he lighted up and made me feel very secure.
I met Dr. Wongsa for the first time on May 4, 2005. He is very serious about the procedure and making sure I realize how important it is to follow all of his directions after the surgery. I am particulary concerned about his after care program because I was told that I could only eat lean meat and green leafy vegatables for the first 3 or 6 months. I don't know if I can do that. I am supposed to be doing this before the surgery but after 3 days I feel like I want to eat everything in sight. I like the fact that he is straight forward and demanding. He does not shy away from answering any questions I have. His staff is very nice, comforting and helpful.
My first impresion of Dr Wongsa was that he was very sure of himself. That is not to say that he was cocky, but that he told me that his complication rate was next to zero. After hearing his rules,i can see why. If you follow his instructions, you should have none or very few complications.
Dr. Wongsa' office staff is excelent. They are always very helpful, and willing to take the time to answer your questions. Jackie is the greatest, she is the one I've worked with the most. I have only briefly met Dee,she has been very nice too.
So far the least thing I liked about Dr Wongsa is his apparent lack of flexibility with food choices, and that is the main thing i think future patients should know.
Dr. Wongsa was referred to me by a friend who had used him in the pass. He is a very serious and to the point doctor. He sets you up for success by explaining how serious the surgery is and how important it is to follow the guidelines to make sure you do well. He was great to my family members at the hospital and was very detailed about what happened and when. Overall I would rate Dr. Wongsa a 10+, I could not have felt more comfortable in his hands.
