First consult went well. Seems like a nice person. I am still considering Dr. Kane. Jenny who works for Dr. Kane is very efficient and helpful. The BTC at Belvidere seems to sway my decision they were very good with me so far. The only thing about BTC the doctor wants me to have a $500 pscyh evailuation and see a lung specialist, and a heart specialist. I would bet they will cost a pretty penny. I have hired a lawyer because my insurance won't pay because of an exclution denying WLS of any kind. Maybe once I get approved the insurance should pay for the pscyh evail and heart and lung doctors. I am just waiting

Very caring surgeon . The whole BTC staff in Belvedere , IL made me very comfortable with my decision to have surgery .

Aftercare is very important to the BTC staff . You are given papers describing the whole aftercare procedure .

Risks were discussed .

Had great surgical knowledge and bedside manner .

Only met at my consultation appointment and he found him to be very personable and he answered any questions we had. Staff to was very pleasant to deal with. Especially liked the fact that the only surgery's done at this hospital is for weight loss. In knowing this, I feel they are specialized and have right equipment as operating on an obese person can be really tricky per other doctors I have inquired to. Looking forward to having surgery and adjusting to a new way of life and losing my weight and having the ability to keep it off. Prepared for big change of lifestyle.

My Doctor was very nice and informative at
the first meeting. He told me everything
that they were going to do and what to expect
after. The office staff was very helpful with
my questions. They had someone who had the
surgery talk to you at the initial consult.
After surgery the staff was very nice and
helpful even after I went home. Since I have
gone to the support meetings every month. It
helps to talk to the other people about
things or maybe just answer someone elses
question.

So far I am O.K. with him. He was very supportive at my initial consult and no complaints post op. The people on the phone were excellent. They were very supportive, espically the insurance approval dept.
I was not impressed with post op support. I did drive almost 3 hours away to have the surgery and the closest support group they have is over 2 hours away. I think if they took the initative and got people together in the different areas, there would be enough to form a support group closer to me.
I was told that I did not have to return for my 6 or 9 month check up if I didn't want to, but to make sure I had my lab work. I guess I have mixed feelings about that. I would like some post op feedback, but that drive in the middle of winter just to get weighed and my B/P taken was not worth it.

He was very caring and understanding. He seemed to have all the time in the world for me. He explained things in detail. Fully explained all the risks. In pre op I had a panic attack and was not going to go through with the surgery. He entered the room to speak with me, he said I am not going to tell you to have the surgery it is up to you and you only. It toke only those few words to understand that I had reached a point of me needing to stand up for my self and decided what I wanted. I wanted to have a life a real life, an active life. So I went through with it. After surgery he would come and do his rounds. He never seemed rushed, would sit next to me and always asked if I had any questions or concerns.

My first impression was that he was rather cold and rehearsed.

During and since the surgery I have found him easy to talk with and personable

Office staff is friendly and hurried.

I disliked his cold presentation during my intake

he fully addressed the risks.

He does return phone calls if you need to reach him after surgery.

All in all he has been great.

I have seen both Dr. Berkowitz and Dr. Schellisger

my first impression of Dr. Berkowitz was
very good. He took about an hour to explain
the surgery and let me ask as many queations I wanted. He made me feel at ease and the staff
was very friendly. I only met him once but
I spent alot of time with some of the nurses
and they were great. Dr. Berkowitz was patient and friendly. I will let you know what I think of him after my surgery.
