Roy Berkowitz Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I met with Dr. Berkowitz on Saturday, September 6th. He was a very warm and kind person who just matter-of-factly told me what the surgery was and how it would be performed. He answered all of my questions with no problems.

He told me what to expect and how long my stay would be as well as the aftercare program.

The entire staff at the Bariatric Center was very nice and very helpful.

I liked Dr. Berkowitz, he is lacking some personality. But it is not personality that I look for in a surgeon, but someone who can perform the surgery well and knows their stuff. Also, I felt like I was in a rehearsed script, and not one that was personalized to me. But I guess after years of meeting with patients it is probably the same speel over and over again. However, if you do the same thing over and over again, that makes me feel comfortable knowing that I have a verteran performing the surgery and not a rookie.

My consultation was today!! Dr.Berkowitz was
very wonderful. He made me feel like he really cares.He was straight forward about the risks. He wanted to make sure that he answered my questions completly. Everyone was
friendly at BTC. The patient counselor that
came in to tell me about her expierience was
very rehearsed and not really friendly. That was my only negative expierience there.
Overall it was a pretty informative appointment. I was very impressed with the Dr. This is only my expierience I am not making any statements about what others may expierience.

Dr. Berkowitz was a very competent surgeon. He explained the procedure very throughly to my husband and I.

Before the actual surgery he again came into my room and explained the risks involved. I appreciated his concern and his willingness to let me know the risks involved.

He is a very laid back man who takes his time with you.

I would highly recommend this doctor if you are looking for one. In fact I drove 9 hours just to have him as my doctor.

Dr. Berkowitz has a great follow up aftercare program.

Dr. Berkowitz from the very first beginning seem to be a well understanding man who just liked to help others. He is somehwat quiet but overall a very nice man.
My impression about him hasn't changed in fact i respect him more since he did my surgery and he gives a wonderful scar!!!
His office staff is also very friendly they make u feel very welcome and they answer any questions you may have.

I think all people who go see Dr. Berkowitz should go in there with an open mind and any questions u have don't hesitate to ask him. He will be very starightforward and honest about everything.
He is very starightforward about after care he says he will do a good surgery for you but you are the one to do two things for him and that is breathe and get well soon. It's not hard it just takes work. He addressed aftercare but not to much its just changing your lifestyle to what it wasn't before. There are risks in every surgery but if u don't take them you may not live to see your kids grow up . I would rate Dr. Berkowitz on a scale of 1-10 a 10 he is a caring,compassionate and understanding man and he will help you any way he can but you must also do your part. Both are of great importance can't have one without the other.

Dr Berkowitz was very nice. I was a little put off by his advanced age, but he is truly a professional and I felt really comfortable with him!

My consultation was what I expected. The surgery was explained to me in detail but in terms that anyone could understand. I asked a few questions and they were answered completely. Dr. Berkowitz was matter of fact and to the point about risks and success which I appreciated and knew beforehand.

I go by a physicians record. I want the one with most experience and great track record. I don't expect much personality from a doctor but will take it if I get it.

Dr. Berkowitz and his staff have the procedure down pat and simply use their knowledge to help others.

My surgery was performed by Dr. Berkowitz at the Bariatric Center in Belevider, IL. Dr. Berkowitz is an excellent surgeon, but his bedside manner is horrible. He did explain the surgery very well during my preop visits and answer all my questions. Then at my first visit postop he was very short and did not take the time to talk with my husband and I about our concerns so I switched to Dr. Vaughn who has been wonderful.
Dr. Vaughn is a surgeon out of the same center. Dr. Vaughn was the surgeon on call the weekend I was in the hospital and he was very understanding, and nice. He took the time to talk with my family and me, and answer all our questions. I have seen Dr. Vaughn for 3 visits now and I am glad I switched. In my first consultation with Dr. Roy Berkowitz, he appeared to be genuine and sensitive. He answered my questions thoroughly and patiently. He gave my husband and I a clear idea of what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. I feel comfortable with him as my surgeon.

Well Dr. Berkowitz seemed very nice but he wasn't around for my recovery. He is in the reserves. Well if duty calls, I can't hold it against him. But Everytime in my life that I have had surgury my surgeon has ended up being the on call surgeon. It just bothered me a little.
