Roy Berkowitz Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I really enjoyed Dr. Berkowitz, he is quite good natured and that is very important to me.I really only met him once and that was on the consult date and i will next see him on New Years Eve Day.[My pre-op apt.] The staff really made me feel comfortable and confident in my journey.Dr. B. was straight forward about everything I think I know what to expect, but, I will keep you posted.Good Luck to everyone who is about to take the leap,,PEACE to all!!!!!Janelle....

When I first saw Dr. Berkowitz, it was for the initial consultation. He briskly walked into the room with a smile on his face and exuding a
warmth and confidence that immediately put me at ease. I had prepared myself by researching as many "pros" & "cons" about the proposed OPEN RNY
as I could find then preparing a LONG list of questions that I was brilliantly going to "stump" him with. Wow! Was I pleased
to discover that Dr. Berkowitz answered EVERY SINGLE QUESTION I had AND THEN SOME! He did not paint a "rose-colored" picture. He was very forthright
about the risks, the post-op care, etc.

On the Pre-OP side of this, all I know is first impressions: the office was clean, not frilly, the chairs FIT :), the staff treated me with kindness, competence and with RESPECT.

12/05/01 3 month check up... okay so what can I say? Berk is the best... I had some blood clot issues in my history, I threw some concerns his way... he answered with such knowledge - he was a vascular surgeon before... the boy knows his stuff! He listens, he doesn't judge, he's a great cheerleader and I believe he really takes pleasure in seeing results from his "work" and our accomplishments... He's a god-send... by the way... let not this 100% positive review be "suspect"..."Berk" has been an instrument of permanent change in my life, a change that has SAVED my life, I have nothing negative to say!

Post-op the nurses were killers! They were tough and got my tail out of bed! I'm so grateful! The respiratory therapist chewed me out - she said if I got pneumonia that SHE was not doing her job! I love that! Boy did I breathe! I appreciate their caring concern and feel like I had the best care...

BTC has the most comprehensive after care program I could have imagined... a 3 ring binder that is filled with data, suggestions, guidelines, recipes and the like. At each level of healing diet, I knew exactly what I could & couldnt have... I'm really pleased to have chosen such a competent facility...

I just loved my surgeon. He was very handsome and so nice. The Staff was great and I was very happy with my procedure and Although I was urged to attend the support groups, I have been unable to attend them due to scheduling problems and babysitter dilemmas. I was one that had complications after because of my own actions.
I will rate DR.B a ten on his overall professional ability.

I WAS GREATLY IMPRESSED.HE WAS CARING,PUT ME AT EASE IMMEDIATELY,LOOKED ME STRAIGHT IN THE EYE AND HAS A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR! THE STAFF WAS VERY CARING AND HELPFUL. THEY MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS IMPORTANT. THE OFFICE WAS VERY CLEAN WITH OVERSIZE CHAIRS,SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO WEDGE MYSELF IN.I AM SO EXCITED!!I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE THINKING ABOUT HAVING THIS SURGERY TO GO SEE DR. BERKOWITZ.HE TOOK HIS TIME AND EXPLAINED THE WHOLE PROCEDURE. FROM THE TIME THAT YOU ENTER THE HOSPITAL, THE ACTUAL SURGERY AND THE AFTER CARE. HE ALSO EXPLAINED THE RISKS. ON A SCALE FROM 1--10 I WOULD GIVE HIM A 9!!!

well, my first impression of dr berkowitz is that he is very knowledgalbe in his field. he was very thorough in his explaniation of the surgery to my husband and myself. he answered all the questions we had before we got a chance to ask them. he does not pull any punches as my mother would say. i was very impressed with him. he really stressed the aftercare . a couple of times so i would say it must be important. the staff was very helpful. and so nice it was pleasure it be around them. they all seem to be very supportive. i was pleased at btc so far. i will keep you informed. melony
11/14/01 - well i am 14 days post op and i have to tell you that i received the absolute best care at btc. and dr berkowitz is a craftsman. my incision really looks really good. i also got a chance to meet dr boe/ schlessinger while i was there- them seem to be good dr's also.

Dr. Berkowitz was very informative and professional. I liked his sense of humor. He answered all of my questions and he told me that he thought that I would be a good candidate for the surgery. He discussed the pros and cons for having the surgery. He also told me that I would never be able to eat sweets or anything fried the rest of my life. That was such a relief to me because I binge on sweets. I am glad that I will have a tool to help me. The only thing that I did not like about Bariatric Treatment Center is that I was not greeted when I came into the waiting area and my appointment was for 2:00pm and I was not seen until 3:30pm. Otherwise, my impression of the doctor and facility was positive.

I thought Dr. Berkowitz was very nice - friendly, helpful, and he had a sense of humor. I feel very confident in his abilities.

My first impression of Dr. B. was that he was very knowledgable. He totally understood the procedure and was able to explain it to me in layman's terms, but also respected my intelligence when I asked more specific questions. I did not meet with him between my initial consultation and the week prior to surgery. He's not real "chatty", not an outgoing gregarious type, but then, he's a surgeon and not a G.P., so him being a little quiet is understandable. I mean the majority of time he's with patients, they are asleep. He was quite personable during my 2 week follow-up, praising my accomplishments (32 pounds!) and recovery.

Dr. B. is affiliated with Bariatric Treatment Center, and they have an extensive aftercare program, including monthly support groups in several communities, a web site, and they encourage patients to call with questions. The office staff is friendly and helpful.

I would definately have Dr. B. as my surgeon again. Since I have had no complications, not one problem, I would have to say his surgical competence is excellent. I would have liked his bedside manner to be a little more probative during my hospital stay, since I had never been in the hospital before. There were some things going on during my stay that he probably could have helped with, had he known. I assumed the nurses were informing him, but that was not the case

I am very impressed with Dr. Berkowitz
I will have my surgery on October 2.
I feel the staff moves a little slow in
scheduling, but I know they are very busy.
